{{#invoke:QNA|get_question|mode = {{{mode}}}|num = {{{num}}} }}
number gives the qna number
there are three main modes qc for question corner, bbf, for the bbf databook, and other. then you have to add either q for the qna itself, or s for the source.
The code uses module:QNA/Data, please update the data page if anything changes.
Refer to the index below for the shorthand value.
The original mediawiki template used strings, while the current lua module uses numbers for the index. the strings will be shown for archival purposes, but only the number shown will work.

|---|---|
| 1 Paid |
Q: Do Border agents get paid? A: I might show it one day, but yes, agents do get paid. B-Rank Agents get a fee per Trion Soldier they defeat. A-Rank Agents have a salary + fee per Trion Soldier. C-Rank Trainees do not get paid. |
| 2 Reject Border |
Q: Are there any requirements, like fitness tests, for applying to Border? A: There are basic fitness tests, basic achievement tests, and an interview. Other than having low Trion levels or a criminal record, you won't get rejected (Osamu was nearly rejected). |
| 3 Trion Training |
Q: Can the Trion Gland be strengthened with training? Does Trion get replenished with time or sleep? A: Just like lung capacity and muscle strength, it can be improved somewhat, and does recover with nutrition and rest. |
| 4 Young Border |
Q: Why are all Border agents young? A: The biggest reason is that the younger you are, the more your Trion Gland can grow. Agents over age 20 whose growth has stopped often go into administration (like Sawamura). |
| 5 BHS |
Q: Do Border high schoolers go to the same school? A: For better coordination of agent schedules, they often go to the same school, but they don't have to. |
| 6 Pain |
Q: Do Trion bodies feel pain from Trigger attacks? A: There is a pain sensation that tells you what part of your body got damaged. This can be turned completely off. |
| 7 Heal Trion Body |
Q: Can you use Trion to heal damage? A: It is impossible to repair a Trion body. The Trion Body is basically disposable. Once destroyed, you need to create another one, which takes time and more Trion. |
| 8 op how |
Q: How do you become an Operator? A: Some apply for it from the beginning, and some change track from combatants. |
| 9 op gender |
Q: Can only girls become Operators? A: Almost all Operators are female. They say this is because women have higher parallel processing capabilities. Men can be Operators too. On the other hand, almost all the Engineers are male. |
| 10 squad limit |
Q: Is there a limit to the number of members on a Squad? A: A team of five, with four Combatants and one Operator is the limit. Any more and it goes over the Operator's data processing capability. |
| 11 tama2 outfits |
Q: Why do Osamu and Chika have different outfits? Do they have free rein? A: Chika's outfit is the standard C-Rank female Sniper (up to junior high) uniform. Jin made the adjustments to Osamu's. That's why it has Tamakoma's shoulder epaulette. |
| 12 narasaka bamboo |
Q: Why is Narasaka the bamboo guy in the mushroom family? A: To avoid unnecessary bloodshed. |
| 13 raijinmaru girl |
Q: Is Raijinmaru male or female? A: Raijinmaru looks female, but everyone at Tamakoma probably thinks Raijinmaru is male. |
| 14 yuma bento |
Q: Was Yūma eating a lunch made by Osamu in Chapter 2? A: He brought it himself. |
| 15 osamu eyesight |
Q: What's Osamu's eyesight? A: Both eyes are 20/100. |
| 16 glasses bath |
Q: Does Osamu take his glasses off when he takes a bath? A: Probably not. He may even wear them while he's asleep. Perpetual Glasses. |
| 17 arashiyama parents |
Q: Does Arashiyama have parents? A: Yes. His dad is an office worker and his mom works part-time. He also lives with his grandmother, a brother and sister, and one dog. |
| 18 torimaru jobs |
Q: What kind of jobs does Karasuma have? A: Delivering the newspaper, grocery cashier, waiter. There are rumors that more female customers come in on his shift days. |
| 19 osamu sweats |
Q: How do you feel about Osamu sweating all the time? A: Osamu breaking into a cold sweat is like ketchup on an omelet rice (his glasses are the eggs). |
| 20 age limit |
Q: Is there an age limit to applying to Border? A: There isn't a strict age limit as long as you have Trion, but you're more likely to be hired the younger you are because the Trion Gland can grow more. |
| 21 Rapid Teleport |
Q: Can you Teleport in rapid succession? A: Distance = Trion consumed. Longer distances (over 30m) require a longer resting interval of several seconds. Short distances (2-3m) require 0.5 seconds or so. |
| 22 wortri |
Q: Is World Trigger abbreviated to "WorTri" or just "Trigger"? A: My editor calls it "Trigger". My manager calls it "WorTri". My assistants and I never abbreviate it and call it "World Trigger". |
| 23 jin SE limit |
Q: How far into the future can Jin see? A: He can see several years into the future that's pretty certain (high probability of actualization). But he can't see very far into uncertain futures that might be tinkered with. |
| 24 chika vs izumi trion |
Q: Who has more Trion, Chika or Izumi? A: Chika. Izumi is a prodigy, but Chika is a monster. |
| 25 raijinmaru source |
Q: Was Raijinmaru purchased at a pet shop? A: Director Rindō brought her from somewhere. It's a mystery. |
| 26 kazama short |
Q: Why is Kazama so short? A: "Big power in a small package". That's Kazama. |
| 27 uniform design |
Q: How are Trion body uniform designs decided? A: There are several basic designs, and each squad adds their own embellishments. The jersey style is popular because it doesn't intimidate civilians. Some suits, like Kazama Squad's, have functional additions. |
| 28 trion genetic |
Q: Is Trion capacity inherited? A: Sometimes, but not necessarily. For example, Chika's parents don't have high Trion. |
| 29 op away missions |
Q: Do Operators go on Away Missions? A: According to Usami in Volume 3, they do. Border has portable computers that operate on Trion, enabling them to support agents without a power supply. |
| 30 squad count |
Q: How many A and B-Rank squads are there? A: There are currently eight A-Rank Squads and 20 B-Rank Squads, but it changes from time to time as the ranks change. |
| 31 reiji cooks |
Q: What does Reiji like to cook? A: A dish of stir-fried vegetables with meat, meat and more meat. It's become a staple at Tamakoma. |
| 32 mentor find |
Q: How do newly-enlisted agents find mentors? A: First you watch matches or videos of people who are good and study up. When you get to a certain level of competence, talk to them directly or get someone to introduce you. Or you can challenge them in individual matches. |
| 33 mentor via rival |
Q: Has anyone risen to A-Rank without mentors (besides the initial members)? A: Several. Like Izumi, Kikuchihara and Yōsuke. You can get better without a mentor if you have good rivals. |
| 34 tachi grasshopper |
Q: When Tachikawa destroyed the Ilgar, did he teleport or jump from the roof? A: He probably used an Optional Trigger called Grasshopper. Midorikawa uses it in this volume. |
| 35 HS |
Q: Do A-Rank high schoolers all go to the same school? A: There are two schools affiliated with Border (one regular and one college prep). Kodera, Narasaka, Usami, Utagawa and Kikuchihara go to the college prep school. Most of the others go to a regular school. Some, like Konami (and Kitora), go to a private girls school. |
| 36 body where |
Q: Where is the physical body while the Trion body is activated? A: Stored where the Trion body was, inside the Trigger Holder. |
| 37 Shotgun |
Q: Tell us more about the gun Trigger (a shotgun?) Suwa was using in chapter 45. A: It's a shotgun that blasts a bunch of largish bullets. You can adjust the angle of the blast to some extent. Pro: high firepower. Con: slow reload. |
| 38 scorpion flexibility |
Q: How drastically can Scorpion change shape? Can you wrap it around your whole body? A: The shape can change a good bit. How much it can expand depends on your Trion levels, but the wider it is spread, the weaker it becomes. It would be as fragile as glass if you put it around your body. Chika might be able to pull it off. |
| 39 wacky tachi |
Q: Tell us more wacky anecdotes about Tachikawa, who's bad at everything non-combat. A: • He pronounced the English "danger' like "dang-ah". • He thought an unplugged computer was broken. • He picked out the dried fruit from granola and threw the rest away. |
| 40 osamu glasses style |
Q: Why are Osamu’s glasses frames under-rim style? A: He picked it up from his father (who's still alive, by the way). |
| 41 senpai vs san |
Q: When do people start to call their seniors "Mr./Mrs./Miss"? A: People older than high school and college start to get called "Mr./Mrs./Miss". So when Osamu doesn't add "Mr." to Kazama... |
| 42 chameleon uniform |
Q: The round parts of Kazama Squad's uniform react when they activate Chameleon. What're they doing? A: The uniform is embedded with a mechanism that reduces the Chameleon's Trion consumption. But it increases the cost of the Trion Body. |
| 43 ryo AR |
Q: Is Utagawa an Attacker or All-Rounder? A: The first editions of the graphic novels (in Japan) have it wrong. He's an All-Rounder. |
| 44 Kogetsu On |
Q: Can you not put away Kogetsu only while it's selected, or the whole time the Trigger is on? A: Once the Kogetsu is selected, it is always out. It disappears in the art sometimes, but that's just me forgetting to draw it. |
| 45 LB Weight |
Q: How heavy is one of Miwa's Lead Bullets? A: About 100kg (220lb). Yūma's Anchor is about twice that. |
| 46 Tsukimi and Tachikawa |
Q: What is the relationship between Tsukimi and Tachikawa? (Tachikawa's birthday comes earlier so he's older, isn't he)? A: Tsukimi is Tachikawa's childhood friend and mentor when it comes to strategy. It goes Azuma, Tsukimi (and many other pupils) and then Tachikawa. |
| 47 Trion Body Uniform |
Q: The Trion body wears a Border uniform when the Trigger is activated, but are the Trion Bodies automatically made wearing a uniform? A: The clothing upon Trigger activation can be an outfit specifically chosen by the Agent or can just be the default outfit. You can register multiple outfits of your own choosing. |
| 48 Trion Body Repair |
Q: When Yūma's wounds healed after he was struck by a car (Chapter 2), does that mean that his Trion Body repaired itself? A: Yes. Yūma's regular body is less durable than his Trion Body, but it has a repair function. A regular Trion Body wouldn't be damaged in a car crash. |
| 49 Sniper Rifle |
Q: Are Sniper rifles always out in that gun shape once activated? Or can you put it away, or shrink it down to carry it around. A: Gun-types stay out once it is activated. if you extinguish it, the next time you take it out, you will need to use up a gun's worth of trion again. |
| 50 ARsnipe |
Q: Can All-Rounders snipe too? A: Not really. An All-Rounder is good at close and mid-range combat. The only Perfect All-Rounder who can also snipe is Reiji. |
| 51 Eyesight |
Q: is it important for Snipers to have good eyesight? A: Eyesight is perfected for the Trion Body, so it doesn't matter. People with glasses keep them because the glasses are tied to their identity. |
| 52 twin snipe practice |
Q: Is Satori's double-barreled sniping technique highly advanced? Did he need to practice it, or was it his natural talent? A: He practiced. Satori pursued firepower and awesomeness to perfect it. But nobody's going to imitate him. |
| 53 konami hair |
Q: Does Konami's Trion Body have short hair to conserve Trion? A: It's most likely so her hair doesn't get in the way during a battle. It's her old hairstyle. |
| 54 tokieda cats |
Q: Tokieda lists cats as one of his likes, but does he have any at home? A: He has two. Arthur, a brown tabby, and a black and white cat named Tomio. |
| 55 yotaro helmet |
Q: Why does Yōtarō wear a helmet? A: Because he's always in battle mode. Reiji made it for him. |
| 56 who is MC |
Q: Who is the main character, Yūma or Osamu? A: Either one. I personally consider the four people I drew on the first title page as the main characters (Yūichi Jin, Chika Amatori, Yūma Kuga, and Osamu Mikumo) |
| 57 bonchi |
Q: If you were to eat Bonchi fried rice crackers in Jin's room without asking him, would he get mad at you? A: You would start to get shipments of Bonchi fried rice crackers sent to your room. |
| 58 gates where |
Q: Do gates open only in Mikado City or do they also open elsewhere? A: They open around the world and people secretly get kidnapped. But since a big one opened in Mikado, the world thinks that they only open in Mikado. |
| 59 why tachi kido |
Q: Why is Tachikawa affiliated with Kido when Shinoda taught him how to use a sword? A: The Kido Faction prioritizes Away Missions, and the Shinoda Faction prioritizes defense. Tachikawa is interested in Away Missions. It's not because he disagrees with Shinoda. |
| 60 Away Team |
Q: Does the Away Team try to avoid detection? A: They sneak in to get Trigger Technology through trades or negotiations. If a country is in the middle of a war, they will fight off attackers and take their Triggers. |
| 61 konami before ara |
Q: Konami and Arashiyama are related. Did they join around the same time? A: Konami joined much earlier. Konami has been around since Old Border, and Arashiyama joined after the current base was built. |
| 62 kikucchi likes |
Q: Does Kikuchihara actually like anything? A: Friends and colleagues. |
| 63 rinji sister |
Q: Rinji was Osamu’s mentor, right? So shouldn't Osamu show more respect towards Rinji's sister Chika? A: Osamu doesn't act that way towards Chika because he's insensitive. Both Rinji and Chika herself allow him to be informal with her. |
| 64 koda squad form |
Q: Does Kōda Squad (New Three Idiots) have any other formations besides Bird? A: They currently have ten formations including Dragon, Snake and Horse. Nine of them are "everyone attack at once" and one is "everyone run for your lives". |
| 65 Rebuild Trion Body |
Q: After an agent returns to their normal body, do they have to rebuild the Trion Body like they do after they Bail Out? A: When an Agent returns to their normal body on their own, their Trion Body is "put away". They can decide to use the same Trion Body next time, but the damage to the body won't be repaired. |
| 66 spider box |
Q: Are the wires used in Reiji's traps are the same as the ones Kitora uses? Is the box used inside the trap a Meteor? A: It's a Trigger called Spider and it's the same as Kitora's. It can do various things depending on which Trigger it's combined with. The box used in the trap was a Meteor (in 27 pieces). |
| 67 Izumi Tomahawk |
Q: Izumi synthesized a Tomahawk by combining a Viper and a Meteor. Can he do that because he's a genius or could Osamu do it too with practice? A: It's possible to do it with practice, but it would take some time. If Osamu tried to shoot a Tomahawk now, it would take him a whole minute to prepare. It only takes Izumi two seconds. |
| 68 Shield Distance |
Q: How far can an agent deploy a remote Shield like the ones used in the battle with Ranbanein? A: It depends on individual ability, but they should be able to deploy a Shield up to 25 meters away. This remote defense is one of the reasons that Shield is superior to Raygust's Shield Mode. |
| 69 squad emblems |
Q: Do only A-Rank squads have their own emblems? A: Once a squad makes A-Rank they can make their own emblem. Even if they are eventually demoted to B-Rank, they can continue to use their emblem until the squad disbands. |
| 70 Trigger On |
Q: Can you transform without saying "Trigger on" out loud? A: If you are touching the Trigger holder and give a clear signal, you can be silent or use a different word. You can even have your own unique transformation phrase. |
| 71 tamakoma living |
Q: Please tell us if there are any characters who are living in Tamakoma Branch. A: Director Rindō, Yōtarō, Jin, and Reiji live there, but rooms are provided for everyone and people like Konami or Usami frequently stay over. There are plans to provide rooms for Osamu, Yūma, and Chika too. |
| 72 Gun type Triggers |
Q: During the battle versus Ranbanein, Okudera used Full Guard; does that mean you can use other Triggers if you just put Kogetsu in a sheath without extinguishing it? A: Even without putting it in a sheath you can turn the Kogetsu off, but the sharpness will become zero. You won’t be able to use it and you can’t deactivate it either, so it’s a big hindrance. Extinguishing Kogetsu and then remaking one later when you need it again will mean it’s not a hindrance, but it will use up trion. It is the same with gun-type Triggers. |
| 73 trion gland decay |
Q: Does the Trion gland decay with age? A: It seems it slowly decays if it is not used. Using it maintains it to a certain extent. |
| 74 croquettes |
Q: What is Osamu’s favorite out of his mother’s home-made dishes? A: Cream croquettes. Even the white sauce is hand-made. |
| 75 agent origins |
Q: Are all the agents from Mikado City? A: Generally they are, but scouting occurs in other prefectures too so there are a small number from other regions. |
| 76 what is cube |
Q: What is it called when Shooters produce Trion in cube form? A: Trion Cube, nata de coco (fermented coconut cubes), sugar cube, Suwa, tofu, etc. Everyone calls it whatever they want. |
| 77 Chameleon Hound |
Q: While Chameleon is in use, can Hound bullets track you? And do you show up on Radar? A: Hound bullets that use "Detection Guidance" can, but usually they are intercepted by walls and so on. Even during Stealth Mode, you still show up on Radar, so it’s possible to use that to make a rough counter-attack. |
| 78 tamakoma c uniform |
Q: Yūma’s C-Rank uniform is black; was this also specially arranged by Jin? A: It seems to be something that Yūma’s father, Yūgo, had configured a long time ago. It is a remnant from the times of Old Border. |
| 79 fake cigarette |
Q: Why is Suwa smoking even though he’s in a Trion Body? A: It’s to show off. Since there have been no depictions of ashtrays, there is also the possibility that it might not actually be a cigarette. |
| 80 replica eat |
Q: Can Replica eat food?? A: He cannot gain nutrition from food, but as a poison taster he can eat it. Good for survival. |
| 81 jin glasses |
Q: What’s the reason behind Jin's sunglasses not slipping? A: They're connected at the back. |
| 82 replica sleep |
Q: Can Replica sleep? A: He doesn’t need to sleep to recharge, but he does have a ‘sleep mode’-like feature. To stay out of the way when he isn’t needed, he is on standby (sleep mode) in the ring. |
| 83 yugo vs shinoda |
Q: Out of the current characters, who is about as strong as Yūgo? A: Yūgo was as strong as the current Shinoda. Four years ago, Yūgo would have been stronger, but Shinoda trained every day and caught up. |
| 84 Trion Regen |
Q: Do normal Trion Body users also not need to sleep but need to eat? A: Trion Body users need rest just like usual. This is because the brain and nerves get fatigued, and because the Trion Gland does not recuperate while using a Trion Body. |
| 85 raygust separate |
Q: Is Raygust’s shield mode a separate trigger? A: Shield mode is not an optional trigger, but one of Raygust’s standard functions. As such it does not use a Trigger slot. |
| 86 Rebuild Time |
Q: Are there any differences in the amount of time it takes a person to recreate a Trion Body? A: The more Trion a person has (= the more Trion that gets used in battle) the bigger the cost of constructing a Trion Body, so recreating it will take more time. Chika takes a lot of time but Osamu can return to battle fairly quickly (in about 1~2 hours time). |
| 87 agents offduty |
Q: What do Border Agents do on their days off when they’re not on duty and there’s no school? A: Polishing their skills in solo Rank Wars, studying the recordings, immersing in hobbies, feeling sad, falling asleep, thinking about what to buy with their wages, being swamped with homework, playing around, dancing with joy, visiting grave sites, or thinking about the person they like. |
