Foxlab, Inc.
Foxlab, Inc. was a production sub-division of the Fox Broadcasting Company, operating under 20th Television. It was originally formed as "Fox Television Stations Productions", but was renamed to Foxlab in 1995,[1] though the FTSP name and logo continued to be used on Cops until 2013. It focused primarily on low-budget or low-profile reality television programs. Fox Lab was originally closed in 1996, but was revived in 2003 with Daniel Tibbets heading the company.[2]
Visuals: On a dark background, the spread-out, lowercase, metallic-colored text "f o x l a b" sits still and fixed in the center of the screen, while thick trailing slivers of "smoke" swirl from behind the letters.
Trivia: This logo was modeled after the 1992 logo of Fox Television Stations Productions. The main differences are that the slivers of smoke in this logo move differently and are less blue, and no additional text is seen rippling underneath.
Variant: Sometimes, only the first half of the logo plays.
Technique: Computer-animated smoke effects, provided by Xaos, Inc.
Audio: None or the closing theme of the show.
Visuals: A green-tinted gray tower structure pans down from above on a black background, revealing the words "FOX LAB" written in the usual Fox font, with two static beams standing at the edges of the "L" and the "B" emitting sparks of electricity from side to side, then the structure rapidly zooms out in its proper slanted "20th Century Fox" format position. The tower is now in gold, surrounded by a dark blue stormy sky, with a thick, bellowing, fast-moving mixture of cumulonimbus and nimbostratus clouds (using the same stock video as the Fox Television Studios logo, only the video is faster and sharper). A jolt of electricity moves up the tower, similar to that of a "Jacob's Ladder". Sometimes, the byline "A NEWS CORPORATION COMPANY" fades in underneath.
Trivia:
- Like the other 1994 Fox logos, this logo was produced and directed at Flip Your Lid Animation.[3]
- Its creation date is currently unknown, but the logo debuted on an animation reel from the aforementioned company.
Variant: A short version of this logo begins from the zoom out. The static beams are also left intact, with the first sparks of electricity emitting as the camera is zooming out.
Technique: CGI by Flip Your Lid Animation.
Audio: Film projector sounds and sparking electricity, followed by a dramatic choir-like sound (notably one of the few Fox logos to not use the iconic fanfare in any way), ending in more sparking electricity sounds.
Audio Variants:
- The shortened version omits the film projector sounds, and has the first spark of electricity happen during the dramatic choir-like sound.
- The logo as seen on the Flip Your Lid Animation website is silent.
