The video of this logo may be too loud or severely distorted.
Visuals: The screen fades into a close-up shot of the Milky Way before zooming away, passing by the Earth, then arrives at the Detroit skylines. As soon as the zooming stops, the words "THE UNIVERSE", "THE WORLD", and "DETROIT" all zoom out stacking on each other, and then the text "and you" is written in cursive, and the WTVS logo of the time fades in below.
Variant: There is a shorter version that just starts at the texts zooming out.
Technique: Analog computer animation.
Audio: A majestic eight-note synthesized orchestra tune, with a "ding" at the beginning.
Audio Variant: The shorter version uses a quicker, 10-note synth tune.
2nd ID (1991-1998)
Visuals: The camera pans through a hallway with a bunch of PBS program clips on the walls. When it reaches the exit, the hallway is revealed to be a circle that rotates, revealing the "56" logo. The logo shines as "QUALITY SHOWS" fades in below it, then fades into "WTVS DETROIT".
Variants:
Sometimes this logo is abridged, starting as the circle rotates, and "QUALITY SHOWS" is omitted.
On signoffs, a still version of the finished ident is used.
Technique: CGI produced by Sage-3D.
Audio: A mild action news-like fanfare which then turns into harp music and the four notes from the previous logo on a flute followed by a bassoon.
Audio Variant: On the abridged variant, an announcer says "You're watching WTVS, Channel 56 in Detroit."

Visuals: On a brown wooden background, there is a white piece of paper and a yellow crayon drawing on it, before zooming out to reveal the eclipse logo, drawn with a blue crayon appearing and “Detroit Public Television” underneath drawn in blue crayon and “WTVS Detroit” written in the bottom right corner of the screen.
Variant: There is a longer version that consists of the blue crayon coming in first and drawing the logo before the yellow crayon joins it.
Technique: CGI.
Audio: A lively instrumental theme that incorporates the three-note theme of the station, with dialogue between a father and a son: "Hey, what are you doing?", "Watching Detroit Public Television.", "That's WTVS Detroit!", "I knew that."
Audio Variants: Two additional voiceover variations of the short version have surfaced and are detailed below:
"Wanna take a break?", "Sure!", "I think you’re gonna like this next work."
"I’m going to watch it.", "So am I!", "Detroit Public Television!"
2nd ID (2002-2004)
Visuals: On a filmstrip background, the eclipse logo zooms out from the center of the screen. As it zooms out, the words "Detroit Public TV" zoom out, with "Detroit" settling on top and "Public TV" settling below it. Suddenly, the background morphs into a film leader as the words "WTVS Detroit" and Detroit Public TV's web address scroll across the screen. The logo may be overlaid over the 2002 CPB background in 2:35:1. If not, it has "It's Worth Your Time" below.
Technique: CGI.
Audio: The same three notes but in a lower pitch played on a piano mixed with drums and what sounds like an organ, and then the sound of an old film projector.

Visuals: Against a navy blue-tan gradient background, an abstract, multi-lined "56" arranges itself on a blue rounded square as it zooms out to the top left. Then a cut-out of the Detroit skyline fades into the background, and the text "WTVS/Detroit" slides out from the bottom left of the screen.
Technique: CGI and analog computer animation.
Audio: A rising synth chord followed by a rather spacey three-note tune.
Visuals: The camera zooms out from a space background with the Milky Way and a live-action model of Earth on the left, and then downwards towards the skyline of Detroit, which is made up of a model of the Renaissance Center and an assortment of cut-out pictures of other buildings in Detroit. Blue text "From" and white text "WTVS/Detroit" both quickly zoom out from the center of the screen. A glossy blue square containing the "56" symbol from the previous logo flips on to the top right of the screen and shines.
Variant: On Canada: True North, the logo begins with the finished background. However, two lines of text reading "FROM" and "WTVS DETROIT" slide in respectively, from the screen's left and right sides and flip into view.
Technique: Live-action model work and analog computer animation.
Visuals: On a fuzzy green and brown background, there are three lines of gold text reading "a production of," "WTVS," and "Detroit" all stacked on top of each other. The text shines.
Visuals: On a blue-orange gradient background, The text "FROM" in white and "WTVS/DETROIT" in red slide onto the screen and flip into visibility in the same fashion as the 4th logo.
Visuals: On an animated blurry background of different shapes (like the 1998 logo), there is a spinning Taijitu (used in representing yin and yang, but lacking the dots) with one half teal and the other pink. "A PRODUCTION OF" in a white Impact-like font fades in above. A gray sphere (kind of like the Moon) with "WTVS" in the same font on it zooms in. "DETROIT" in the same font and in white fades in below.
Variant: There is a version of this logo without the "A PRODUCTION OF" header, which was commonly used as a local funding bumper from 1993 to 1994.
Technique: Camera-controlled animation.
Audio: A 4-note orchestral fanfare, or silent with a voiceover for the local funding bumper from 1993 to 1994.
Visuals: A blue box containing part of a yellow sunburst eclipse is seen on a blurry animated background similar to WTVS's fifth logo. The texts "A Production Of" and "Detroit Public Television" are above and below the logo.
Trivia: The "Eclipse" logo came from a public produced-organization company called Lark International, which is its parent original company next to PBS. The company had also formerly owned KUHT/Houston Public Media (formerly Houston Public Television, later on Houston PBS) until 2001, and KCTS Seattle until 2006, both of which used the same "Eclipse" logo.
Technique: 2D computer animation.
Audio: Three chime notes against a string background.
Visuals: On a dark blue tinted action background, "A Production of", "Detroit Public Television" and the eclipse logo between them zoom out, leaving trails behind. In the background, there are the transparent letters of "Detroit Public Television". The eclipse in the square shines.
Variants:
An enhanced version was introduced in the mid-late 2000's, where the background is lighter in color.
On season 3 of In the Frame: Exploring the DIA, the enhanced logo, alongside the credits, are now played inside a photo frame laid on a red cloth.
"Production" may be replaced with "Presentation".
Technique: 2D computer animation.
Audio: The three notes from the 1998 logo on a piano, horn and string, followed by two more notes.
Audio Variant: For the enhanced version, there is no horn nor string, only the piano.