| 88 satori penalties |
Q: In the end, did Satori have to face any penalties after Chika blew a hole in the wall of HQ with that Ibis? A: It seems that, due to Azuma and Arashiyama covering for him, he got away with just a chop from Kinuta. |
| 89 scabbard |
Q: What is the difference between ‘turning off Kogetsu and then recreating it’ and ‘putting away Scorpion and taking it out again’? A: ‘Putting away Scorpion’ is similar to ‘putting Kogetsu back in its scabbard’. They’re both out of the way, but Scorpion is less of a burden. ‘Turning off Kogetsu’ means to destroy both the scabbard with the blade. |
| 90 Sniper Limit |
Q: What distance is the limit for a Sniper Trigger to hit its mark? A: If it’s an unmoving target, someone who is good at premise sniping like Narasaka or Hanzaki can hit the mark from 1km away with an Egret. An Ibis or Lightning’s range will be shorter. |
| 91 yuma eats more |
Q: Even though Yūma doesn't need to sleep since gaining a Trion body (Chapter 94), does he get hungry? A: I believe that Yūma needs to eat food to send nutrients to his dying body, so he eats more than others. |
| 92 crank 1 trigger |
Q: C-Rank Members are only supposed to have one weapon Trigger, but why did Chika train with a Bagworm on at Tamakoma? A: That was a Tamakoma Trigger that Reiji provided to drive the foundations of sniping into her. It is set with the three types of sniper rifles and Bagworm. |
| 93 Other Branches |
Q: Are there any branches besides Tamakoma and Suzunari? A: Border has 6 branches: Tamakoma, Suzunari, Wataayu (綿鮎 ?), Yumite District (弓手町 ?), Hayanuma (早沼 ?), and Kuma (久摩 ?). Its personnel are mostly those who prioritise work or school and don’t aim for A-Rank (they do not participate in the twice a week Rank Wars). The branches are placed on the outer edge of the Forbidden Zone. Other than Tamakoma, the branches function as a point of contact for local residents. |
| 94 AR def |
Q: How is an All-Rounder defined? A: An All-Rounder is ‘an agent who has earned more than 6,000 solo points in both Attacker and Gunner Triggers respectively’. Right now Border’s overall level is on the rise and there are those who say it should be raised to above 8,000. |
| 95 character names |
Q: How do you think of names for the characters? A: Surnames are just ones that fit, roll off the tongue easily, and isn’t too unique. First names are chosen by thinking about the parents that would be picking the names for these people. |
| 96 train trion |
Q: Can’t you train your Trion Gland in Virtual Combat Mode? A: You can’t. You can only train your reflexes and increase combat experience in virtual mode. Trion Gland can only be trained through using Trion. |
| 97 Defense Difference |
Q: What is the difference between Shield, Raygust Shield Mode, and Escudo? A: Shield: Can change shape. Durability changes according to the size of the surface area. Moving it lowers the durability. Raygust: Can change shape. Durability changes a little according to the size of the surface area. Even if you wave it around in your hand the durability will not change. Escudo: Cannot change shape. Cannot be moved. High durability. Needs a place (such as a wall or floor) to grow out of. |
| 98 Escudo LB |
Q: Can Escudo defend from Lead Bullets? A: Escudo converts Trion into a material form, so it can. It is treated the same as blocking Lead Bullets with walls or buildings. |
| 99 Miwa LB |
Q: In Volume 2, before he used Lead Bullet, Miwa loaded a Trigger into the handgun, do Triggers in the shape of other guns have that kind of feature too? A: Miwa’s Lead Bullet is customized. By loading an external magazine that was created beforehand, Lead Bullet can be used as the "handgun’s exclusive optional trigger" (so you can use a Lead Bullet handgun in the left hand and another Trigger in the right hand). The demerit is that the cost of a magazine is high, and the number of bullets are limited. Other gun Triggers can also use it if they are customized. |
| 100 cars on trion |
Q: Can motorbikes or cars run on Trion energy? A: If HQ were to develop a "car-shape Trigger that runs on trion" then it’s possible. There is already a mechanism that converts trion into electricity, so I think electric automobiles can naturally run off it, but It wouldn't be very efficient, due to high energy loss. |
| 101 BT Shield |
Q: Do Black Triggers not come with communication abilities or Shields? A: It’s different depending on the Black Trigger. For instance, Fūjin doesn’t seem to have Shield but looks like it has communication abilities (a receiver sometimes being there, sometimes not is the author's mistake). Yūma's Black Trigger doesn’t have communication abilities but Replica was responsible for that role. |
| 102 border quitters |
Q: Are there people who have resigned from Border? And is that possible? A: There are times when agents or staff leave Border due to career or family matters. To quell confidential leaks, measures might or might not be taken to seal memories depending on the kind of person who’s leaving. For instance, if Taichi were to leave, I think his memories would probably be sealed. |
| 103 Bail Out Duct |
Q: What happens if you Bail Out inside Border HQ? Do you fly outside first and then fly back to HQ? A: Inside the HQ Base there are ducts for Bail Out use, so you will return to your Strategy Room through those. You don’t need to go outside. |
| 104 Jin Scorpion |
Q: It’s said that Jin made Scorpion, but are there any conditions for an agent to take part in Trigger development? A: Kako talked a little about it in Volume 14; when you become A-Rank Agent, you can make requests with Engineers to customise your Trigger. Developing new Triggers is just an extension of that. |
| 105 utagawa sister age gap |
Q: Is there a large age difference between Utagawa and his older sister? A: It does seem like there is. |
| 106 miwa mentor |
Q: Does Miwa have a sword or gun mentor? A: He started using handguns as a countermeasure to getting beat up by Tachikawa, so in a way you can’t not say Tachikawa is his mentor. |
| 107 SE operator |
Q: Is there anyone with a Side Effect among the Operators? A: There is. I think I will get to draw it at some point. |
| 108 Starmaker |
Q: How is Starmaker used during normal defense duty or in Rank Wars? A: Mostly as a countermeasure for stealth. Even a graze will let you mark that section, and as long as it’s not cut off then you can make Chameleon or Bagworm temporarily rendered useless. Its weaknesses are that it’s an All-Purpose Optional Triggers so it can’t be used with Full Attack, and usually you defeat the enemy before they even get marked. |
| 109 chika izumi |
Q: In Volume 8, if Chika temporarily linked with Izumi instead of Osamu, what would happen to the power of the Asteroid? A: Chika's burst of Trion would've been the same, so the attack would be identical to Osamu's. if they'd been going for pure power, having Osamu and Izumi hold hands would've produced the biggest, flashiest attack of all. |
| 110 rilienthal plush |
Q: Who brought the Rilienthal plush that was in Osamu's hospital room in Volume 10? Was it Yōsuke? A: It’s a toss-up between Yōsuke and Usami, but it feels like it was Yōsuke. |
| 111 nino snowmen |
Q: Were the snowmen in Chapter 115 made by Ninomiya himself? A: He made them industriously himself. It was in plain sight of the commentating seats. |
| 112 konami kitora uniforms |
Q: Why did Konami and Kitora have different uniforms, despite the attending the same school? A: Because Konami is in high school. Kitora will get the same uniform when she enters the High school division. |
| 113 sailor fuku |
Q: The boy’s uniform for the normal high school is a gakuran, right? Is the girl’s sailor fuku? A: It’s sailor fuku. White short sleeves in summer, navy long sleeves in winter, white long sleeves in spring and autumn. |
| 114 osamom and kazama |
Q: What was going through Kazama's mind when Mikumo's mom mistook him for a middle-schooler. A: "I thought she was his older sister so we're even." |
| 115 hyuse pig |
Q: You had a character whose name means ‘pig’ in your last work (Schwein), and in this one Hyuse means ‘pig’ too. Is there some kind of meaning behind this? A: There isn’t really any meaning, but since the author likes pork cutlets he might be subconsciously giving the title of ‘pig’ to characters. |
| 116 rank war commentary |
Q: What are the criteria used to choose who does the Play-by-play and the commentary for Rank Wars? A: It seems Play-by-play are mostly those who have A-Rank experience, but sometimes B-Rank captains are called up too. Anyone can be a commentator as long as they can talk, and honestly it doesn’t have to be an Operator but because you need to operate equipment a lot are Operators. There have been times when the person doing the Play-by-play was a combatant or an Engineer. |
| 117 kako scorpion |
Q: Kako doesn’t have a Gunner Trigger on her main Trigger side, so why is she a Shooter? A: This comes from BBF. Thank you for reading. The positions are based on the equipped Trigger with the most solo points (except All-Rounders). Kako's Hound (Custom) that she equips in her sub has the highest solo points, and the Scorpion she equips in her main hasn’t reached 6,000 points yet, so she’s a Shooter. It looks like she wants to increase her Scorpion to over 6,000 points and become an All-Rounder. In the Galopoula Battle, it seems she equipped Hound (Custom) in her main too in preparation for a firefight. |
| 118 vorvoros |
Q: Can Enedora’s ‘Vorvoros’ make things like just his hand from a distance? A: It seems possible, but it seems he can’t make precise movements. But it’d likely be interesting if he could move it. |
| 119 mira portal pop |
Q: If Mira closes one of her portals around an object, would the object cut in two? Or would the portal just be unable to close. A: No cutting, The object would just be forced out of the portal, like "pop". If the portals were capable of cutting thing and people in two, there would've already been a number of unfortunate accidents. |
| 120 alektor shape |
Q: Can Hyrein’s ‘Alektor’ create bullets in the shape of humans? A: It doesn’t seem like there are bullets of mammals that don’t reproduce through ‘eggs’, but he was using things that looked like jellyfish which goes planula larva -> polyp strobilation, so maybe he can. |
| 121 alektor healing |
Q: Can Alektor’s ability to take in trion from surrounding cubes and heal the user be used on other people’s Trion Bodies? A: He didn't do it for Mira, so it seems it can’t. |
| 122 Licenses |
Q: Is there anyone of 18 and above who has a driver’s licence for a car or a bike? A: Aside from Reiji who has already driven in the story, it seems Fuyushima, Azuma, Suwa, Tsutsumi, Kako, and Kakizaki have normal driver’s licenses. The top brass and Sawamura have licenses too. Tachikawa doesn’t as you might expect. Zoe has a motorbike license, and Kage and Tōma have motorized bicycle licenses (two wheelers under 50cc, Scooters, mopeds etc). It seems Arafune and Hokari want motorbike licenses too. |
| 123 Konami Rank Wars |
Q: Konami is the No. 3 Attacker, does this mean she shows up in the Solo Rank Wars? And in that case what Triggers does she use? A: Studying came first for Konami up until the end of her middle school years so she didn’t do any Solo Rank Wars then, and only participated in the period from her middle school graduation and part way through her first year of high school. Back then, in that period, Jin started using Fūjin and Tachikawa had kind of lost his motivation, so Konami sharpened her blades against those like Kazama to reach all the way to No. 1 Attacker. After that, along with Tamakoma’s separation, she took a step back from Rank Wars, but her solo points have only been surpassed by Tachikawa and Kazama so she’s still No. 3 Attacker. Her Triggers at the time were dual-wielded Kogetsu (fairly short). |
| 124 Clothes |
Q: Can the things on a trion body like the clothes you’re wearing or shoes be taken off? A: You can set it to can be taken off or can’t be. The composition can be simpler if set to can’t be taken off, so that can save trion cost. Border’s on-duty combat bodies are generally made so you can only take off the outerwear. |
| 125 jin SE solo match |
Q: Does Jin use his Side Effect in solo matches? If he does, then what is the cause when he loses? A: It seems he uses it against A-rank agents. He used it actively in his past matches with Tachikawa too. A common case of him losing has him getting absorbed in reading the future and neglecting the present as the main factor. |
| 126 Hound Kanji |
Q: Up to the Large Scale Invasion Arc, Hound was written with the kanji for "Guided Bullet", but from rank wars it’s written with the kanji for "Tracking Bullet"; why is this? A: "Detection guidance" which chase trion responses is written "Guided Bullet", and "Visual Guidance" which locks on to the target with line of sight is written "Visual Guidance", but there are quite a few mistakes here and there so don’t worry about it. |
| 127 chika spider |
Q: What would happen if Chika used Spider? Could she make a giant spider web all at once? A: She could bust out one hundred times as many wires as Osamu in one go, but they'd be so dense they'd immobilize her, and they'd end up stabbing her and her allies. |
| 128 kage mask teeth |
Q: Does Kageura wear a mask in order to hide his sharp spiky teeth? A: There's that, yes, but it's also to cover up more skin, which keeps his side effect from taking too much of a toll on him. |
| 129 why taichi |
Q: Why would anyone ever recruit Taichi Betsuyaku? A: For his youth, his decent Trion levels, his excitability and his dazzling eyes. |
| 130 tsuji bro names |
Q: Please tell me Tsuji's brothers' names. A: His older brother is Ryōtarō (遼太郎 ?), and his younger brother is Sōhei (奏平 ?). |
| 131 tsuji train |
Q: If Tsuji is so awkward with women, why didn't he go to an all-boys school? A: Because he needed to train his heart to cope. |
| 132 suwa BT |
Q: When will Suwa get a Black Trigger? A: Who knows? The future is vast and limitless. |
| 133 what trapper |
Q: What do Trappers do, exactly? Do they forgo weapons altogether and just set traps? A: Yes, they're dedicated to traps. The Switchbox trigger used by Trappers is not only tough to use, but it consumes a huge amount of Trion, so for the most part, Trappers don't equip ordinary attacking triggers. |
| 134 trion gland removal |
Q: If someone tries removing the trion gland from a body, wouldn't they run into a wall of meat and bone? Is it possible to rip out the trion gland without killing the subject? A: It's believed to be impossible with current technology. But surgically removing Black triggers might be possible? |
| 135 tamakoma1 triggers |
Q: Can other people not use Tamakoma First's triggers? A: Sure, they can, but Tamakoma's triggers are advanced enough to be hard to handle for the inexperienced. That said, Arashiyama could use Geist, Nasu could use Axe, and Iko could use Full Arms. |
| 136 rinji and nino |
Q: Half a year before the story started, Rinji was 20 years old, but was he in the same grade as Ninomiya? Or the same grade as Kazama? A: Same grade as Ninomiya. Maybe they kept passing by and missing each other in high school and college? |
| 137 iko and oji galo |
Q: What were Ikoma Squad and Ōji Squad doing when Galopoula showed up? I guess they were off duty? A: In Chapter 124, when Shinoda said, "Leave one squad in the West and one in the South," that was those two. |
| 138 Nickname |
Q: Of all the nicknames Ōji has given people, what are his top three? A: He doesn't think too hard about them. He just sort of comes up with them in a very Ōji-esque way. Two that have become popular are "Mikamika" and "Pokari," and the one that's spread the least is "Jackson" for Wakamura. |
| 139 oji nicknames |
Q: What do the other agents think about Ōji's nicknames for people? A: "As long as we can figure out who he's talking about, it's whatever." Except in the case of Wakamura. |
| 140 which gifts |
Q: What sort of gifts are you happy to receive? And which ones, not so much? A: When I was hospitalized, I hated the flavorless rice gruel, so I got a lot of use out of the bottled seafood preserves sent to me by fans (with hospital permission, of course). There's no gift I wasn't happy to receive, though the editorial staff wouldn't let me eat homemade food from fans, as a rule. |
| 141 rank in border |
Q: During the Galopoula attack, Kuruma mentioned how leaders are usually determined by rank or age, but are there more formalized military ranks for individuals in Border (like sergeant, colonel, etc.)? A: Since the organization is still pretty small, different agents' duties don't differ that much. Besides Commander, HQ Director, Branch Director, and squad captains, there are no individual ranks. Also, because Border is a civilian organization, they're wary about pushback from the government and populace in general if they were to implement more of a military-style hierarchy. |
| 142 internal comms |
Q: Does the Internal communicator function transmit all of one's thoughts? Or just the thoughts that one wants to broadcast? A: The latter. It won't transmit unless you have a recipient in mind and put those thoughts into clear words. |
| 143 twin snipe |
Q: Satori's ultimate move isn't "Double Snipe," but rather "Twin Snipe". Any special reason for that name? A: Satori once played a video game that had a weapon called "Twin Cannon," and that's where he got the name.. |
| 144 why satoken sniper |
Q: Please tell me why Satori chose to be a sniper. A: So that he could help people over the widest range possible. |
| 145 siblings |
Q: Are there any other siblings within Border other than the Kazama brothers? A: In terms of characters who've appeared already, there's Tsukimi's little sister and Zoe's little brother, both of whom are in Yoshizato Squad (B-Rank). |
| 146 Teleporter Goggles |
Q: Why do so few agents choose to wield Teleporter? Is there some downside to using it, like not being able to use one's Triggers within a certain range immediately after, or one's body freezing up? If not, that seems like an overpowered Trigger. Also, why didn't Arashiyama Squad wear goggles during the scramble for the Black Trigger? Concealing their lines of sight would've been a big advantage. Is it because that was their first time using Teleporter in a real battle? Or was it because they were purposely getting Tōma to shoot? If there's no downside beside the line-of-sight thing, then I think Teleporter is way too powerful. A: Ah, you're a Teleporter diehard. Thank you for the question(s). Given Izumi's shock when Arashiyama used Teleporter in Volume 4, it's safe-ish to assume that was his first time using it. Kako Squad–the first Teleporter users–had a reason for not wearing goggles (which could hide one's line of sight), but if Arashiyama had worn goggles after his first use of Teleporter revealed the trick, I bet that would've made him really strong. I also tend to think that Teleporter is ridiculously powerful, but there are downsides, and learning to use it properly takes a high level of skill. I'm hoping to elaborate on that with future battle scenes involving Kako Squad, so please be patient. |
| 147 Yuma SE |
Q: Can Yuma's side effect help him detect lies in writing too? Like in books or text messages? Will Yuma's side effect pick up on lies that the speaker doesn't even realize are lies? How does Yuma's side effect tell him when something is a lie? (Does he hear the person speaking in slow motion, or does he get prickling tingles like Kage?) A: When a person is lying, Yuma's side effect makes it look like black smoke is pouring out of their mouth. The subtle changes in the liar's voice transform into a visual cue that helps Yuma see through the lie. So no, I don't think his side effect would work if the person didn't know they were lying or if he were reading the lie in a text. |
