Prince William could’ve been the king of the club.
The 44-year-old royal, who joined the Oct. 23 episode of “The Graham Norton Show,” opened up about how he once aspired to be a DJ in his younger years. And he even had a stage name.
“I went through a phase where I wanted to be a DJ, which didn’t go very well,” the prince said, laughing. “And I came up with a name. It was called DJ Xara with an X. It wasn’t good.”
William — who joined the longtime British talk show alongside fellow guests Cate Blanchett, Hannah Waddingham and Robert Irwin — acknowledged that as a child, he did, in fact, fantasize about going into a non-royal profession.
William told host Graham Norton that at one point, he thought about perhaps becoming a police officer.
“Being a policeman, I thought was quite cool,” William said.
Then came the DJ phase, William explained. Unfortunately, the Prince of Wales never got to play any gigs. When asked if he ever DJ’d any school parties, the prince gave an honest answer.
“No, I didn’t,” William said, smiling. “I never got that good.”
Prince William, the heir apparent to the British throne, may not be in the DJ booth these days, but he appears to be pretty busy, working on charitable projects and carrying out his official royal duties. Some of his main causes include the environment, homelessness and the armed forces.

He does, of course, have down time, which he fills with some good ‘ol reality TV. Prince William told Norton that he and his children are big fans of “The Celebrity Traitors,” hosted by broadcaster Claudia Winkleman.
“I love it. The family love it,” he said of the show. “Charlotte and Louis are obsessed with it. It’s really good telly.”
