Kubrick's final film is unique in his oeuvre for concluding on a note of apparent affirmation.

This is finally a film that is better at mood than substance, that has its strongest hold on you when it's making the least amount of sense.

It's empty of ideas, which is fine, but it's also empty of heat.

…viewed in 2026, Eyes Wide Shut is Kubrick’s masterpiece, an accusation of the society he saw around him, accused here of being corrupt, depraved and built around the repression, exploitation and control of women….

Kubrick fans, who understand this is his analysis of jealousy, that he took decades to finally make, dying when it was done, considering it his masterpiece...you’ll get it.

Even with its superb sense of unease and the idea that it’s steadily crafting a galvanizing conspiracy, it wanders off on tangents.

Genuinely very interesting film. Had a hard time orienting myself for the first 20 minutes, but it locked me in. Kubrick is a very particular filmmaker and not to everyone's taste. This work is about a man with presumptions around marriage, sex, sexuality, and gender who's cut down at the knees by a revelation from his wife, causing a spiraling journey through one night across New York. I forget sometimes how masterful Kubrick is at creating sequences with such gravity and precision that you're totally sucked in and along for the ride.

No matter the debate over just how complete it is or what it’s trying to say, Eyes Wide Shut remains a remarkable achievement in a filmography stacked with them. It perfectly encapsulates the many sides and moods of Stanley Kubrick, flitting with dreamlike sensibilities, dark humor, stark cinematography and thematic ambiguity

It was a pretty strange movie with some over the top eroticism. It's so different from any other Kubrick film I've seen also one of the worst in my estimate.