| 148 scorpion strong |
Q: At the start of Round 7 (Chapter 167), Kage used Scorpion to swing across a big gap. Is Scorpion really strong enough to carry the weight of the person who's manipulating the blade's shape? A: Weapons made of Trion are super-strong, even for non-attacking purposes. Definitely sturdy enough to do the job. |
| 149 map makers |
Q: The engineers who created the Round 7 map are incredible. Do they replicate every little detail of the areas of Mikado City right down to the wiring? A: They're using technology that scans the real-life buildings and components of the city and replicates them all in the virtual space. For that night map, the engineers took the time and effort to faithfully upgrade the data on the electrical system. |
| 150 sniper bullets |
Q: Can a Sniper Trigger shoot anything besides Asteroid or Lead Bullet? A: Strictly speaking, a sniper's "bullets" aren't Asteroids, but sure–I bet they could make a special request to the engineers. However, the result would have reduced power, speed, and range, making the shots easier to block. It might be fun to have them shooting Viper shots, but nailing a far-off target would be pretty difficult. |
| 151 torimaru |
Q: Who came up with the "Torimaru" nickname? A: It started up as a slip of the tongue by Tachikawa, but it seems as though Konami jumped all over that and spread it around. These days, Tachikawa calls him by his given name, "Kyōsuke" with a straight face, accepting no blame. |
| 152 hyuse bday |
Q: Please tell us Hyuse's birthday. A: Translated to a date understood by our world, it would be June 12. His zodiac sign is Lepus. |
| 153 yuma BT seals |
Q: Did Yūma's Black Trigger have no seals initially? Please let us know if there were any standard seals? A: He started with Seven altogether, including Bound, Boost, Shield, Chain, and Echo. |
| 154 kouscudo |
Q: When the Escudo popped out of Murakami's body, did it feel heavy to him like a Lead Bullet? Or did it just impede his movement because of the bulk? A: I think it's got to be lighter than a Lead Bullet. But since it's such a stiff hindrance, one could use that move to really annoy people. |
| 155 edgy oji |
Q: Is Ōji at an ordinary school because he's not great at schoolwork? A: Ōji used to have much more of an edge to him, so it's possible he bungled the interview and failed to get into the school of his choice. I think his grades are decent enough. |
| 156 yuba lol |
Q: When Ōji mentioned how it was the first time his squad got ahead of Yuba Squad, Yuba's face was covered by the speech bubble! How did he react to that line from Ōji? A: He LOL'd, maybe? I guess. |
| 157 tokki and satoken |
Q: Tokieda and Satori joined Border at the same time, but were they friends before that? Or did they become friends after joining up? A: They'd known of each other since elementary school, but it wasn't until middle school that they ended up being in the same homeroom class and became friends. Then they joined Border together. |
| 158 yoneya dogbreed |
Q: What's the breed of dog at Yōsuke's house? A: Black Shiba Inu. It's technically Yoneya's grandma's dog. |
| 159 izumi cat person |
Q: Is Izumi a dog person or a cat person? A: His vibe screams "cat person". |
| 160 tachi scout izumi |
Q: When Tachikawa Squad was being formed, did Tachikawa scout Izumi? Or did Izumi ask to join? A: Tachikawa really wanted to battle the previous iteration of Azuma Squad, so recruiting Torimaru and Kunichika was just a pretext for that. The old Azuma Squad disbanded shortly after that. |
| 161 hanzakis sib names |
Q: What are the names of Hanzaki's siblings? A: The older brother is Takato (貴斗 ?). The older sister is Minato (湊 ?) |
| 162 izumi sis name |
Q: Please tell us Izumi's older sister's name and age. A: It's Eiko (映子 ?), and she's 23 years old. |
| 163 hyuse trion sleep |
Q: When Hyuse is using his Trion Body (without horns), does he sleep facing up? A: He's attempted it when he had Trion to spare, but before he knew it, he had flipped facedown again. Old habits die hard. |
| 164 LB Meteor |
Q: What happens when you combine Meteor and Lead Bullet? A: I think it would put a thin layer of weight on the surface that was exposed to the blast. It seems to fall off if you move. |
| 165 kazama and suwa |
Q: In the Volume 23 bonus content, Suwa's comment about Kazama was, Depressing, and nasty personality. Did he come away with that impression after a particular incident? A: No specific incident - they just don't get along. |
| 166 nino and kage arank |
Q: After falling to B-Rank, did Ninomiya Squad and Kageura Squad challenge and lose to A-Rank Squads during the Rank Wars in October? Is that why they've remained B-Rank? A: After dropping down in the ranks, they couldn't fight for a chance at promotion for a set period of time as a penalty. Something like that. |
| 167 away test quitter |
Q: If a single agent decided to quit in the middle of the Sealed Environment Phase of the test, would their whole squad be disqualified? A: According to the rules of Phase 1, no—the team would not be disqualified. They would just continue the test with fewer people. Still, that would leave them unable to gain as many points as other squads, so it would be mighty difficult to reach the top of the test rankings. |
| 168 eyelashes |
Q: Most of the female characters have three distinct eyelashes over each eye, so why does Ui only have two? A: The leading theory is that Ui donated a pair of lashes to Fumika Teruya. |
| 169 bt trion amount |
Q: Why does a Trion user's total trion increase when a Black Trigger is activated? A: The current theory is that the Black Trigger's creator's own Trion level is added on top of the user's Trion level. It appears that the Trion output is even higher than the creator's when they were alive, perhaps because creating a Black Trigger involves pouring in and condensing every last drop of one's own Trion. |
| 170 nasu friends |
Q: Who does Nasu get along with besides the members of her own squad? A: In terms of boys, she gets along with her cousin Narasaka, Kodera (Narasaka's mentee), Zoe...for some reason, and Utagawa (who's friendly with Kumagai) Among the ladies, she's on good terms with the girls who attended Seirin Girls' Academy for high school, including Teruya, Konami, and An Kobayakawa, and Hanao (Tsukimi's little sister). And other film buffs, like Risa Maki. |
| 171 akane bro |
Q: Could you please tell us the name of Akane's older brother! And, did they manage to confess to Kumagai before they moved away? A: His name is Shōma (祥真 ?). I don't think he managed to confess. If he had, the farewell scene with Nasu Squad would have been awkward. |
| 172 hato shot who |
Q: Hatohara-san once shot someone and fell ill, who did they shoot? A: She involuntary shot Utagawa while he was using Chameleon. After that, she practiced so she could snipe while also paying attention to the Radar. |
| 173 ren azuma op |
Q: Who was the Operator of Old Azuma Squad (Ninomiya/Kako/Miwa)? A: It's Tsukimi. |
| 174 izumi vs nino |
Q: I heard that Izumi was the only one who could challenge Ninomiya. If they fought, would his master, Izumi, win? I would like to know the winning percentage! A: I think Ninomiya would win about 60% of the time in a one-on-one match. In a team fight, Tachikawa Squad would win by a wide margin, in addition there were many occasions when Izumi beat Ninomiya. |
| 175 sayoko why op |
Q: Did Shiki-san of Nasu Squad become an operator because she is not good with men? A: I think it's because she's not good at jumping and running. |
| 176 arafune vs raijinmaru |
Q: Was Raijinmaru present when Yōtarō was born? A: Raijinmaru was not born until after Ruka and her family had defected to Meeden, which is a little later than Yōtarō's birth. |
| 177 raijinmaru old |
Q: Was Raijinmaru present when Yōtarō was born? A: Raijinmaru was not born until after Ruka and her family had defected to Meeden, which is a little later than Yōtarō's birth. |
| 178 Top3 |
Q: I would like to know the rankings of the Gunners and Shooters like we do with the Attackers and Snipers. A: From what I remember, The top 3 Shooters, from the top, are Ninomiya, Izumi, and Kako. Top 3 Gunners are Kazuma, Yuba, and Katagiri Top 3 All-Rounders are Reiji, Arashiyama, and Miwa. |
| 179 tono hair |
Q: Why does the gentle and friendly Tonooka have a punk haircut? A: "Tono is plain and is hard to find (in rank wars)" Koala's sigh of defeat was taken seriously by Nono "He's not plain, he's skilled!" And she made Tono flashy, which was very well received and became the norm. |
| 180 galo bailout |
Q: Was the "Bailout" developed by Galopoula created from scratch? A: It was developed after receiving information on Meeden from Afto, but the gate technology was already developed before. Like Border's Bailout, it eats up a lot of Trion just to set it up and it seems to be unpopular with Reghi and some others. |
| 181 og azuma yakiniku |
Q: What's Miwa's, Ninomiya-san's and Kako-san's favorite part of the Yakiniku? A: Miwa mainly likes the skirt meat and ribs, but is generally okay with anything, Ninomiya likes the shoulder loin and hip meat, and Kako-san likes the tongue and rump. Luxurious. |
| 182 cube shapes |
Q: Why do Shooter cubes have different shapes like squares and spheres? A: Probably because they want to control the number and power of the bullets in detail. It seems to be a very advanced technique to divide the cube into shapes other than more cubes. Izumi could likely do it too, but he isn't so particular about the shape. |
| 183 fav dino |
Q: What's Tsuji's favorite dinosaur? There was something that looked like a Plesiosaur in Ninomiya squad's strategy room, does he like Paleontology other than dinosaurs? A: He likes the Allosaurus the most. He also likes marine reptiles such as the Elasmosaurus and the Sarcosuchus. |
| 184 teleporter blind |
Q: Can you use Teleporter even if there are obstacles between you and the location you want to move to? A: No, it can't be used if there is no line of sight to your destination, so it can't be used if there is an obstacle, if your eyes are blocked or if there is a smoke screen. |
| 185 horns hurt |
Q: Does it hurt if you pull or push on Hyuse's horns? A: The area of the base of the horns and his head shouldn't hurt much, but if you move them around a lot it will hurt his neck. |
| 186 no3 sniper |
Q: Who's ranked third among Snipers (I'm guessing Azuma). A: After consulting my documents, yes it's Azuma. |
| 187 few shooters |
Q: Why are there relatively few Shooters? A: Ninomiya, Izumi, and Kako are the Top 3 Shooters, and in their own ways, each is pretty hard to emulate. Also becuase Shooters can't just modify and improve their performance via external tools like guns. |
| 188 fastest arank |
Q: Who holds the record for reaching A-Rank the fastest, after joining Border? A: It's hard to give a perfect answer, since the exact requirements for A-Rank changed over time, as more and more people joined the cause. But I have a feeling the title of fastest would go to either Narasaka, Utagawa, or Kikuchihara. Midorikawa, Yuzuru and Kuroe also probably pretty quick about it. If you include Operators, Hyami is included. |
| 189 amo bt |
Q: From whom did Amō get his Black Trigger? A: An Old Border member named Tetsuya Umesaki gave Amō the Black Trigger that suits him so well. Note that Amō is a Meeden native (and resident of Mikado City). |
| 190 inukai sisters |
Q: What are the names of Inukai's two older sisters, and how old are they? A: Kanade (奏 ?) (eldest) is 23. Akari (明理 ?) (second oldest) is 21. |
| 191 osamu hot |
Q: Do Osamu's good looks get a boost when he takes off his glasses? A: Yes, to some extent. But most people won't even recognize him without his glasses. |
| 192 mizu and kon |
Q: In Chapter 222, Mizukami and Kon get along swimmingly. Do they have any history, beyond just being in the same grade? A: I don't know about "swimmingly," but since they were both so academically talented, the school often lumped them together in various ways. |
| 193 yuu kouhai |
Q: Kunichika doesn't use any honorifics (in Japanese) when addressing Konami, Kitora and Katori by their last name. Is that because she's older than them? or is there some other criteria involved? A: Maybe it's a defensive instinct? It's more that she drops the honorific with people she thinks are smarter than herself, rather than anything to do with age. She only uses -chan or sometimes -sama with Kon, who's helped her with homework at times. |
| 194 jin SE on off |
Q: How does Jin's Side Effect manifest for him? What form does it take? And can he turn it on and off? A: It's as if a new window pops open within his field of view (in his mind). There's no off switch, but he can make a conscious effort to ignore it. |
| 195 talented ppl |
Q: Do Ninomiya and Kako get along, since they both tend to like talented people? A: Ninomiya seeks out talented as a way to add chess pieces to his squad, while Kako wants the talented individuals she discovers to have a chance to shine on their own merits. So no, they don't necessarily see eye to eye. |
| 196 geist off |
Q: Once Karasuma's Geist is turned on, is it possible to turn it off? Is it the same for Reiji's Full Arms? A: Geist cannot be deactivated once it is activated. Full Arms can be deactivated, but since more than three triggers are used at the same time, the trion consumption will be greater than usual. |
| 197 toma shot |
Q: In Chapter 118, who was number 338 that Tōma shot during the stealth and target acquisition training? A: I may have already answered this, but it was either Oki or Tonooka. Tonooka would have been ranked 3rd in that training, so if he managed to escape Tōma, number 338 would have been Oki. |
| 198 yotaro heavy |
Q: Do you think that Raijinmaru carrying Yōtarō is heavy? Also, how does Yōtarō feel about its comfort? A: Raijinmaru looks strong, so I think she is fine with it. I think Yōtarō feels it's luxurious and exclusive, he likes the feel of wind. |
| 199 suzunari from |
Q: I would like to know from where each member of Suzunari First was scouted from. A: Kon: Chiba prefecture Taichi: Kōchi prefecture Kō: Ehime prefecture believe it was. |
| 200 tsuji names |
Q: Tsuji seems to refer to guys younger than him with "-kun", so why does he call Urushima by just his last name? A: I think it's because of his cockiness and lack of modesty toward the other party. He also calls Yuiga, Satori, Hanzaki and Midorikawa simply by their last name, and calls Koarai "Koala". Surprisingly, he calls Minamisawa "Kai-kun". |
| 201 yoneya first name |
Q: When Yōsuke introduced himself, he said "Yōsuke is fine", but why don't Izumi and Osamu call him by his first name? A: Osamu probably doesn't because he feels uncomfortable calling his seniors by their first names. Izumi probably doesn't because he doesn't want to be called by his first name by him. |
| 202 izumi yuu |
Q: Why does Izumi call Kunichika by her first name? A. Maybe because he wants her to call him by his. |
| 203 yumas mom |
Q: Regarding Yūma's mother, can we get even just a little bit of info about her? A: Yūgo told Yūma "if I die, go to Border" instead of saying "rely on your mother" or "go meet your mother", so I think she has already passed away. The traits Yūma inherited from his mother are bold decision-making, expression of will through action, and lack of whining. |
| 204 where lil replica |
Q: Where is the chibi-Replica left behind in this world currently located? Does Yūma keep it on his person, is it lovingly displayed in his room, is it carefully stored away, or is it perhaps being kept somewhere for the sake of research...... Please tell us! A: Currently, it is being kept in the R&D department at HQ for further analysis. If Yūma were to go on the away mission, he would probably bring it with him during that time. |
| 205 school life yuma |
Q: We haven't gotten many opportunities to see their school life recently, but what sort of position is Yūma in at school? Is he treated like a lovable mascot, does he have fans/closeted fans due to his overwhelming athletic abilities and inner good-guy vibes getting exposed, or does he purposely clown around and act like a weird guy? A: At first he was in a "returnee kid that's easy to talk to" kind of position, but after he joined Border he became a respected being and is now known as a "capable guy that's easy to talk to". |
| 206 nino ema hato talk |
Q: Regarding the Sealed Environment Phase, I'm very very curious about what's going to happen next. I would love to hear about any highlights or parts to look forward to, please...! A: There are many developments that I hope to draw in the future, but it's likely I will get to draw these 3: • "Ninomiya and Yuzuru's stiff Hatohara Talk" • "Self-Proclaimed Canadian's Consultation Room" • "Osamu and something bug-like" |
| 207 first words |
Q: What were Osamu's first words? (as words with meaning, not just babbling) A: Osamu was the type of child who started speaking late, but his first words were most likely nouns such as "father", "mother", "glasses". He may have also caused trouble for his mother by learning phrases such as "That's true, but......" by imitating his father. |
| 208 ashi friends |
Q: Are there any characters that Ashihara-sensei would/wouldn't get along well with? A: Raizō, Kashio, Taichi, Hanzaki, Fuyushima-san, etc. are the ones I might get along well with. The guarded, cool-type characters would be hard to get along with, like Ninomiya, Miwa, Risa Maki. Among the cool-types, I'm starting to think I could get along pretty well with Hyuse. |
| 209 rice addons |
Q: Please tell us Chika's favorite accompaniments to rice! A: She is the type who has no trouble consuming rice by itself, but it seems she is able to eat endlessly if there's cod roe or salmon flakes. |
| 210 hyuse escudo |
Q: Hyuse called Escudo "the shield Trigger that Torimaru used", but in truth, did he decide to employ it based on his experience when Jin used it against him? A: I think that's probably true. He may have not wanted to phrase his request as "the shield trigger that Jin used to sandwich me". |
| 211 torimaru ikoma senku |
Q: Hyuse told Karasuma to "do Ikoma's Senkū next, you can do it", but did he actually somewhat believe that he could do it? A: I think he was thinking half "he truly can do it" and half "he seems like he would somehow try to do it if asked". Torimaru is generous. |
| 212 liar SE |
Q: What did Yūma think of his father's Side Effect? A: Until he inherited it, he thought it "sounds convenient.". |
| 213 liar SE sick |
Q: If Yūma lies, does it make him sick cause of his Side Effect? A: I don't think so, but when he looks in the mirror, maybe he'll see black smoke coming out of his own mouth? |
| 214 Yuma Height |
Q: If Yūma were able to grow, how tall would he be? A: I can't imagine Yuma being taller, but since Yugo, his father, seemed to be rather tall, he probably would have been too. About 175cm maybe? |
| 215 miwa friends |
Q: Does Miwa-kun have any friends in Border outside Miwa Squad? Does he talk to Nire-san and Miura-kun who are in his class? A: He probably doesn't think they are close, but he does talk to Hikari and Muller at school. At HQ he talks to Saeki, Satomi, Momozono, Ōji, Kashio, and Kotaro quite often. |
| 216 dog walks forced |
Q: At the end of Volume 20 you mentioned Arashiyama "forces Jin to go on dog walks with him," do you mean by going over to Tamakoma and picking him up? A: Yes, if Jin doesn't show up at the meeting place he does that, but most of the time, Jin does show up by himself. |
| 217 tachisquad tidy |
Q: Who is the worst at cleaning in Tachikawa Squad? Was Torimaru bad at cleaning too back in the old Tachikawa Squad? A: Torimaru was the only one who had tidying up skills, it's been sad since he left. Tachikawa is the least tidy of the bunch, Kunichika only tidies up game related stuff. |
| 218 kako recruited |
