  • 24 October is #UNDay. As the UN specialized agency for international civil aviation, ICAO is proud to work alongside the UN system and Member States to advance safe skies and sustainable air transport for all. ✈️

  • Ahead of tomorrow's #UNDay, ICAO joined United Nations organizations in Montréal, our host city, to showcase how multilateral cooperation translates into tangible results for people and communities worldwide. At a multi-agency panel at Montréal International, ICAO Director of the Legal Affairs and External Relations Bureau Michael G. highlighted what effective multilateralism looks like in practice: bringing 193 Member States together to develop international aviation standards and supporting every State in implementing them effectively. The day's programme also included a welcome reception hosted by UN-Habitat Canada, where ICAO Director of the Administration Bureau Arun Mishra delivered opening remarks, bringing together representatives of government, international organizations, and civil society. The day's message was clear: turning global commitments into meaningful results depends on sustained cooperation and collective action. 🤝

  • Aviation security depends on people who can anticipate emerging threats, adapt to changing risks and turn shared priorities into action. Throughout #ICAOSecurityWeek in Astana, Kazakhstan, discussions explored how States, international organizations and industry can strengthen security systems through skilled professionals, a strong security culture and sustained international cooperation. The final day brought these themes together, with a focus on developing the next generation of aviation security professionals and advancing preparations for the Third High-level Conference on Aviation Security (HLCAS/3). The challenge ahead is to translate these priorities into effective implementation, ensuring that global aviation security continues to evolve alongside an increasingly complex threat environment. Thank you to hosts in Astana and all participants for contributing to the discussions and helping shape the priorities ahead.

  • What if aviation security could identify a threat before it becomes an incident? As air cargo supply chains become more interconnected, aviation systems increasingly rely on digital networks, and security conditions in conflict zones change rapidly, anticipating risks is essential to protecting international civil aviation. On Day 2 of Aviation Security Week in Kazakhstan, discussions focused on how to strengthen security across these evolving challenges. ✈️ Air cargo and mail security: Adapting security arrangements to interconnected supply chains through technology, AI, automated detection, risk-based oversight and secure information exchange. ✈️ Cybersecurity: Strengthening coordination among regulators, airports, airlines, air navigation providers and cyber-response communities as aviation systems become more interconnected. ✈️ Conflict zones: Ensuring timely threat information, sound risk assessment and cooperation between States and industry as operating environments change rapidly. Across all three areas, a common priority emerged: moving beyond reacting to changes in the risk environment towards stronger risk awareness and more anticipatory decision-making. Technology is part of the answer, but effective implementation, people and cooperation are equally essential. Sustaining aviation security modernization also means developing the skilled workforce needed to support an evolving security system. Learn more about #ICAOSecurityWeek 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gwVYannu

  • Building a strong future for aviation means investing in the next generation today, creating opportunities for young people to develop their skills, discover their potential and build fulfilling careers in the sector. As aviation continues to evolve, we need young people bringing fresh perspectives and helping address the challenges ahead. This means opening doors across all areas of aviation, from technical and operational roles to communications, legal affairs, sustainability and beyond. At ICAO, internship opportunities allow young professionals to gain hands-on experience in an international environment, develop valuable skills and contribute to the work that supports the global aviation system, while taking meaningful steps towards their future careers. The application deadline is fast approaching for a Digital Marketing and Communications Internship at our Headquarters. • When an aircraft accident occurs, how do we support the people and families whose lives are affected? Effective assistance depends on clear communication, coordinated action and practical support, backed by strong frameworks and cooperation. Strengthening regional cooperation and preparedness helps States put these measures into practice, so victims and their families can receive the support they need when it matters most. That is why ICAO, with the support of the Government of Spain, brought together State representatives, industry stakeholders and family associations from the North American, Central American and Caribbean region this week for the Seminar on Assistance to Aircraft Accident Victims and Their Families at the ICAO North American, Central American and Caribbean Regional Office. Through the exchange of knowledge and best practices, participants explored State responsibilities, crisis communication and operational response, while working through practical challenges using real-world examples and scenario-based exercises. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eXHk4wt3

Accessible air transport is no longer just an aspiration. It is becoming a global priority. International Civil Aviation Organization / IATA / ACI World - Airports Council International jointly hosted the 2nd Global Accessibility Symposium at ICAO's headquarters in Montréal, Canada, on 14-15 October 2026. Bringing together regulators, airlines, airports, international organizations, manufacturers, and representatives of persons with disabilities, the event focused on working together on achieving the shared goal: making air travel more accessible, inclusive, and seamless for everyone. A clear message emerged throughout the Symposium: although significant progress is being made, accessibility is something no single stakeholder can achieve alone. Passengers experience one continuous journey, so making it accessible calls for effective coordination across the entire aviation ecosystem. International collaboration, consistent regulations, practical implementation, and meaningful engagement with disability communities all remain essential to success. Discussions highlighted the growing global momentum behind accessibility, with an increasing focus on turning policy commitments into action, strengthening guidance materials, sharing best practices, and embedding accessibility in the future of aviation—including digital transformation and seamless travel initiatives. As accessibility becomes an increasingly important part of aviation's social sustainability and operational agendas, IATA remains committed to working with ICAO, ACI, governments, industry partners, and disability advocates to advance practical, globally aligned, and outcome-focused approaches that improve the travel experience for passengers with disabilities and reduced mobility. Together, we can help make accessible air transport the global standard, not the exception. Thank you to everyone who participated. • For many travellers, aviation security is most visible at the airport checkpoint. But an effective aviation security system extends far beyond that. It depends on effective oversight, skilled personnel, a strong security culture and coordination across the aviation community, all while adapting to evolving threats. These priorities are at the heart of ICAO Security Week 2026, which opened today in Astana, Kazakhstan, with remarks by ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar. Under the theme "Secure Skies in a Complex World: Advancing Security in Aviation for All," the event brings together States, international organizations, industry leaders and aviation security experts to address current and emerging challenges and strengthen global aviation security and resilience through international cooperation. Learn more about #ICAOSecurityWeek: https://lnkd.in/gwVYannu Sessions from the event will be available on ICAO TV.

  • Behind every safe and orderly flight is a network of professionals helping aircraft move safely through our skies. ✈️ On the International Day of the Air Traffic Controller, ICAO recognizes the professionals whose expertise, precision and coordination are essential to the safety and efficiency of international civil aviation. Working around the clock, air traffic controllers help manage the flow of aircraft, maintain safe separation and respond to changing conditions, contributing to the reliable movement of people and goods around the world. ICAO also values the expertise of the global air traffic control community, including the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers' Associations (IFATCA), in advancing international standards and strengthening the global aviation system. Do you know an #ATCO? Join us in the comments below this #ATCDay to thank air traffic controllers for their dedication and service! ✈️
