IU trained. Community trusted.
HOOSIERS HEALING HOOSIERS
Indiana University is building a healthier Indiana by bringing expertise and care closer to the people who need it. From strengthening emergency care in rural hospitals to expanding preventive services in trusted community spaces, IU is helping close gaps in access, improve health outcomes, and build stronger, healthier communities across the state.
Supporting rural areas
Improving access to healthcare
Indiana University is helping ensure mothers and children in rural Indiana have access to high-quality emergency care. Through a new partnership with the Indiana Department of Health, the IU School of Medicine is helping rural emergency departments strengthen obstetric and pediatric care with specialized training, updated equipment, and proven standards. By bringing IU’s statewide clinical expertise to communities across Indiana, the initiative is helping close critical gaps in care and improve outcomes for Hoosier families.
Meeting people where they are
Care beyond the clinic
Indiana University is helping make preventive healthcare more accessible by bringing it into public spaces across Indianapolis. Through a partnership with IU Health, free blood pressure screenings and other health services are reaching people at local barbershops, connecting those at risk with follow-up care. IU researchers are evaluating the program’s impact—helping turn community connections into a model for improving health outcomes where people live, work, and gather.
I’ve seen this program work: people who have gotten their numbers down, people who are taking care of themselves. If we can just save one person, I think we’re doing a good job.