Q: Other than Yūma, who else has been scouted by Kako? A: She greedily recruited Konami, Kage, Kitora, and others. Kazama and Kinuta have also been targets. No rules. |
| 219 old fighters |
Q: Old man Viza and Captain Gatlin are still fighting on the front lines despite their advanced age. In the neighborhood, is it normal for people in their 30s or 40s or older to keep fighting as long as they continue to use their Trion gland? A: Viza is a rather rare case, but it is common for people in their 30s and 40s to still be on the front line. |
| 220 katoptron |
Q: When Gatlin, Rata and Wen Sō were disguised as Idras was it thanks to Servitora (Straw soldiers)? Is Servitora a different trigger as it seems to set up somewhere else? A: It's a trigger called Katoptron (被り物, Katoputoron Lit. Headdress ?) that reads the shape of nearby objects or people and transforms your and your allies' Trion Bodies into that shape. |
| 221 Better Viper |
Q: Who's the better Viper user, Nasu, who aligns multiple bullets when using Viper, or Izumi, whose bullets are all different? A: Nasu uses her spatial awareness while Izumi uses his intuition/perception to draw trajectories, but because Izumi uses any type of bullet, it seems that Nasu is more famous as a Viper user. |
| 222 Inukai Friend |
Q: What is the relationship between Inukai and Kuroe? When did they become friends? A: After Kuroe beat Inukai, who started practicing using his sub trigger Scorpion, in a solo ranked match, they became friends. |
| 223 Judge Schedule |
Q: Do the A-Rank members who are judging the away mission selection test also stay overnight? A: Yes, stay overnight in borrowed rooms at HQ. They work 8 hour shifts, each with an 8 hour break in between judging, defense duty and rest. It's quite similar to a black company. |
| 224 Arashiyama Squad Feeling |
Q: How did Arashiyama and the others feel about Kakizaki leaving the squad 2 years ago? A: Satori was genuinely disappointed. Tokki and Ayatsuji were also disappointed but thought 'maybe it's better this way'. Arashiyama thought and said "we'll be rivals from now on". |
| 225 RokuHS |
Q: Were all the students at prep high school from the affiliated middle school? (Are there any from outside it?) A: About 20-30% are from outside it. I think Tsuji and some others took the entrance exam from public middle schools. |
| 226 Miwa Squad Formation |
Q: How did the current Miwa Squad form after the original Azuma Squad disbanded? A: Tsukimi, who was worried about Miwa, followed after him and joined alongside Yoneya, who was still going solo at the time. They fought other squads for a while for a Sniper (Azuma's role) and got Narasaka. Kodera probably joined right after they made it to A-Rank. |
| 227 Narasaka Pupil |
Q: Who was Narasaka's first pupil, Kodera or Akane? A: They enlisted at the same time, but Kodera became an official combatant earlier than Akane, so he was probably first. |
| 228 Osamu Friends |
Q: Does Osamu make any friends in Border? A: Outside of Tamakoma, he seems to be good friends with Kikuchihara, Yuiga and Kitora. I think. |
| 229 Young Konami |
Q: Why was Konami in Old Border when she was so young? A: Probably because she had a near encounter with people from the neighborhood when she was still small. |
| 230 Shocked Info |
Q: Do you have any scenes that you feel "I didn't think this piece would be so exciting OR I didn't think I would get into it"? A: I am often surprised when my manager reports information that raises eyebrows, such as "Lying Broccoli" trending or "Tetsuji Arafune" merchandise expanding. However, in the manga, there is a scene in Volume 2, Chapter 15 where Osamu tells Chika, "He (Yuma) may be a Neighbor, but he's my friend", From that chapter onwards, the popularity of the magazine's survey was visibly stable, which made me think that the readers had come to like Yuma more than the author had expected. Another scene that comes to mind is Volume 5, chapters 36 and 37, where Osamu has a mock battle with Kazama. The popularity of the survey, which had been stable since chapter 15, became even higher from this point on! I was surprised. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the readers and Kazama! There are many other things that happened, but I can't write them all down! |
| 231 Name Origin |
Q: Is there an origin for the name of each character? Kuga (sky), Mikumo (cloud), and Amatori (rain) are associated with the sky/weather... How do you come up with the names? A: for the family name, I choose one that is relatively my own taste and not too specific. for the first name, I think vaguely about what kind of feelings the character's parents put into the name. I think it would be easier for readers to remember if I had names like "Sky, Cloud, Rain," but if I start to get hung up on that, I will spend endless time on it (I will want to have them all), Other than those three, I'm not that conscious about it. A few i am conscious of are Yoko, and Hana from Katori Squad, Kage and Hikari from Kageura Squad, Kinuta and Netsuki. I prepare a lot of surnames and first names separately, and then look for a good-sounding combination. The combination is quite important because I often create the image of a character from their name. Incidentally, before the series was published, Osamu and Yuma's last names were reversed. In the end, we switched them because the image didn't fit, but if they had been "Yuma Mikumo" and "Osamu Kuga," they might have turned out to be different characters from what they are now. |
| 232 Battle Scenes |
Q: How do you construct the battle scenes in your mind? I am always excited and thrilled by the unpredictable battle scenes. At the same time, I wonder what goes on in Ashihara-sensei's head. A: The way of constructing the battle scene changes depending on whether it is a battle that is settled one by one, such as a rank war, or a battle in which the situation moves as a series of events, such as a large-scale invasion. In rank wars, the characters are basically left to their own devices, so their placement when they are first transferred to the map will largely determine their subsequent development. Since it is a three-way or four-way battle, it is easy to create rough developments and showcases that transcend differences in ability, and the members of the play-by-play and commentary team follow up on the information, making it easy for the author to do so. For invasions like Aftokrator's large scale invasion, or the Galopoula Defense Mission, I have a certain idea of what is going to happen and decide on checkpoints in advance, praying that the characters will pass through them as much as possible, and leave it up to them. It is more difficult than in rank wars because things don't always go according to plan, Jin's "foresight" can make the other characters change their moves, which makes me think, "Wow, he's really good! I am grateful for that, and try my best to make it to the next stage of the game. In fact, during the serialization of the large-scale invasion, Jin and Replica helped me a lot. And Enedora, too. In both cases, rather than just thinking about it in my head, I think it is important to organize the "characters" and "actual situation" before the battle starts, and to arrange them in a way that shows and events are likely to occur. |
| 233 Culture Shock |
Q: What was the biggest culture shock for Hyuse, who grew up in Aftokrator, when he came to Tamakoma? A: In the Neighborhood, it is customary for POWs to have to give trion for food, so I think he was surprised to find that food was served for free at the Tamakoma branch. I also think he was shocked to see a child riding a dog (capybara). He is like an elite soldier that he doesn't show his shock on his face. |
| 234 Raizo Team |
Q: Before he became an Engineer, who was Terashima in a squad with? Was he the captain? A: Before Raizo became an engineer, team combat wasn't all that popular, so Raizo did training and defense duty solo. If he had continued to be a combatant, it's possible he would have teamed up with Kazama or Suwa. |
| 235 Enedora Brain |
Q: Was the entire brain transferred into Enedora's horns? A: The personality and memory information that were backed up in the horns are now just connected to the Rad, so there is no brain anymore. The fact that Enedorad can think and talk is rather new technology based on the analysis data from (the tiny) Replica and is rather experimental. |
| 236 WhySawamura |
Q: Why did Sawamura become the assistant director? A: The plan was to appoint either Azuma or Sawamura, and as Azuma declined, Sawamura was chosen. |
| 237 Makiwhacker |
Q: Katagiri said that Maki is a “rubble-rouser”, did something happen? A: Maybe he witnessed a scene where Fuyushima's opinion was whacked aside. |
| 238 Tachi Dual |
Q: When did Tachikawa start using 2 swords? A: The man himself says "I was born dual wielding". |
| 239 Kuruma Border |
Q: Why did Kuruma join Border? A: When Kuruma's parents decided to support Border, he wondered if there was anything he could do on the field, and so he joined. |
| 240 Ko SE |
Q: Does Murakami learn every time he goes to sleep? I'm worried it will tire him. A: It seems that when he sleeps he usually spends some of it without his Side Effect activating, so I think he'll be fine. |
| 241 Yuiga DD |
Q: Does Yuiga participate in defense duty? A: He used to skip it in the past, but now, under Izumi's guidance, he is participating properly. Izumi is keeping a good eye on Yuiga. |
| 242 Osamu W |
Q: How many wins does Osamu have against Yuiga now? A: Currently, it's 81 wins and 196 losses. (Note: in Chapter 110 it was 48 wins and 152 losses). |
| 243 Phantom Hag |
Q: In chapter 123, why did Kage call Kako "Phantom hag"? And doesn't Kako get angry at it? A: Back in A-Rank, Kage was pretty screwed over by Kako, so he calls her that since he is pissed off by her fighting style. Kako doesn't get angry because she makes light of Kage. |
| 244 Toki Cat |
Q: What are the birthdays of Tokieda's cats? And what do they like? A: I don't know their exact birthdays as they are both shelter cats, but Arthur likes to cat kick cushions and stuffed animals, and Tomio likes watching TV with grandpa. |
| 245 1LDK |
Q: Is the 1LDK design floor plan that was used in the T-shirt voting a single room affiliated with Border? There seems to be no space for a washing machine, is that because there is a seperate laundry room? A: ……… yeah that makes sense! That's probably it, yup. |
| 246 Late SE |
Q: Does a Side Effect ever manifest itself late in life? A:Except for the very rare case of "inheriting it together with a Black Trigger" like with Yūma, there is no record of a clear late manifestation of a Side Effect at that point. It is often the case that a person has lived their life without realizing that they have a Side Effect, and later learn about it. |
| 247 Hyuse Age |
Q: Does Hyuse know that he is the same age as Karasuma? A:He knows, but in Aftokrator, it is "you are on your own after 15," so Hyuse feels like Karasuma, Yūma, Osamu, Usami, Konami, Reiji, and Jin are all about the same. Chika is 14, so she is still treated as younger. |
| 248 Hanzaki Rank |
Q: In the BBF, Hanzaki is somehow the n.5 sniper, having a range and skill of 11, but is he ranked n.5 in the actual rankings? A: Hanzaki isn't really the type of sniper to score, so he's more in the middle of the pack when it comes to the rankings, he's a skilled, energy saving sniper. |
| 249 KatagiriStore |
Q: What store did Katagiri squad stop by to get food on their way back from their defense mission? A: Probably the convenience store located on the first floor of Border HQ. |
| 250 Tamakoma Meal Duty |
Q: How is meal duty at Tamakoma decided? A:The meal duty is rotated on the days when there is no work such as defense duty. Shifts are scheduled every two weeks, and the person on duty checks the refrigerator by evening, and if there isn't enough ingredients, they go to the store or ask someone else to buy it for them. |
| 251 Kazama Brother |
Q: What was the age gap between Kazama and his brother Shin? Were they close as brothers? A: They are about 4 years apart. They seemed to get along well. |
| 252 Kazama San |
Q: When did Osamu and Yūma change from calling Kazama "Senpai" to "San"? Did they have a chance to realize Kazama's age? A: I think that Reiji and Konami pointed it out |
| 253 Izuho Karate |
Q: What's Izuho's rank in karate? A: She's a brown belt (1st Kyuu). She's been doing it for quite a long time, ever since she was a child, but she has not reached her black belt (Early Dan) yet because her dojo master, her father, is very strict and Izuho can be moody and doesn't always concentrate on her training. |
| 254 Ashi Secret Passion |
Q: Do you have a secret passion that is unique to you (whether in your work or in your personal life)! A: In terms of work, I think that every author's work is an collection of their passion, and I hope you can see that passion In terms of my private life, I don't have a specific passion, that being said I don't do social media. The reasons for not doing it are as follows: I am not interested in “sharing my interests”, but I do want to give updates about my current work, I might get carried away and accidentally say something that I don't need to say, and I don't want to have so much fun that it interferes with my main job. Come to think of it, I've never written a review for a mail order site or even a comment on an online video site. I think it's probably a good thing I don't, because I'm the type of person who wastes a lot of time writing even a single sentence. If an account on social media tries to claim it is me, please assume it is a fake. |
| 255 Osamu Wire Origin |
Q: During Season 2, Osamu started using wires. When did you start thinking about having Osamu use that? A: It started around the time of the second large scale invasion. Wire tactics were originally used by Kitora and Reiji, but Kitora has a low amount of trion So I was thinking that in the future, there might be a development where someone would advise Osamu, who has the same weakness. At first, I thought it might be too plain for the main character to use, but I am glad that Yuma made the power of wire tactics more convincing. Kitora is a good person for thinking of strategies for Yuma. Osamu's harassment capabilities is further enhanced. Kitora's good advice was able to make Osamu even stronger. |
| 256 Katori Squad First Name |
Q: Katori Squad calls each other by their given name, but who was the one who started it? A: Katori's older brother is a friend to both Rokurō, and Muller (Miura), in addition to knowing Hana-san. So i think this is a big influence. It was unexpectedly transmitted by Katori's Brother Katori calls anyone she deems as "relatives" by their first name, while Hana-san, for some reason, calls Rokurō "Rokurō-kun". Between all the squads, they are the one with the least amount of "Senior vs. Junior" feeling, which gives them a family-like vibe. Next on the list are, Kageura Squad, Tamakoma Second, and Katagiri Squad. Will there come a day where Katori will call Osamu by his first name? The names of Katori's family are: • Older Brother- Itsuki (樹 ?) • Mother - Akiko (晶子 ?) • Father - Mikiya (幹也 ?) |
| 257 Katori Family |
Q: The names of Katori's family are: • Older Brother- Itsuki (樹 ?) • Mother - Akiko (晶子 ?) • Father - Mikiya (幹也 ?) |
| 258 Do You Like Wakamura |
Q: From your point of view, what do you like about Rokurō Wakamura? for me, I like how he is like a child who works hard while struggling A: I don't know if this counts as a good thing or not, but Rokurō's character and behavior overlapped with mine (the author's) when I was in my early 20's. Personally, I am rooting for him all the way. That being said, there is the possibility that it will be somewhat difficult. Good luck, and work hard Rokurō! We support you, we really do. |
| 259 Ikoma Important Thing |
Q: When it is time to draw "Tatsuhito Ikoma", what is the most important thing to consider? additionally will he do well? A: Outside of battle, I draw with great care and consideration to make sure Ikoma does not look competent. When it comes to drawing Ikoma, I want to make a gap between when he is fighting, and when he isn't. Ikoma is a different, special type of character in comparison to the others, so even if I leave him alone, Ikoma will be just fine. In fact I would like to draw Ikoma, and the liar broccoli, looking straight at the camera whilst going on a rampage.Ikoma is quirky, but he is also easy to move, on top of being a fun character from my point of view. |
| 260 Play Oki Better |
Q: Please me about teach me how to play "Kōji Oki" better When I first started to voice him, i thought Oki had some underhanded trick, and tried to hint at it with his expressions. However, recently, I started to think that he is just a kind, good-looking older brother. So I am worried a misinterpretation which could hinder my future work with him. A: I think you are mostly right about him, being a kind, good-looking older brother, For the time being, I am sure the reason why Oki said "pulling the trigger on a little girl (Chika) is hard" will be explained eventually. so I think it is ok for you to continue acting with a light underhanded tone. Ikoma, and Mizukami are suspicious of Oki's private life. Will there be a time for him to tell us about it? Good luck to my future self. |
| 261 Create Countless Characters |
Q: How do you create the numerous characters in your mind and how do you manage their stories and showcases? Include their upbringing and background. Kakizaki's Voice Actor: I played the role of "Kuniharu Kakizaki", and i feel like Kakizaki, as well as the cast, and setting of "World Trigger" is full of personality I am always impressed by every character's fighting style, which makes full use of the character's personality. Rata's Voice Actor: Even though the number of characters is constantly increasing, I feel that each character is “alive” in the story, which is truly amazing. A: When I draw up a character, and then think about their background and other key details, I still feel like I only know them through my documents, as I let the characters keep on talking, I slowly understand what kind of person they are. Once in a blue moon, when I'm in the middle of drawing, I will think "I didn't know they had this kind of personality!", in these rare cases the current characterization takes priority over the original, and thus the setting is changed. My policy is: rather than managing each scene, and chapter for every character, I let nature take its course, and wait until the timing is right. In fact, there were quite a few chapter that i lost the right moment to depict for this reason, but with my writing style, it would've looked unnatural if I shoved it in. My mind set is, "someday, when the time is right, I'll be able to draw it in a different way". Personally, When telling a story, I prefer not putting so much emphasis on what happened in the past, so I like to both think and draw in the present. Regardless I am overjoyed to hear that you think the characters are "alive"! |
| 262 Share Secrets |
Q: Please tell us some of Kunichika's secrets that you have not yet let out anywhere. Please tell us the secrets of other characters as well, if you have any that you can share with us. A: • Kunichika's official height is 163 cm 163cm(5 ft 4 in), but in reality, she is 161 cm(5 ft 3 in) She says, “I was 163 when I woke up in the morning,” but it seems that she was 161 from the moment she woke up. • Kumagai seemed to have had a period of time when she thought Jin was cool. • Murakami-kun seemed to have had a period when he tried to practice “Ikoma Senku". • Chika's brother Rinji, seems to have been somewhat involved in the reason why she became a person who does not rely on others as much as possible. • The reason why Oki started wearing a visor seems to have been indirectly influenced by Taichi of Suzunari Branch • Mr. Ikoma seems to respect all grasshopper users because he once ran face first into the ground while trying to learn grasshopper. • Hyuse seems to be looking for a chance to lie, and play a prank on Konami. All in all, not much in the way of "secrets". |
