The 88 performs the kind of music that won’t allow your foot to quit tapping to the beat. Their high energetic performances and contagiously catchy power pop songs are starting to garner a huge following for the band. The band is in the structure of a four-piece and uses the typical instruments of a rock quartet, ranging from guitar, bass, piano, and drums, but their stripped down approach to performance doesn’t mean these guys don’t know how to utilize what they have to create a pop song that will be left ringing in your head for days. They have songs with much energy and force, as well as songs with great sing-along type qualities, which incite the audience to join in with the performance.
The 88 is a band that has a tight musical connection with one another. They are professionals at their craft, playing with adept precision, never playing sloppy, and never missing a beat. Their harmonies are always spot on, and vocalist Keith Slettedahl is masterful at maintaining stability in his voice while fluctuating between difficult vocal ranges. The 88 are such tight performers that even Ray Davies from the Kinks asked them to be his backing band on his 2011 tour. They have also had the opportunity to open for such talented bands as The Smashing Pumpkins and The Flaming Lips. Keith Slettedahl also has an engaging personality on stage, being able to keep the audience entertained with his banter throughout the night. The 88 is gradually creating a bigger presence in the music industry each year. They have already gained notoriety from composing the theme songs on the shows, Community and Free Ride, as well as making a guest appearance on the sitcom, How I Met Your Mother. The 88 has accomplished many things since their formation and the only direction they seem to be going is up.
