KVCR (also known as Empire Network and Empire PBS) is a PBS affiliate located in San Bernadino, California. Initially a radio station, it started TV broadcasting on September 11, 1962, and the radio station would become an affiliate of NPR in the spring of 1970, with the TV station becoming a PBS affiliate in fall of that same year. In 2017, the network was sometimes branded as Empire Network and two years later, the channel was renamed to Empire PBS.
1st (known) Logo (1987-1990s)
Visuals: Over an image of a tree-filled setting below a pale sky, there is the stacked text "KVCR-TV CHANNEL24 SAN BERNADINO / RIVERSIDE, CA. INLAND PUBLIC TELEVISION", placed on the low corner of the screen and having the words in different fonts, and colors.
Variant: On the channel's 25th anniversary, an extra set of text was added before the network name, reading "Celebrating 25 years in" with the text in blue and "25" in white.
Technique: Live-action.
Audio: A light, long soft-jazz jingle, accompanied with an ukulele.
Visuals: On a black background, the words "KVCR" and "TV" are shown in a font made of different lines, which is filled with different rainbow colors. Then, the text "San Bernardino" (city of license) appears below the "KVCR", while "Riverside" fades next to "TV".
Technique: Computer animation.
Audio: None.
Visuals: On a moving cloudy background, the notice "A Presentation of" sits on top of the text "KVCR", made in stone and standing in a sideway position on top of the "TV" word on the right. The text "San Bernardino" stands below the station's name.
Technique: CGI.
Audio: Opening theme for the show.
| Media Title | Date(s) of Release | Additional Note(s) |
|---|---|---|
| College Close-up | 1996 | |
| Table for Two | 1996 |
Visuals: On a background made of yellow and red filmreels, a reel with a countdown from 8 rolls down. Then, the text "A Presentation of" appears along with the red name "KVCR", which comes with a somersault from the right side of the screen, and lands next to the countdown. Meanwhile, the text "San Bernardino, CA" slides faster from the right side of the screen and stops under the "KVCR" logo.
Technique: CGI and live-action.
Audio: "Big Bark" by Mark Rider.
Visuals: The camera pans down to a white background, which has 3 blue blocks stacked with one on top of the right block, forming a backwards "L"; and the letters of "KVCR" in black flying down and setting up next to the cubes, in order to form the station's name.
Technique: CGI.
Audio: Excerpt of "Fresh Outlook Now" by Robert J. Walsh and Emir Isilay.
Visuals: On a white background, 3 turquoise squares fly to the middle of the screen and make a background "L". After this, they create a shining ripple, showing "a presentation of" above the screen and the bigger black "KVCR" next to the cubes.
Technique: CGI.
Audio: Same as before, which is an excerpt of "Fresh Outlook Now" by Robert J. Walsh and Emir Isilay.
Visuals: On a white background, the black 3D text "EMPIRE" (with the "M" being bigger than the others) rises from the bottom left of the screen to the middle and becomes plain. At the same time, a backwards red tree drops on the "M", a bell drops on the "I", and the word "NETWORK" drops down from "EMPIRE".
Technique: CGI.
Audio: A downbeat theme with a guitar riff.
Visuals: On a white background, the text "A Production of" wipes in above. Suddenly, the "EMPIRE" logo fades in and has this time, a blue upside-down tree on top of the "M" and a horizontal line below having the word "KVCR" above.
Variant: Sometimes, the 2009 or 2019 PBS logos may fade in and slide to the right, in order to make the "EMPIRE" logo appearing on its left.
Technique: 2D animation.
Audio: An orchestral hit.