| 263 Tachikawa Future |
Q: In the future, what will Tachikawa be doing? also what did you eat yesterday? A: In the future, Tachikawa will move to the north, during the rainy season in mid-june. He will then turn into an extratropical cyclone over the pacific ocean. Unbelievable. Tachikawa will always carry the frontlines as the ace of border. Firstly however, he will have a strong presence during the upcoming, "long term combat test", after that i believe he will then turn into an extratropical cyclone over the pacific ocean. For what i have ate yesterday: i ate zarusoba, while i think Tachikawa ate Tempura over rice. |
| 264 | Q: Is Osamu's name on the list of people Kitora would like to go with? If so, what reason did she put in? A: I don't think Osamu's name is on there, since Kitora is rather rigid. |
| 265 | Q: In round 6 of the rank wars, Zoe mentioned that he “talked with Izumi about it", what kind of relationship do they have? A: It's the horizontal relationship between Gunners and Shooters. Zoe talks with everyone, young and old, male and female. |
| 266 | Q: Izumi has all 4 bullets in his trigger set, is he masterclass in all of them? A: It seems like he is. He has over 10k in Asteroid and Viper though. |
| 267 | Q: When using Fujin, is the user's body still in the flesh? Or is it a Trion body? I was curious because both Jin and Miwa seemed to be wearing the same clothes as before transforming. A: It's a Trion body. Fujin does not have a set uniform, so the user's Trion body is based off of how they were dressed before activation. If you activate it while only wearing underpants, it will result in a big showy action panel. |
| 268 | Q: When did Tachikawa become A rank? A: The man himself says: “In the summer of my 2nd year (of school), I was already A rank.” |
| 269 | Q: What's the name and age of Utagawa's older sister? A: Aya (彩 ?), 24 years old. |
| 270 | Q: What factions do Ui, Ouji, Ikoma and Yuba belong to in terms of their views on neighbors? A: Ui: Shinoda faction (defense), leaning towards factionless Ouji: factionless/freedom faction Ikoma: Kido faction (expedition), leaning towards the middle Yuba: Shinoda faction I think it's about something like that. |
| 271 | Q: What does Yūma do during the nights of the expedition selection test since he can't sleep? Does he pretend to sleep? A: Yuma learns slowly when it comes to the assignments, so he's probably working on them in the middle of the night with a notepad like what Osamu did. When he's in the double bedroom, he's probably reviewing strategies like usual while pretending to sleep. |
| 272 | Q: Kikuchihara wrote Minamisawa and Maki in the list of people he doesn't want to go with, but who does he want to go with? A: Shiori Usami, Haruaki Azuma, Hayato Uno, Yoshito Hanzaki, Osamu Mikumo. |
| 273 | Q: Kuga wrote Kage's name in the list of people he wants to go with, but did Kage write his? A: He probably did. |
| 274 | Q: What type of “things that are evenly spaced apart” does Ratarykov like? A: Books on organized shelves, windows and columns in large buildings, boxed industrial products, and so on. |
| 275 | Q: How does Koskero refer to himself? A: He uses ore (おれ) I believe. He also uses jibun (自分) when addressing his superiors [during missions]. |
| 276 | Q: Was Amō ever part of a squad? A: He was not. He was found to be compatible with the Black Trigger rather soon after he became B-Rank, so he upgraded to S-Rank right away. He is highly skilled with a regular trigger, and even occasionally does defense missions with one. |
| 277 | Q: Why is Shinoda so strong? A: Because the staff drew a tiger behind him. If it had been a camel or a beaver, it's possible he would have ended up weaker. |
| 278 | Q: Did Fuyushima have a job before Border? A: Considering his age, it's very likely. Probably something related to systems. |
| 279 | Q: How does Miwa feel about Neighbors now? A: His hatred for them remains, but right now he seems to be focusing on finding out the culprit (country) behind the first invasion, who harmed his sister, so he could beat them up. |
| 280 | Q: What are the birthdays of the Galopoula Neighbors? A: • Gatlin: November 20 (Chronos) • Koskero: April 5 (Falco) • Wen Sō: July 11 (Gladius) • Ratarykov: September 27 (Luna Falcata) • Reghindetz: August 24 (Lupus) • Yomi: February 14 (Amphibious) |
| 281 | Q: Do the Galopoula people have anything to play with on the away ship? A: There are the various games Yomi designed and Koskero's personal playing cards. |
| 282 | Q: Is there a specific reason as to why Wen Sō is so casual with Captain Gatlin? A: It's mostly due to their personalities, but the fact that they have known each other the longest probably adds to it too. |
| 283 | Q: Looking at what the members of the Galopoula Expedition like, I can't help but wonder if their country is agriculturally wealthy, do they have any staple foods? Is venison commonly eaten? A: They rely on imports from other countries for food as their farm lands and pastures were damaged severely in the previous war. So the favorite foods of the members are quite the "treat". The staple food would probably be wheat (bread). Not only venison but beef, pork (wild boar) and bird meat are also eaten. |
| 284 | Q: Please tell Yuri Rindō's Birthday. A: It is October 23 (Luna Falcata). |
| 285 | Q: How did Kitora increase her Trion amount? A: By using her Trion outside the simulations, like during defense missions, she was able to train it a little day by day. It's similar to muscle training and cardio-pulmonary function. |
| 286 | Q: Was there a reason as to why Utagawa became an All-Rounder? Or did he just gain the points over time? A: He naturally fulfilled the requirements for the All-Rounder role from using Meteor to disrupt the tactics of other teams. If you detonate them near Kikuchihara, you'll get an ear full. |
| 287 | Q: Not counting the Top Brass, who is the busiest in Border? Personally, my money is on either Fuyushima, Azuma, Raizo, Arashiyana or Jin. A: I think it would be Arashiyama, followed by Kazama. Jin seems the type to be laid back in his everyday life. |
| 288 | Q: How do the other 19 year olds refer to Kakizaki? A: • Arashiyama: Kakizaki • Ikoma: Zaki-chan • Yuba: Kuniharuu • Jin: Zakki Zaki himself calls them by their surnames. |
| 289 | Q: What is Konami's favorite fruit? A: Currently, it seems to be the Asian pear. |
| 290 | Q: Why do the 16 year olds refer to Wakamura as "Rokuro-san”"? A: It's probably because the name “Rokuro” rolls off the tongue well and is rather distinctive. |
| 291 | Q: What middle school did the members of Katori Squad attend? A: • Katori: First Mikado City Middle School (2 years above Ema) • Somei: Rokueikan Middle School (1 year above Kashio) • Miura and Wakamura: Second Mikado City Middle School (2 years above Hiura) |
| 292 | Q: Do the members of Katori Squad have anyone outside the squad they get along with? A: They can talk and hang out with practically anyone, but there is probably no one as close to them as they are to each other. |
| 293 | Q: How long was the period between when Karasuma left and when Yuiga joined the squad? Also, how did Tachikawa Squad spend that time? A: The team was passionately discussing whether or not Tachikawa can fill in the Handsome Guy role Karasuma left behind. Yuiga was thrown into Tachikawa Squad rather quickly |
| 294 | Q: What does Hyuse usually do when the students are all at school? A: He is subjected to Yōtarō's relentless questioning, are sent to accompany rodents on their patrols around the neighborhood, are shown ranked matches to test their tactical skills and are given sweets. The life of a POW sure is harsh. |
| 295 | Q: In the manga, we have yet to be told what Chika using a normal Lightning is like. If Chika were to use Lightning, whose bullet speed increases with your Trion amount, would it exceed the speed of light? A: I don't think even Chika can surpass the speed of light. Lightning's usual speed is already very fast, so you would not feel the difference unless you use Lead Bullet. |
| 296 | Q: Do Osamu and Yūma think Chika is cute? A: Yūma probably thinks “she is cute like a small animal.” Osamu, whose mother always calls Chika “cute”, would probably think “yeah she probably is”. |
| 297 | Q: Was Geist created specifically for Karasuma? A: It's an experimental prototype developed by Torimaru after his transfer to Tamakoma was finalized, with the cooperation of Chief Engineers Maruka Mochizuki and Michael Cronin. (Mochizuki is the creator of triggers like Teleporter, Grasshopper, and Idaten). |
| 298 | Q: Can you tell us why Ōji calls Haya, Haya-san? A: it is something he carried over from Old Yuba Squad as he would call Nono, Nono-san. |
| 299 | Q: What does Kuruma call Kako, and Ninomiya? A: I think he calls them "Kako-chan", and "Ninomiya-kun". |
| 300 | Q: Has Hatohara ever done live commentary, or analysis with anyone else? A: She would do it fairly regularly. Maybe she was called with agent Tōma or members of Ninomiya Squad to form a set? |
| 301 | Q: Has Kageura ever help out at his family's shop? A: He started helping after joining Border. His mother is delighted. |
| 302 | Q: Why did Usami leave Kazama Squad? A: Because she had a promise with her parents to prioritize studying starting in her second year of high school, she transferred to Tamakoma Branch which closer to home during the winter of her first year. Around the same time, there was a personnel change where Kiriyama transferred from Tamakoma to Headquarters, making it appear as a trade involving Torimaru and Usami. |
| 303 | Q: Do Jin's sunglasses have any function? A: The sunglasses themselves are perfectly normal, but the tint in your sight caused by them do not appear in images caused by future sight, so the function is to help distinguish the visual information between the present and future. |
| 304 | Q: The character profiles for Volume 29 was full of glitches, was that the work of Ashihara's insane inner personality? or did you use AI to try and reduce the effort required? A: The character profiles was created by Ashihara who has recently felt like there wasn't enough playfulness which was done while in a perfectly healthy, and composed state of mind. It took three times the usually effort. |

[edit source]| qz= | QnA |
|---|---|
| 1 | Please tell us Yūma's birthday. A: Going by the calendar of the world on this side, he was born on July 18th, his Zodiac Sign is Gladius. |
| 2 | Out of all the Japanese food Yūma has eaten up until now, which is his favorite? A: The chicken curry Konami made. |
| 3 | Will Yūma die if he take off the Black Trigger Ring? A: He won't die immediately. He can move for a while even if he takes off the Ring; like running out of battery he will eventually run out of Trion, stop moving and fall into sleep mode. If he is supplied with Trion he will start moving again. But without the ring he can't send nutrients to his flesh body, so he might die if he is left like that. |
| 4 | Can Yūma ride a bike now? A: He can ride a bike quite a lot now. Today too he is roaring noisily along the riverside in full spirits, and then falling into the river. |
| 5 | How heavy is Replica? A: About the weight of an empty 3-cup rice cooker. |
| 6 | In Chapter 16, Replica said he was intending to cope with Miwa Squad's Snipers (Shōhei Kodera, and Tōru Narasaka), but what specifically was he intending to do? A: It seems he was going to wrap them up with the Chain seal. |
| 7 | Was Replica travelling with Yūgo before Yūma was born? Or was he built as a chaperone after Yūma was born? A: He was built after Yūma was born to be his chaperone and friend. |
| 8 | What is that protrusion on the left shoulder of Osamu's uniform? A: It's a "Captain Shoulder". It calls attention to the fact that he is a captain. |
| 9 | How does Osamu feel always being called "Four-eyes" by the people around him? A: He thinks it is only natural. |
| 10 | How old was Osamu when he started wearing glasses? A: There is the rumor that it was from birth, but according to what is in the official records it was from his 2nd year of primary school. |
| 11 | Why did Osamu move from Hasunobe City to Mikado City? A: He didn't move. Osamu's house is right on the borderline between Hasunobe City and Mikado City; since the elementary school on the Hasunobe side was closer and the middle school on the Mikado side was closer, they had a discussion with the local government and he attended one from each. |
| 12 | If Chika could activate Fūjin, how many strands of light can she manifest? A: About 50~60 strands it seems. It probably won't look like a sword anymore. |
| 13 | Did the Amatori family not oppose Chika's enlistment? A: With what happened to Rinji, they naturally opposed it, but Chika's will was firm, and with Branch Director Rindō and Usami's persuading that she would be relatively safer with Border, her parents folded in the end. |
| 14 | Does Jin eat anything besides rice crackers? A: Jin is an omnivorous animal, so besides rice crackers he eats: the flesh of animals, the leaves and roots of plants, grains, fruit etc. skillfully with his forelimbs. |

| 16 | Jin's clothes are always the same, is he always in his Trion Body? A: To impress on everyone the character of a Talented Elite he is usually in his Trion Body, but his clothes in his flesh body isn't all that different. |
| 17 | Please tell us more instances of Konami being tricked. A: Being told if you turn a dry battery round and round it will recharge and doing so for 30 minutes, being told a Kapppa appeared in the river and lying in wait with a camera for a whole day, being told if you swallow gum your stomach will explode and going to the hospital crying, etc. |
| 18 | Konami's favorite color is red, so why is her uniform lime green? A: So that her acquaintances outside of Border won't find out. Konami plays the innocent at school, and pretends her role in Border is "an Operator". Half the reason why she has a different hairstyle is because of that too. |
| 19 | Why doesn't Konami use honorifics for Tachikawa? A: It seems that one way or another they are good friends. They both say the other is lower than themselves. |
| 20 | It was written that Karasuma's jacket is Jin's hand-me-down", but was there some kind of occasion for him to receive Jin's hand-me-downs? A: Because Karasuma's height caught up with Jin's. |
| 21 | How many minutes at most can Karasuma maintain Geist? A: With Trion at full capacity he can maintain 284 seconds, so slightly less than 5 minutes. |
| 22 | Perfect All-rounder Reiji gives the impression that he can do anything, from fighting to cooking and handicraft (Yōtarō's helmet), but is there anything he's not good at? A: It seems he is bad at showing off in front of the girl he likes. |
| 23 | What does glasses-lover Usami think of wearing glasses for show? A: She thinks that "glasses being incorporated as a fashion item is an inevitability of history and the providence of nature". |
| 24 | After seeing Usami in her swimsuit in the participation prize illustration for the 2014 NicoNico Static Image POP & Fanart Contest, I can't help but wonder what her cup size is. What is Usami's cup size? A: Seems more than Ayatsuji but less than Kunichika so it is estimated to be D cup. |
| 25 | How many different pairs of glasses are in Usami's collection? A: For normal use, for work, for reading, for going out, for retiring to bed, and a back-up; there are altogether 6 pairs. |
| 26 | Is Yōtarō a C-rank agent (trainee)? A: He is Tamakoma Branch's Exclusive S-rank Child Agent. He is not allowed to participate in battles, but he can give orders to Tamakoma agents, and Tamakoma agents can refuse his orders. |
| 27 | How strong is Yōtarō if he were to fight? What would his position be? A: He himself says "if I partner with Raijinmaru, I can take them if they're Rabbits." Position is Capybarider. |
| 28 | How does Yōtarō talk to animals? A: It depends on the animal's level of intelligence. He can get "Yes", "No", "Okay", "No way" from any animal. Basically it's Yōtarō speaking to them and then getting a response. |
| 29 | Please tell us the details of Arashiyama Squad's PR activities. A: Appearing on PR websites, PR magazines and PR programs (TV, radio etc.), guiding enlistment familiarization courses, orientation responsibilities during the enlistment ceremony etc., and appearing in various events. Basically their activities are within Mikado City, but they sometimes appear in other prefectural or national networks too. (Their schedules are tight, so they don't usually take on work) |
| 30 | I want to know the breed and name of Arashiyama family's dog! A: The name is Koro. A Mongrel Shiba Inu type. |
| 31 | For once and for all! I ask…I want to know what Kitora's three sizes and cup size are! Please! A: The same reason as Usami, it seems to be about D cup. Three sizes change easily so I don't know. |
| 32 | During Round 2 of B-rank Rank Wars, why was only Satori not in the audience with the other Arashiyama Squad combatants? A: He had work piling up because he commentated on Round 1, so he was finishing off odd jobs with Ayatsuji's help. |
| 33 | When Arashiyama Squad makes their entrance, Satori is often not there; where is he? A: He is usually in the cutout. |
| 34 | Satori put "girls" in the things he likes, but does he have a type or any hang-ups? A: He doesn't. He falls in love with all types of girls equally. |
| 35 | Miwa used Fūjin in the Large-Scale Invasion Arc, but since when did he have possession of it? A: After talking to Jin on the roof, he was summoned by Commander Kido and reluctantly received Fūjin. It seems he had no intention of using it. |
| 36 | What food does Miwa like? A: Zaru soba, sashimi, and cookies. |
| 37 | Why didn't Miwa go to prep school when he's so smart? A: Likely because it seems he has no intention of going on to college. |
| 38 | What will happen if Yōsuke takes off his headband? A: His field of vision will become bad, and his hotness level will go up. |
| 39 | What is Yōsuke's favorite drink out of them all? A: The cold drink after eating curry or ramen. |
| 40 | Why is only Yōsuke's uniform in a different arrangement? A: Some way or other it was hard to move in, and because he wanted to add his favorite badges, he rearranged it himself. |
| 41 | Are Kodera's strategies (his personal opinion on terrain battles etc.) from self-study? Or does he have a mentor? A: Half from self-study, half from Tsukimi's guidance. You can say he is Tachikawa's sibling disciple. |

| 43 | Is the can of coffee Kazama was drinking in Chapter 32 black coffee? Or café au lait? A: Because Kazama likes milk, it seems to be café au lait. |

| 45 | Please tell us instances that shows Kazama's carelessness. A: He didn't realize for years he was riding the city bus on child prices, he fought a postbox after Suwa got him drunk, he tried to ride Raijinmaru when no one was watching but got caught on security camera etc. |
| 46 | What is Kazama's brother's name? A: According to the data given to the anime staff, it is "Shin Kazama". |
| 47 | Is there any chance of Kazama growing any taller? A: Unless he undergoes surgery, no there isn't. |
| 48 | Kazama Squad's Operator went from Usami to Mikami, was she referred by Usami? A: That's right. Usami recommended her as replacement with complete confidence. |
| 49 | Does Kikuchihara growing out his hair have anything to do with his Side Effect? A: It does. He grows out his hair because he gets the impression that he isn't picking up unnecessary sounds this way. |
| 50 | Does Kikuchihara have any friends besides Utagawa? A: Pretty much everyone he's talked to are his friends. |
