Cannon Cinemas
Cannon Cinemas was a cinema chain owned by The Cannon Group, Inc. Most cinemas were in the UK. The multiplex cinemas rebranded into MGM Cinemas in 1992, but the other smaller cinemas remained as Cannon until 1995, when they became the revived ABC Cinemas.
Visuals: On a black background, a four-striped angular "C" and a right-pointing arrow slide in from the left and right, respectively, connecting together to form a hexagonal shape in a white-blue gradient shade with white drop shadows to replicate a metallic look, while the bronze text that reads either "CANNON CINEMAS PRESENT" or "INTERVAL" fades in below, set in a Microgramma font, with a white drop shadow set directed underneath the letters. The pieces shine with a set pattern (leaning to the left, straight, then leaning to the right) along each of the lines, and the text fades out as each layer disconnects and zooms out towards the screen, from outer to inner layers.
Trivia: It's mostly the same as the 1984-1993 Cannon Films logo, save for the obvious text change.
Variant: After the advertising reel ends, three silver bars with "CANNON", "SCREEN", and "ADVERTISING" appear. They zoom out and shine, and the logo plays as usual, except the bottom text reads "CANNON CINEMAS". After the hexagon segments zoom out, "TO ADVERTISE ON THIS SCREEN, TELEPHONE" and the company's phone number appears.
Technique: Motion-controlled animation and rostrum effects.
Audio: A dramatic synth horn/drum tune with a synthesized "shining" sound (done with a preset on the Yamaha DX7 known as "E. PIANO 1") and a flourish produced by a string instrument of some sort. It was composed by Alan Oldfield and Michael Linn.
Availability Notes: Some longer films, which were the primary sources of the logo, would be split up into two parts. The logo would play before the interval (or intermission) with "INTERVAL" written below instead. Then, after the interval, the logo would play again, with "CANNON CINEMAS PRESENT" below.
