I had the privilege of being this year's student keynote speaker at the UF Honors Mini Conference for incoming lateral and transfer students. The Honors Program has played such an important role in my time at UF, so I always welcome the opportunity to reflect on its impact. Thank you to Dr. TehQuin Forbes for the opportunity to help other students make the most of their time in Honors. And thank you to Yair Roman Gonzalez for taking these pictures. In my speech, I discussed a philosophy I called doctrina gratia doctrinae: learning for the sake of learning. The doctrina philosophy argues that learning does not always have to be justified by practical reasons. Rather, it can have value simply because it brings us enjoyment or a better understanding of the world around us. My journey in college has thus far been guided by this philosophy, and I look forward to continuing my time as an Honors student living with the same passion for learning.

Tomorrow is the first day of classes at the University of Florida but for some of us, the academic year started on Saturday. This summer, I was invited by the University of Florida Honors Program to design and facilitate a pre-semester course-based camp to take place immediately before the start of the fall semester. I decided to create a jam-packed lineup that introduced these cream-of-the-crop students to our university's AI initiative while also giving them hands-on experience in addition to academic credit. This course intentionally took place mostly outside of the classroom because I truly and wholly believe that experience is the best teacher. Since Saturday, we have heard from faculty like Fatimah Tuggar from UF College of the Arts and industry partners at Sandvik, Evergen, and Vobile on how AI is changing the way we learn, work, and live. In turn, the students have collaborated on research-based generative AI art projects, immersed themselves in the AI-integrated workplace through career treks, and completed AI-powered mock interviews with Quinncia provided by the UF Career Connections Center. The world will look much different from today when the Class of 2030 graduates but if these students are any indication of what lies ahead, I am confident that we will be in good hands. Go Gators! #AIatUF #AI #ExperientialLearning

Last week, the Honors Program had the pleasure of celebrating The Davis UWC Scholars Program Class of 2026 at a reception honoring their achievements and reflecting on the ways they transformed campus and the broader community. This program supports undergraduates from all over the world, encouraging cross-cultural communication among the entire student body. Many thanks to Dr. Marta Wayne, Dean of the UF International Center Global Gators, for joining us and for your support of all international students. Your presence helped make the celebration even more meaningful. Congratulations to our graduates—we are so proud of you and excited to see what comes next!

It was a pleasure to welcome the University of Florida's Interim President Donald Landry to the Honors Village earlier this month for dinner and conversation with the Honors Program's Stamps Scholars and John V. Lombardi Scholars. This engaging meeting highlighted the interdisciplinary nature of the Preeminent Scholar Cohort and allowed scholars to share their interests and ideas with Dr. Landry while gaining his insight on AI, professional networking, and UF's future.