| 51 | Kikuchihara is an arts-type and seems pretty weak, so why did he become an Attacker? A: Because being close to the target to a certain extent makes better use of the Enhanced Hearing Side Effect. |
| 52 | Tachikawa called Kumagai "Kuma", but what relationship do they have? A: The relationship of a college student who read the kanji for "Kumagai" wrong 6 times in a row, and a broad-minded female high schooler who tolerates that. |
| 53 | Tachikawa called Suzunari First's Betsuyaku by his given name, "Taichi", could this be because he can't read the name "Betsuyaku"…? A: "It's not that I can't read it, I'm just not sure" is how it is. |
| 54 | Why did Tachikawa grow a beard? A: "Because I was told having a beard make you look smart!", because of a dumb reason like that. |
| 55 | What can Tachikawa do besides fighting? A: He can grill mochi nicely on an earthen charcoal brazier. |
| 56 | Did Tachikawa's eyes become grid-shaped because he burned the mesh for grilling his beloved mochi into his eyes? A: That's it. That's probably why. |
| 57 | What ploy did Tachikawa use to get into College? A: He used the cunning ploy of "Border's Recommendation" to just barely get in Mikado Public College which is affiliated with Border. His parents were super happy. |
| 58 | What flavor of mochi does Tachikawa like? A: He likes kinako mochi, but because he spills kinako all over the place, kinako mochi was banned in Border facilities. |
| 59 | Is Izumi's "A Hundred Hits in a Thousand Shots" t-shirt handmade? Or did he receive it from someone who screen printed it or something? A: The merchandise department made it for Izumi. There are 8 different color variations. |

| 61 | How long does it take for Tōma to style his hair into a pompadour? A: About 2 seconds with a trigger on. |
| 62 | I can't tell if the cat that was riding on Tōma's head was having fun, or happy, or what. How did it feel? A: It thinks it's "not bad". |
| 63 | It seems Fuyushima was scouted by the Operator Risa Maki and got his front-lines job, but how did Tōma join? A: As he was idling around with no intention of forming a team, he was scolded by the then middle schooler Risa Maki to "do some work", started enjoying himself somehow and formed a team. Fuyushima joined after that. |
| 64 | Why is Fuyushima weak to high school girls? A: Because he wasn't popular in high school. |
| 65 | Please tell me Midorikawa's profile! A: 14 years old born October 20th (middle school student), Zodiac of the Crescent Moon, blood type O, 157cm tall, likes BBQ, winning Rank Wars, and Jin. |
| 66 | Is the white tracksuit Midorikawa wore in those Rank Wars not a uniform? A: It's a tracksuit and goggles set that focuses on a "sense of wind", based on Jin's. Something like practice gear. |
| 67 | Please tell me Izuho's profile! A: 14 years old born April 12th (middle school student), Zodiac of the Falcon, blood type B, 157cm tall, likes Hamburg steaks, tempura, and karate. Her family runs a karate dojo. |
| 68 | It seems to me that Izuho uses Ibis a lot, is she fixated on it? A: It seems the impact of Chika's Ibis punching through the wall of the base was very strong. |
| 69 | Did Izuho's family taken in her kitty? A: No, they didn't. While looking for an owner, HQ's Engineers took it in and it became the HQ cat. Nominally, Izuho is the owner. |
| 70 | Does Izuho attract animals or something? A: She attracts animals and children, but doesn't seem very happy about it. |
| 71 | Who is the strongest when it comes to the mahjong that takes place in Suwa Squad's Strategy Room? A: Fuyushima and Azuma are strong, but when Osano joins in Fuyushima become the weakest. |
| 72 | Trion cubes were called "Suwa", but what does Suwa think of this? A: He'd feel bad for Kitora or Chika if they were to be teased for it, so it doesn't really matter if it's happening to him. But Kazama's getting a beating. Is what he's thinking. |
| 73 | What will happen if Tsutsumi opens his eyes? A: Border's Hottest Man Ranking will change. |

| 76 | Did Arafune establish Attacker/Sniper methodology through self-study? Or did he have a mentor for each of them? | 77 | Arafune's weakness had "can't swim", but what is his limit? A: At the point of putting his face in the water, he is breaking through his limits. |
| 78 | Did Arafune transfer to Sniper after Arafune Squad was formed? Or was Arafune Squad formed after he transferred to Sniper? A: Forming the team came first. Just after the team formed, they were Attacker, and two Snipers; a composition similar to Miwa Squad. |
| 79 | What is the reason behind Arafune disliking dogs? A: Because he was bitten by a small dog on his right butt cheek for no reason when he was young. The scar still remains even now. |
| 80 | Hokari likes "festivals", but does he just go to them? Does he participate in them? My friend and I have said that he probably shoulders the portable festival shrines. A: He has ridden on top of a portable festival shrine before. It seems he likes both participating and watching. |

A: In the summer of his 3rd year of elementary school, he ran away from home for a night and when he was found the next day he said cheerfully, "I met inside a UFO. With the aliens." | 84 | Please tell us how Murakami came to be assigned to Suzunari Branch. | 85 | Is Murakami's style, "Kogetsu in the right hand, Raygust in the left hand"? Or "Raygust in the right hand, Kogetsu in the left hand"? A: When he is focusing on attacking it's "Kogetsu in the right hand", when he is focusing on defending it's "Raygust in the right hand". |

| 90 | Why is the genuine evil Taichi always wearing a hat? Is there any meaning to the fact that it has ears? A: Seeing Yōtarō's helmet, Kuruma bought it for Taichi as he worries over Taichi's clumsiness. Taichi cherishes and wears it all the time. |
| 91 | Kon of Suzunari First, has "calligraphy" in her likes, but does she hold a ranking or a pen name? (a postcard written with beautiful brushstrokes) A: It seems to be "4th Dan of the Adult Division". The author isn't very well informed and doesn't know if it's amazing or not. |
| 92 | Please tell us Kon's best dish. A: Simmered flatfish, mapo eggplant, and fried chicken in nanban sauce. |
| 93 | What is Azuma studying in graduate school? A: In the affiliated college there are secret Trion research facilities, and he does experiments that aren't done in HQ's labs (experiments that don't have immediate applications but are necessary in clarifying the composition of Trion) there with a group, also military history. |
| 94 | Just where did Azuma learn a Sniper's skills and mindset? A: Azuma likes learning from experience, so it's mostly from training or Rank Wars, learning through implementation and failure. He also dabbled a bit in military books and so on, but real guns and trigger weapons are quite different so it was just for reference. |
| 95 | Branch Director Rindō likes fishing (can't catch anything), but what is the skill level of Azuma who also likes fishing? A: To the point that he can live with fish as the main meal when camping. |
| 96 | Does Kako have no sense of taste? Or does she have a normal sense of taste but end up creating weapons of slaughter? A: Her sense of taste is normal. It is curiosity that kills the Tsutsumi. |

| 98 | Has Kuruma or Ninomiya died from Kako's fried rice? A: Kuruma has good luck so he's never been out, Ninomiya doesn't want to die so he never takes the challenge. |
| 99 | Why does Nasu's eyes change a little between her Trion Body and flesh body? A: It seems it is because she is more energetic in her Trion Body. |
| 100 | What is Commander Kido's favorite movie? A: The Great Escape. |
| 101 | Commander Kido called HQ Director Shinoda "mischievous brat"; if there were any instances of mischievousness when he was young, please tell us. A: He inadvertently sliced Commander Kido's car in half while doing blade practice, he tried to see if he could run on water on the river and got the police called on him, he left through the 2nd floor window and returned through the 3rd floor window, etc. |
| 102 | What was Sawamura's position when she was an agent? A: Charging Attacker in love. |
| 103 | Are the bags under Kinuta's eyes from lack of sleep? A: The bags are from lack of sleep, eyestrain, and bad blood flow. He should rest more. |
| 104 | It's really none of my business, but why is Kinuta separated from his wife? A: Because Kinuta forced his wife and daughter back to her parents' home without consulting her. |
| 105 | Please tell us about the Border merchandise Netsuki has! A: It's not very different from idol, pro athlete, or anime merchandise. Badges of Arashiyama Squad's emblem and clothes with the emblem attached are what sells well. There is a life-sized Arashiyama doll that is not for sale in the PR department, it's pretty creepy. There is currently a plan to make trading cards of Border agents and a mascot for Border. |
| 106 | Whose clothes was that hoodie with the horn mark Hyuse was wearing in Tamakoma Branch? A: It is from Border's supplies that Usami added a needlepoint design to on Yōtarō's orders. |

| 108 | What food does Hyuse like? A: Chicken stew, cutlet don, and taiyaki. He isn't good with raw fish or shrimp that still have their heads |
| 109 | What food does Hyrein like? A: Grapes and fried dough. He doesn't like fish with a lot of bones. |

| 111 | Please tell us how Enedora feels now that he has become a Rad (Enedorad). A: "Oh? I have a another chance?" |
| 112 | Is Enedorad kind of black because Enedora was a black trigger? Or is it the R&D department's aesthetic? A: It is because Enedorad said, "Make the body black. Then we'll talk." |
| 113 | Please tell us the full names of Kōda Squad (new 3 idiots)! A: Teruteru Kōda, Fumifumi Saotome, Hidehide Hinoe. |
| 114 | Kōda Squad (new 3 idiots) haven't shown up recently, were they kidnapped by Aftokrator? A: That's not in their character. They are more energetic than necessary as they continue to steadily improve. The forecast says they will rise to B-rank next season. |
| 115 | Osamu's classmate Miyoshi said, "How do you join Border?", but has he taken the enlistment exam? A: He has. He didn't have enough trion and failed while not really knowing what's going on. Do your best. |
| 116 | How did Osamu's mother set up attacks on her current husband? A: She intruded on him every day and they ate obentou together. To shoot the commander, go through the stomach. |
| 117 | After the end of the Second Large-Scale Invasion, did Sawamura manage to confess her love to HQ Director Shinoda? A: HQ Director Shinoda was too manly and she couldn't. It's fine, it's not the time to panic yet. |
| 118 | What are romantic relationships like in Border? They're not banned from dating, are they? A: They are not banned, but it doesn't feel like there are a lot of couples. There might have been trouble caused by romantic relationships before in the past. It is more secure to find a lover outside of Border perhaps. |
| 119 | Are Karasuma and Konami dating? A: I think they probably aren't dating. |
| 120 | Speaking frankly, are Arafune and Kagami dating? A: Speaking frankly, I think they aren't. |
| 121 | What is the relationship between Kako and Tsutsumi? A: "Suspect" and "victim". |

| 123 | Kikuchihara was scouted by Kazama, but was Utagawa scouted by him too? A: Usami valued Utagawa's athletic ability and personality, and invited him. |
| 124 | Branch Director Rindō called Kazama by his first name, "Sōya", are they mentor and disciple? A: Kazama's older brother was Branch Director Rindō's disciple. It seems that he calls him by his first name because they would overlap if he used "Kazama". |
| 125 | Tachikawa Squad's uniform looks like the long coat HQ Director Shinoda had on in his Trion Body, was it deliberately made to look similar? A: it seems likely. Respecting the mentor. |
| 126 | How much is the difference in power between Tachikawa and HQ Director Shinoda? A: It seems to be as much as the difference between Yūma and Konami right now. |
| 127 | How and when did Akane become Narasaka's disciple? Does Narasaka have any other disciples? A: When Akane was invited to join Nasu Squad (when Kumagai brought her along), Nasu asked her cousin Narasaka to make her his disciple. By the way, his other disciple besides Akane is the Four-Eyes with a promising future, Shōhei Kodera. |
| 128 | Arafune called Reiji by his last name 8 months ago but now calls him by first name, did he seek teaching from him or became his disciple for his goal of becoming a Perfect All-Rounder? A: It seems likely. At that point, Arafune started emulating Hokari and started weight training, so there was the rumor within Border that he "received a muscle baptism". |
| 129 | Kageura is called by the nickname Kage by Murakami and Arafune, but how and through what common ground did these three people with such different personalities become friends? A: Murakami and Arafune are swordsmanship mentor and disciple, Kageura and Murakami are in the same class in school, Kageura and Arafune are the second son of an Okonomiyaki restaurant and its regular customer. |
| 130 | Who are the main agents who were scouted from out of the prefecture? A: Suzunari First's Murakami, Taichi, Kon, Tachikawa Squad's Kunichika, Ikoma Squad's members etc. |
| 131 | It seems Jin arranged Osamu's uniform, but did he also arrange Yūma and Chika's? A: The current uniform is a result of scrupulous discussion between Jin, Konami, and Usami. |
| 132 | Who was the person Jin was talking to in the end of Chapter 37? A: From the way he spoke, it seems to be Arashiyama. |
| 133 | Are there other cousins in Border like Arashiyama & Konami, and Usami & Yōsuke? A: Agents with similar faces might be pretty suspicious. Mikado City is very nice to live in, and there are many families who have lived there for generations, so there are many people related by blood. |
| 134 | Are there any mingling between Border agents of the same age? For instance, the 21 year old group (Reiji, Kazama, and Suwa) going out drinking together or something. A: Since the times for going up a grade and graduating and so on overlap, the connections between those of the same age are actually quite strong. Reiji, Kazama, Suwa, and Terashima often hang out eating and drinking together. |
| 135 | Do Border agents visit and play with their friends on their Squad outside of missions? A: There are Squads that do, and Squads that don't. Kako Squad, Suzunari First, and Suwa Squad look like they would all go out together. |
| 136 | The Shield Kitora used in Chapter 8 to surround herself, was that a normal Shield? A: It was a normal Shield that she used in "fixed mode". It cannot be moved from where it sprouts from, but in return the durability is enhanced. |
| 137 | Is the extension and contraction of Yōsuke's spear shaft a function of Gen'yō? A: It is not Gen'yō, but an ability unique to Yōsuke's spear. Finding it inconvenient in narrow places, Yōsuke requested the Engineers to modify it for him. |
| 138 | During the Second Large-Scale Invasion, Reiji gripped a trigger holder in his fist and punched the enemy, was that a Raygust punch? Or just a muscle punch? A: Reiji is a smart muscle head so it is a boosted muscle punch accelerated with Raygust, and Thruster. |
| 139 | Is there any meaning to the hats that snipers like Arafune, Taichi, and Akane wear? A: It seems the purpose is to block out the sun from getting in the way when sniping. |
| 140 | In Chapter 30, Arashiyama instructed Satori to "raise Radar's precision by just 10 seconds", does this mean Satori has some kind of option trigger equipped? A: Precision adjustment is one of Radar's customary functions. Like Bailout, Radar is a "standard trigger", and anyone can use it at any time, but while in use trion is used up little by little (and by raising the precision more trion is used up too), so the outcome is that members with a surplus of trion use it. In this case, Satori was in charge of Radar. |
| 141 | How many of Grasshopper's sheet-like things can be generated at once? And can (one of) the sheet-like thing be used over and over? A: Like Asteroid and so on, by splitting them several can be generated at once, but the more generated the lower the power output will be for each one. The jump board disappears after one use. |
| 142 | What abilities does the "Gimlet" that Izumi used in Volume 8 have? A: By doubling the structure of the bullet, penetration power is increased; it is used to breach Shield or firm armor and cause damage. |
| 143 | Please tell us if there are any other composite bullets besides Tomahawk, and Gimlet. A: There are ones like Meteor + Hound's "Salamander", Asteroid + Viper's "Cobra", Hound + Hound's "Hornet" etc. |
| 145 | Is Ninomiya the one who created composite bullets? Is it Izumi? Or an Engineer? A: Izumi tried it out on some kind of impulse and it worked. That is why he is called "genius-like" and "bullet idiot". |
| 146 | Can Gunners use composite bullets? A: If they set it in the gun trigger they can, but that gun then becomes "a gun that can only shoot the composite bullet". |
| 147 | How many types of gun triggers are there? Can they make new types themselves? A: There are a variety of types, and they're always going through minor changes. New designs can be proposed too. |
| 148 | What kind of skills are needed to set Viper's trajectory in real time? A: The imagination to visualize something that isn't actually there as if it is, an objective viewpoint that grasps the state of the surroundings including yourself, the spatial awareness to correctly perceive the distance to the target and any obstacles, and so on. |
| 149 | Is there a reason why there are different shapes for Scorpion? A: Jin and Yūma's single edge Scorpion is the standard type that stresses balance. Kazama Squad's hollowed out Scorpion is a type specializing in attack and stresses the reach when expanding and contracting. Kitora's double-edged Scorpion is a modded type that has been equipped with the function to rotate it like a pinwheel around the grip. |
| 150 | The shape or length of Scorpion can be changed, but can it be thrown? A: It can be, but the moment it leaves the hand its transformation function can no longer be used. |
| 151 | Can Raygust's Thruster be activated remotely? A: According to the setting of the story, it can't be, but it seems like it'd be interesting if it could be! |
| 152 | Like the Scorpion that Jin proposed, are there any weapons thought up by agents that started being used part way through? A: Almost all of the triggers are developed by the Engineers according to the demands of the front-lines agents. |
| 153 | Kumagai's Kogetsu has a guard, can the design of any part that isn't the blade be freely changed? A: Consult with the Engineers, and it can be freely changed to an extent. Kumagai blocks with her sword a lot, so a guard was attached to protect her hands. |
| 154 | Who made Kogetsu (Spear) and when did it happen? A: Yōsuke made it with one of the Chief Engineers. Due to the idea that "because the trion cost to construct the handle of a Kogetsu is lower than the cost to construct the blade, if the blade is shortened and the handle lengthened then even people without a high trion ability can have a long reach", it became a spear shape. |
| 155 | Please tell us when Raygust was developed as well as the story behind its development. A: Raizō Terashima (18), a top class Kogetsu wielder at the time, got pissed off at the enhancing and popularity of bullet triggers and transferred to Engineer, where he made Raygust as an anti-bullet trigger blade with Shield and Scorpion as the base. This was when Terashima gained weight. |
| 156 | Are Shooters derived from Gunners? Who created the Shooter position and how did it happen? A: The order is that Shooter came first. There are those suited for handling cube bullets and those who aren't, so gun triggers were developed so that anyone can use bullets with a high degree of accuracy, and Gunners were derived. |
