An order summary page renders in 40 milliseconds on your laptop. In production, it takes eleven seconds. Same code. Clean review. Green tests. And the page still crawls. The cause hides behind property access that looks like plain C#: the N+1 query problem. One query loads the parent rows, then another for each subsequent row. Load 200 orders, and you have run 201 queries. Most articles stop at lazy loading. It arrives in four shapes, and three of them are the ones people first reach for: the lazy loading loop, the explicit query loop, and the serializer storm. My new post for ZZZ Projects works through all four and the permanent fixes in EF Core 10: count your queries and make lazy loads throw, Include and split queries, projections that erase the defect, and the parameter ceiling that makes a Contains rewrite throw in production at 5,000 keys.