| 157 | Who comes up with the name of Border's triggers? A: There are five Chief Engineers who names the triggers developed by the section they each lead. |
| 158 | What happens if you get attacked in the middle of bailing out? A: The trigger holder with the flesh body inside is still in the space on "the other side" until you return to base and fall on the mat, so it cannot be attacked. What looks like flying away is the "path" that follows the coordinates to bailout's destination. |
| 159 | Is there a limit to how far you can be from the base and still bailout? A: There is. Right now activating Bail Out is only guaranteed "within Mikado City". |
| 160 | Can Bail Out be used while on an away mission? And where do you go if you bailout? A: The away ship is equipped with a Bail Out antenna, so you can return to the away ship. But the current technology only allows activation "within 3km of the away ship". |
| 161 | Is the Trion Body's "internal comms" a communication channel? Or a function of the Trion Body? A: It's part of the Trion Body's standard functions. Communication is between people in normal earshot and can be limited to the target. You can also whisper jokes to someone while they're drinking. |
| 162 | What were the self-defense triggers the base engineers used during the Large-Scale Invasion Arc? A: A trigger that has no weapons or bailout and only transforms into a trion body. Even someone with low trion ability can use it, and can survive once after being attacked. |
| 163 | Are there any cases of different people with the same Side Effect? A: It is possible, but people with Side Effects are rare in general, so you don't really meet people with the same ability. |
| 164 | Are the trion cubes produced by Shooters before they shoot always at its maximum size according to trion ability? Or can it be adjusted each time? A: It is always at its maximum size. Trion ability is exposed for the most part. |
| 165 | What happens to the bullets that miss their mark when they exceed their maximum range? A: The bullet reacts to the atmosphere and extinguishes. |
| 166 | While using Chameleon, can you fight with martial arts? A: Since Sasamori grappled Yūma, it seems you can. |
| 167 | Does "exclusive optionals" not count in the only two triggers at a time limit? A: They don't. Exclusive Optionals, like Kogetsu's exclusive "Senkū", are equipped on the same side of the slots as Kogetsu, and only switched ON when in use (the trion consumed is only what the exclusive option used). Dual-wielding Kogetsu + (Senkū x 2) for a "Double Senkū Kogetsu" is also possible. |
| 168 | Kogetsu can be turned OFF without being put back in its sheath, but is it possible, for instance, to use a feint like holding a gun in one hand with it OFF while attacking with a Scorpion from the elbow? A: It is possible. "Pretending with Shield + Gun but actually Scorpion" is one of the feints that All-Rounders equipped with Scorpion (like Arashiyama Squad) use a lot. |
| 169 | Are the food eaten in Trion Bodies digested? A: The rate of digestion is even better than flesh bodies, and almost 100% is reduced into nutrients (to the point that you don't have to go to the bathroom), but since the satiety center isn't very stimulated, there isn't much sense of fullness, and there is the fear of eating too much and the flesh body gaining more and more weight. Terashima gained weight because of this. |
| 170 | Kitora was coughing when she got out of the river in Chapter 9, but does Trion Bodies need to breathe too? A: The consumption of oxygen in Trion Bodies is extremely low, and can last without breathing for several hundred times longer than flesh bodies (if it really seems like oxygen is about to run out, the Trion Body goes into sleep mode, so you won't die). It seems that Kitora was coughing out the water that had gotten inside the Trion Body through her mouth. |
| 171 | Fuyushima was sea-sick on his way back from the away mission, but do you get sick or out of breath even in Trion Bodies? A: You get sea-sick, lose consciousness, yawn and even cry. You won't get out of breath from running, but you can feel palpations and get agitated breathing from nervousness. |
| 172 | How much of a Trion Body's structure is based on the human body? Does sweating or crying happen? A: Cold sweat, goosebumps, etc. most things that occur to the flesh body can be reproduced. There was a time when experiments were done on removing fear or nervousness when transformed into a Trion Body, but results from missions and Rank Wars visibly deteriorated, so right now they do their best to reproduce it so it is as similar to the state of the flesh body as possible. |
| 173 | Trion Bodies are sturdy, but can the feel of it or its temperature be differentiated from flesh bodies'? A: So that the one transformed doesn't feel any wrongness, the feel and temperature is reproduced too. |
| 174 | How much can the outer appearance of Trion Bodies be changed? Can height, body type, sex be changed, or even become a complete different person? A: Some fiddling is possible, but if the height and so on is changed too much it becomes difficult to operate the Trion Body due to the feeling of wrongness with the flesh body. You get used to it after a while, but then when you return to your flesh body you get that feeling of wrongness again, so people don't really tamper with the outer appearance of Trion Bodies anymore. |
| 175 | How long can you spend in a Trion Body? A: If you don't use Trion, and try to stay as still as possible, you can stay in a Trion Body basically for forever. (You will get hungry so you will need to eat). |
| 176 | Does trion or trion gland exist in living beings other than humans? A: It might, but to use triggers, "clearly radiating the will to activate the trigger" is necessary, so it seems difficult to make a dog or cat use a trigger. |
| 177 | Why was Osamu able to escape from Mira's skewers when he went trigger off in Volume 9? A: Because there was the worry that if someone undid the transformation while they were stuck under debris from buildings or something they would be crushed the moment they returned to their flesh body, so Border's triggers are constructed so that the flesh body is transmitted to coordinates that don't interfere with anything in the surroundings. |
| 178 | Chapter 1 said that tanks and fighter aircrafts" attacks didn't work on Trion Bodies, but can agents in Trion Bodies not be damaged too? Or are they not durable enough and will bailout? A: I think a Trion Body for combat use will be totally fine against the gun of a tank or a missile. |
| 179 | Is there any way to plug trion leakage when Trion Bodies are damaged? A: Trion Bodies have a function that automatically closes the wound (stops the bleeding), so unless it's a very big wound the trion leakage will stop in 1 minute even if it is left alone. If it is plugged with hands or something, I think there can be even less leakage. |
| 180 | Do the Squads wearing uniforms that look very warm in the current midwinter setting change clothes in summer? Tachikawa Squad and Chano Squad especially look too warm. A: Trion Bodies can be adjusted for the heat and the cold too, so there are no problems with long coats in midsummer, but to the townspeople looking on from the side there is nothing that looks more sweltering, so there are also Squads that change clothes. There are also agents who overhaul their uniform regularly, or have multiple uniforms they change into depending on the mood. |
| 181 | Do the agents who were made into cubes during the Second Large-Scale Invasion have any memories of that time? A: It's close to being in a comatose state so there are almost no memories of it. |
| 182 | Do Gunners with gun triggers lose the ability to attack if both arms are wounded? Or can they attack with cubes like Shooters? A: Gunners cannot fight without guns. So targeting the Gunner's arm is a valid strategy. It is one of the drawbacks to Gunners compared to Shooters. |
| 183 | Does Yūma's Black Trigger have a name? A: Because neither Yūma nor Replica tried to give it a name, it doesn't have one. They call it "Dad's Trigger" or "Yūgo's Black Trigger". |
| 184 | Is Yūma unable to use the Black Trigger now that Replica isn't here? A: He can, but he has to set it himself when using Overlap Seals or Composite Seals, so it takes time. |
| 185 | Is there any difference between Yūma's "Bound" Seal and Grasshopper's abilities? A: The "Bound" Seal has far more power output, but only one can be generated at a time. |
| 186 | Please tell us "Echo" Seal's effect. A: It emits a faint wave of trion through which you can learn the terrain of the surroundings and any living beings, and the position, distance, and state of trion constructs. |
| 187 | Is Replica's Trion created from Replica himself? Or is it borrowed somehow from Yūma or the surroundings? A: Replica's Trion was supplied from Yūma's black trigger. If a supply cord is used, anyone can supply Replica with Trion. |
| 188 | When Jin wasn't setting off Fūjin, he fought with something like a Kogetsu, what is Fūjin's performance like when it isn't setting off remote slash attacks? A: A super-efficient blade lighter than Scorpion, and cuts better and is more durable than Kogetsu. |
| 189 | When Miwa used Fūjin during the Second Large-Scale Invasion, why was he able to attack "somewhere he couldn't see"? A: It was a combination technique with Replica determining the position. |
| 190 | Did Miwa activate Fūjin in his flesh body? Or did he re-transform? A: He released Border's trigger and re-transformed with Fūjin. |
| 191 | What will happen if you liquefy or gasify with "Vorvoros" in the middle of a rainstorm? A: You can hide in the surrounding rainwater or puddles if you liquefy so you are super strong, but you will probably lose to the wind and be blown away if you gasify so you are super weak. |
| 192 | What are those spikes when "Speiraskia" attacks? A: "Nail-like things" (there are flat ones too) added to "Speiraskia" as a bonus. |
| 193 | It seems that Black Triggers are left by users with superior trion abilities, but how many of the current agents might be able to leave one? A: Even for superior users luck is involved a little in whether they can leave behind a Black Trigger or not (so there aren't many people willing to become Black Triggers voluntarily), but it is said that if it's people with Side Effects creating Black Triggers the success rate rises quite a lot. |
| 194 | Why was the uniform Yūgo had set in the past applied to Yūma? A: In Border's database there remained something like an account of Yūgo's living body; it seems it reacted to some component that made up Yūgo in Yūma's Black Trigger. |
| 195 | The Trion Body's uniform or hairstyle can be set as anything, can a trigger (weapon)'s color or ornaments be set? A: If the request is given to an Engineer, it can be. A black Kogetsu or something seems like it'd be pretty cool. |
| 196 | What is the difference between Trion Bodies that have headphones (communicators?) and those that don't? A: The communication function is one of the Trion Body's standard equipment, but because it looks like you're talking to yourself if you don't have a communicator, Squads that are bothered by that set their Trion Bodies to have headphones or headsets. The only difference is in the appearance. |
| 197 | Are there any organizations like Border outside of Mikado City? A: There aren't. Right now there is probably only Border on this earth. |
| 198 | Border is a private organization, but do they receive support from the government? A: They don't. All funds are raised by Karasuma. For the sake of getting accommodated by the schools, establishing the base, dealing with the aftermath of battles and so on, they coordinate closely with Mikado City. |
| 199 | Narasaka and Kodera had their houses destroyed, but did Border or the government provide them with money to build new homes? A: Narasaka and Kodera are living in temporary residences constructed by Border and Mikado City. There is also an accommodation area within the HQ base that agents and employees can lodge in whenever they want, as well as other measures such as the city buying up houses of the townspeople who have moved from Mikado City and empty apartment rooms and then renting them out cheaply to the townspeople who have lost their houses. |
| 200 | Is the place that is now the Hazard Zone completely forbidden to enter? Is even going back for a short time just to retrieve belongings not allowed? A: If there are any interested, they are allowed to return to their home for a time under the supervision of Mikado City and Border. |
| 201 | There are smartphone and tablet-like things being used in the story, are they provided by Border? A: They are supplied by Border, and official agents are allowed to have them. They can access things that require a low level of authorization on Border's internal network. It is equipped with a trion conversion device, so it can be charged even without a source of electricity. |
| 202 | Is there a restriction that Border agents can't leave Mikado City? A: There isn't really a restriction, but HQ can check a trigger holder's travel log, so if the trigger holder is taken along then where you went will be exposed. |
| 203 | Is the concept of Trion not made public? A: It is only made known to those who are B-rank or above, but even C-rank agents seem to hear about it somehow or other. There are also many corporations within Border's sponsors who are interested in Trion technology, so people like those and officials of Mikado City that Border coordinates with receive an explanation to some extent. |
| 204 | Is there any difference in treatment between those who are affiliated with HQ and branch members? A: There is no difference except the one between A-rank, B-rank, and C-rank. The extent is that it's a bit troublesome to go for Rank Wars from one of the branches. |
| 205 | Does Suzunari Branch have a Branch Director? They don't seem to be called to meetings though. A: The Branch Director of all the branches except Tamakoma Branch are normal employees whose roles are to act as a point of contact with the locals, and have no Trion ability. Branch Director Rindō is called to executive meetings because he is one of Border's first members. |
| 206 | What are the infrastructures and essential utilities needed for everyday life, such as the replenishment of vending machine drinks, water and sewage services and so on, like for Border HQ? A: There are delivery tunnels that run from downtown, quite far from the base, right to the base's underground area, and goods are carried in from there. Water and sewage systems, electricity, gas, and so on are drawn from the lines that were used in what is now the Hazard Zone in coordination with Mikado City. |
| 207 | Are there any staff canteens or cafeterias that agents can use too in Border HQ? If there are I am curious what the popular menus are. A: There is a big cafeteria with cheap prices. Popular menus are: A-rank set (a mystery set of toasted mochi udon and croquettes), A-rank set meal (a mystery set meal of sashimi rice and mapo tofu), A-rank capricious fried rice (fried rice with different ingredients depending on the day) etc. |
| 208 | Arashiyama said "there is no running out of trion in the training rooms", but what is going on with the trion in training rooms? A: The "Virtual Battle Mode" of places like training rooms reproduce the movement of trion into computer data, in short it is like fighting inside a game and actual trion is not used up. It is also possible to fiddle with the variables of the data and reproduce experimental conditions. With this technology, the efficiency of Border's battle training increased rapidly. In conclusion, Kinuta is amazing. |
| 209 | Somehow or other all the upper management seem like workaholics, but do they get regular breaks? Or are they living in the base? A: Two days of the week are actually established as breaks, but there seems to be many from the upper management who give up their breaks for work. The ones who work the most are Kinuta and Commander Kido, the one who takes breaks the most is Branch Director Rindō. |
| 210 | Is the person who talked with Osamu about Border's exam in Chapter 82 one of Border's Top Brass? I'm curious to know who they are. A: It is the HR department's Director, Seiji Mizunuma. The father of Osamu's homeroom teacher, Mizunuma. (Osamu doesn't know about this) |
| 211 | When do Border's Trainees choose their position and weapon? Which is given priority, what they want or what suits them? A: Border judges their aptitude from the results of the enlistment exam, and decides the trigger they use and position. Agents start with that trigger, but can change to a different trigger or position whenever they like. |
| 212 | Please tell us the details of an Engineer's job. A: Analyze Neighborhood technology and adding it to the database, developing new Triggers, as well as improving and modifying them, modelling uniforms, developing, expanding and maintaining the base's systems (the Rank War System and others). |
| 213 | What do you need to do to become an Engineer? A: There are two ways: request to become an Engineer when enlisting, or request to transfer after enlisting. |
| 214 | Are there no research being done on creating Trion Soldiers in the world on this side? A: There are, actually. But if restricted to just defending Mikado City, it is judged more logical to make use of human agents whose trion replenishes with food and rest compared to one-use trion soldiers. Also, when taking into consideration the impression given to civilians, there are no plans currently to deploy Trion Soldiers with the defense squads. |
| 215 | What happens to the remains of the defeated Trion Soldiers? A: After they are retrieved and made into samples for examining the structure, they are turned back into Trion and stored inside the base. |
| 216 | Do they patrol the Forbidden Zone during defense duty? Or are they on standby somewhere like a guardroom and are dispatched when Neighbors appear? A: Basically, they patrol near the boundary line that surrounds the Forbidden Zone which has the bases of the five branches (excluding Tamakoma) as points. When the opening of the Gates are very active, the squads on standby in HQ base are deployed as reinforcements. |
| 217 | During the Second Large-Scale Invasion, the initial response was 8 Squads, but are the same numbers used for normal defense duty too? A: Regular defense duty has 1 squad deployed to each of the 5 branches, so 5 Squads altogether. |
| 218 | Is defense duty done on shifts? A: Basically it is a 3 shift system with 5 Squads each. defense duty comes about once every 2 days, but frequently there are "mixed squads" being made up of agents who have free time or want more wages, so the actual frequency of work is about once every 3 days. Also, Reiji, Konami, Jin, and HQ Director Shinoda each count as 1 squad. |
| 219 | Are everyone basically in their Trion Bodies when in Border's base? A: There are the "always in Trion Body faction", and the "usually more flesh body faction". Being in a Trion Body is less tiring, but there is the rumor that people start having trouble sleeping because of that. |
| 220 | How much awareness is there in Border that Yūma is a Neighbor? A: At this point, excluding Tamakoma Branch, it seems the only ones who know are Border's upper management and those who participated in the fight over the Black Trigger (volumes 3, and Volume 4). People like Chano Squad are also pretty suspicious. |
| 221 | Triggers are needed to enter and leave the base, but do they never get lost or stolen? A: Very rarely there are uproars over triggers being lost or stolen, but all trigger holders' current location can be tracked by HQ's system, so besides the case of Hatohara – which was judged as her having gone to the Neighborhood – there aren't any actual examples of triggers being lost. |
| 222 | How are the people (Squads) in charge of enlistment guidance decided? A: Taking into consideration the impression given to the newly enlisted agents, the accomplishments in their position, and personality, they are chosen from agents who are free at the time. Enlistment guidance is one of Arashiyama Squad's jobs, so they are chosen pretty much every single time. |
| 223 | Please tell us the names of the schools affiliated with Border. A: According to the data passed on to the anime staff, the normal school: "First Mikado City High School", prep school: "Rokueikan High School". Also, Border isn't affiliated with it, but the posh girl's school that people like Konami attend seems to be called "Seirin Girls Academy". |
| 224 | Border has many students, but can they participate in school events? A: Shifts are managed so they can accommodate the participation of school trips or cultural festivals and so on. Compared to long ago, the number of college agents or older have increased, so it seems easier to adjust the shifts now. |
| 225 | Do the children who don't go to college (don't enter higher-level education) find employment with Border? Or is it possible to get a normal job while acting as Border? A: Depending on the person's ability and wishes, it is possible to get a job in Border HQ. To get a normal job while still acting as Border will mean it is impossible to regularly participate in Rank Wars or defense duty, so they will be transferred to one of the branches. |
| 226 | Is the name "Meeden" that the Neighbor gave to the world on this side (Earth) standard everywhere? A: It seems to have become the standard everywhere since quite a long time ago. |
| 227 | From the viewpoint of the nations of Neighborhood is Meeden (Earth) special? Or do they see it as one of the other nations? A: With the two points "a different civilization that isn't a trigger civilization", and "a population fairly larger than the Neighborhood's", it seems to be treated as a "special nation/world". |
| 228 | Are the sun and moon of the Neighborhood different for each nation? Are those suns and moons based on the same logic as Meeden's? A: They are of a different logic from Meeden's. The Neighborhood's suns are artificial miniature heavenly bodies created and managed by the god of each planetary nation. The moons and stars visible at night are the other planetary nations floating in the Neighborhood sky. |
| 229 | What do Neighbors call themselves or their own world? Do they use Neighbor or Neighborhood? A: They usually see themselves as citizens of their nation (citizen of Aftokrator etc.) and calls themselves that, there is no word that includes all them like "earthling" at this point. |
| 230 | How are Squads formed? A: There are cases where B-rank agents with more than 4,000 points come together and form a squad, or cases where the squad breaks up and the now free B-rank or higher agents find members and re-form a squad. In either case, if the signatures of all the members are gathered on the regulation paperwork and handed in, they are accepted on that very day. It's the same when agents withdraw from a squad or gets added to one. |
| 231 | Are there any two person teams with captain + Operator or captain (Operator) + agent? A: There are. B-rank Urushima Squad is a two person team with that configuration. |
| 232 | Why are there more 4 people composition Squads including the Operator than 5? A: Because increasing combatants from 3 people to 4 people adds to the Operator's burden by a lot, and, unable to provide sufficient information support, agents actually get taken down more easily. It can be said that teams that win with four agents is a testament to the skills of their Operator. |
| 233 | What exactly do the Operators do? A: They project various information in the field of view of the agents in battles in real time. Tags for enemies displayed on Radar, routes for the squad to regroup or escape paths, warnings for enemies coming from the side or back and for Snipers, predictions of enemy movements, development diagrams for strategies, etc. etc. The more skilled the Operator, the better they can narrow down the displayed information to only what's important, and make it so that agents can take it in naturally. |
| 234 | Are Operators in flesh bodies? Or Trion Bodies? A: They are in Trion Bodies, but because there are many people with low trion ability who become Operators, basically they have no weapons or Bail Out function. |
| 235 | What kind of training do the people who enlist as an Operator do until they join a team? A: New Operators first work as "central Operators" who process work for the base as a whole. After learning the basics and how to operate the equipment there, if they want to transfer to squad Operator they can hand in their notice, and if they are chosen for a newly formed squad or a squad that has lost an Operator, then they openly become one of the team. |
| 236 | Can B-rank agents not belonging to a squad rise to A-rank on their own? A: It is basically impossible to rise to A-rank on your own. At the very least you need to form a 2 person team with an Operator and win through the Rank Wars. If you rise to A-rank and the squad breaks up then you are treated as an A-rank solo agent until you form a new team. In this case you can't participate in the team Rank Wars. Right now, Jin is in this position. |
| 237 | Back in the age of the old-timer members, did they become official agents or A-ranks without combined training or Rank Wars? Or was there a special exam or something they took for it? A: The A-rank squad framework was created after HQ base was created and agents had increased to a certain amount, so there was no A-rank before that. Team Rank Wars started after the overall number of agents had reached 3 digits, and at the time there was an advancement exam too, so it seems it was more trouble for the initial A-rank agents than it is now. |
| 238 | If an A-rank squad adds a B-rank agent, does their team rank have to start again from B-rank? Or do they stay A-rank? A: If they only add one person in 1 season then they stay A-rank. But newly added agents have more openings and are targeted a lot, so there is a so-so chance of being demoted as a result of the Rank Wars. In cases where a second or third person is added in the same season then there are cases where the squad is demoted to match the rank of those members. |
| 239 | In cases where A-rank agents want to separate from their current team and create a new one, do they start again from B-rank? And is that possible? A: It is possible. The rank of the new squad is "the rank of the lowest ranking member in the new squad". If a team is made with just A-rank agents, then they start from A-rank (with the rank of the lowest ranking member), if even one B-rank agent is added then they start from B-rank (with the rank of the lowest ranking member). |
| 240 | Exactly what numbers are used to decide the Separate Position ranking and the Solo Overall ranking? Is it the highest solo points? Or the total points of all the weapons? A: It is the highest of the solo points. The Solo Overall ranking is decided from all the weapon points of all the agents based on who has the highest. From all of the Shooters, Ninomiya's Asteroid points are the highest -> Shooter ranking no.1. From all weapons of all of the agents, Tachikawa's Kogetsu points are the highest -> Solo Overall no.1, like that. If there was a total point ranking then Reiji would probably be no.1. |
| 241 | After Attackers or Gunners amassed 4,000 points and rose to B-rank, are they demoted back to C-rank if they fall below 4,000 points in Rank Wars? A: They aren't demoted if they fall below 4,000, but regulations say if any of their triggers ever fall below 1,500 they will be demoted and removed from their team. But there has yet to be an agent who was demoted to C-rank due to this regulation. |
| 242 | After rising to B-rank, how many points do you start with when you start using a new trigger? A: Basically you start from 3,000 points. If you're already at Master Class (8,000 points) with a weapon, then you start from 4,000 points. |
| 243 | When using offense triggers in both the main and sub sides, how are solo points allotted in Rank Wars? A: The trigger that dealt the final blow (did more damage) gets 70%, the trigger on the other side gets 30%. |
| 244 | Are there any requirements to become a captain? What kind of duties does a captain have? A: There aren't any requirements to become a captain, but if I have to say it's "being able to assemble the squad's members". A captain's duties is preparing reports once a month, and being responsible for attending the captain's meeting that is held after the end of every rank war season. |
| 245 | Can official agents only receive solo points from Rank Wars and rewards for services? And are the rewards for services conferred on a team basis awarded to each member? A: Besides Rank Wars and rewards for services, solo points can be earned from defense duty and events set up by Border employees (1-on-1 One Day Tournaments and so on). Points and reward money passed to the whole team is awarded to each member. If someone also received the reward as a single person, they get it duplicated. |
| 246 | Where can you practice for team play and how do you do it? Can you have mock battles for team competitions? A: If you fiddle with the setting of the solo rank war booths then team battles are also possible. Competing in mixed squads instead of your normal team happens quite often too. |
| 247 | Can Trappers like Fuyushima participate in solo Rank Wars? A: Due to the nature of the Trapper position, they cannot participate in solo Rank Wars or combined training. There are still only a small number of Trappers, so they exchange information and research within themselves. |
| 248 | How are uniform designs decided? A: By consulting with the designers in the R&D department and having them design it for you. Generally, it's just rearranging the tracksuit type that makes up the base, but it is possible to leave it to the designer and get something flashy made or bring your own design to have made. |
| 249 | How are the Play-by-play and the commentary for Rank Wars decided? A: Taketomi finds Operators and agents that look free and sound them out. |
| 250 | Can conversations inside training rooms and Rank Wars be heard from the outside? A: Basically it can't be heard, but it seems you can change the setting so it can be. |
| 251 | Does A-rank and B-rank Attackers or Gunners not have combined training? A: For Attackers and Gunners (Shooters), Rank Wars are their combined training. The cycle goes: practicing in Rank Wars -> reviewing what needs to be done better alone or with the team and improving on it -> practicing again in the Rank Wars. |
| 252 | Why couldn't upper B-ranks like Ninomiya Squad or Kageura Squad participate in the Second Large-Scale Invasion? Did they travel far away on their time off? A: It seems I lost the chance to draw it in the story itself so I'll write it here: "HQ Director Shinoda gave the order that B-rank and lower agents are not allowed to participate in the fight until all members of the team are present". It seems he was worried about agents acting on their own and getting captured by Rabbits. Of course, there are also teams like Kako Squad who was late to the fight because their captain went out on a drive on her time off. |
| 253 | What happens to Trion Bodies if they're tossed into outer space? A: I think they will probably go into sleep mode and float in satellite orbit. If they plunge into the atmosphere of a planet, they will land on the surface of the land (or sea) without burning up. |
| 254 | Why is the emblem color of the Tamakoma members different for everyone? A: Because they're using that to show off their stylishness. |
| 255 | If a cockroach shows up in Tamakoma Branch who takes the initiative to kill it first? A: Yōtarō. Next is Yūma or Reiji. |
| 256 | Why do the clothes of the Aftokrator group in their flesh bodies have such wide necks? A: It is because it would catch on their horns if the necks are narrow. |
| 257 | Tamakoma has their own mark, but does Suzunari Branch not have a Suzunari mark even though they're also a branch? A: They don't have one yet right now. It seems that if Suzunari First rises to A-rank, that A-rank emblem will become Suzunari's mark. |
| 258 | Is the "BLACK USAGI" (trans: rabbit) that 3 Idiots #1 wore the same brand of shirts as the "BLACK WOLF" that Murakami wore? A: According to Manager who designed it, they seem to both be from the brand "BLACK series". It seems there are also others like "BLACK MONKEY", "BLACK KIRIN" (trans: giraffe), and "BLACK SHIMAUMA" (trans: zebra). |
| 259 | Does Mikado City have any famous products or local specialties? A: The most famous is the "Mikado Mikan". It is sweet and delicious. |
| 260 | There are a lot of snacks being eaten in Tamakoma Branch, but who prepares them? A: Mostly Usami, sometimes Konami, and very rarely Branch Director Rindō. |
| 261 | How many long was the Second Large-Scale Invasion from start to finish? A: It started at lunchtime, and ended while the sun was still high in the sky, so it seems to be about 2 hours. |
| 262 | Does Suzunari Branch have a mascot like how Tamakoma has Raijinmaru? A: They have Taichi Betsuyaku, a mascot who spreads destruction. |
| 263 | It seems a popular menu in Tamakoma Branch is Reiji's meat meat meat veggie stirfry, what is Suzunari branch's popular menu? A: Kon is good at cooking so they are happy with anything. In the current timeframe in the story (February) crab zosui gruel and sukiyaki hotpot are popular too. Also chicken cutlets with cheese. |
| 264 | Is Tamakoma's cooking on a shift system? I want to know what everyone's special dish is. A: It is on a shift system, and Tamakoma Second counts as one group with the 3 of them. They don't have a special dish yet. Jin's special dish is hotpot, Karasuma's is the Italian food he cooks at his part-time job, Reiji's is anything, Branch Director Rindō's is Hamburg steaks, Usami's is tempura and karaage chicken. Konami can only make curry. |
| 265 | What is the difference between writing "Tamakoma Second" (trans: kanji) and "Tamakoma 2nd" (arabic numerals)? A: When writing vertically it is "Tamakoma Second", when writing horizontally it is "Tamakoma 2nd", when it isn't like that it's a mistake or typo. "Suzunari First" is written in kanji both vertically and horizontally, when it isn't it's a mistake. |
| 266 | Are there any agents other than Arashiyama Squad who are well-known to the townspeople or popular with them? A: People like Nasu who had a special feature on TV, A-rank No.1's Tachikawa, ex-model Osano, and Osamu who became famous with the press conference are well-known to the townspeople. |
| 267 | Tamakoma First is called the strongest squad, but frankly speaking are they stronger than Tachikawa Squad? A: Thanks to the existence of the keyperson Takeru Yuiga, I can state conclusively that Tamakoma First is definitely stronger. |
| 268 | Are there any characters who wear contact lenses? A: Fuyushima, Kunichika, Hitomi, Kon, and Kagami. |
| 269 | Do agents over the age of majority drink alcohol? If they do, I want to know the order of who can hold their drinks. A: From the order of who can hold their drinks the most, it is: Branch Director Rindō, Netsuki, Tsutsumi, Commander Kido, Azuma, Kako, Fuyushima, Suwa, Terashima, Ninomiya, Sawamura, Reiji, Tachikawa, HQ Director Shinoda, Kazama, Karasawa. Kinuta is a non-drinker. |
| 270 | When someone new is introduced and in characters' profiles in the manga volumes their ages are recorded, but is this calculated from their first appearance? A: Just think of it as from the point of time when the profile was published and you won't go wrong. |
| 271 | The bodies the members of Old Border transform into have changed a lot between 4 and a half years ago and now, when was the design altered? A: Around the time when the HQ base was completed and the number of Engineers increased, they realized that "hey now we can change the design of the clothes too" and redid the designs. |
| 272 | Please tell us what the agents who received rewards of service used their reward money on. A: Put it into savings, gave it to their parents, ate an expensive meal with the team, bought clothes, paid their tab, changed their mobile phone, donated it, got their license, bought a new air conditioner, bought games, went to the hotsprings with their family, started living on their own, bought a bicycle, left it in their desk and forgot about it, and so on. |
| 273 | Why is the cross-section of Reiji's stomach when he was sliced by Organon in Chapter 62 different from Tsutsumi's cross-section in Chapter 89? I couldn't help but wonder so I had to ask. A: Basically there is no difference, but in Rank Wars the Trion smoke is drawn white, so it seems Tsutsumi's cross-section in Chapter 89 look white because of the Trion smoke covering it. |
| 274 | I want to know how Sensei makes manga. A: When it comes to drawing the pictures I don't really do anything different, so is OK if I talk about how I storyboard? When I'm making storyboards for a week's worth of serialization, I first write out everything I want to do, then cut it down until it fits into 19 pages. I don't really have much trouble thinking up ideas, what takes time is crying as I cut out scenes. I do the beginning and the end first, so I also worry how best to connect them. More and more changes are added as I cut, so I write them out in words in a word processor first (because redrawing pictures is a lot of work). Once 19 pages have been settled, then I start breaking down the panels, like that. When I'm told to draw a one-shot, I first decide what I want to draw (what I want to do in that one-shot), then I make the characters with that as the focal point, then I try putting them in a setting and find which arrangement makes the story go the most smoothly. Characters that are hard to move or ones that don't really show up are cut out at this point. When the story doesn't go well I fiddle with the setting and background. I don't really fiddle with protagonists. When I fiddle with the protagonist, if I don't do it with the intention of making a different character, the original image sticks with me and I don't think that's good. After that, I make the characters interact with each other, connect the scenes that look like they'll turn interesting, redo the composition so I don't divert from what I want to draw, add a bit of ingenuity and then the end, is how I do it I think. This probably also has to be written out in words first before drawing so it can fit inside the stipulated number of pages. The "Elite with Talent Jin" that is published in this book was also created this way more or less. What I wanted to draw in "Jin" was "the awesomeness of the elite with talent I thought up". From experience, I get the feeling that the more difficult it is to make the storyboard the more doubtful the reception from readers, storyboards that came about quite smoothly get better reception. It might mean that the smoother it is to draw the smoother it is to read. |
| 275 | When making characters, where do you start, the appearance, personality, profile or something else? A: For characters in serialized works, the first thing I decide is the "name". If I decide on a realistic and fitting name then the image wells up in me on its own, and since I start making them interact with other characters in my head, it's pretty much more than half done. For one-shots, there's like a "component required of that character", so once I've got that down, I decide what kind of name would suit that. And then it's the same as serialized works. |
| 276 | Of the characters from World Trigger, which names do Sensei like? A: I like Yūma, Replica, Jin, Usami, Kitora, Miwa, Mikami, Utagawa, Tachikawa, Izumi, Kunichika, Tōma, Satori, Tokieda, Arafune, Inukai, Nasu, Kon, Chano, Terashima, Ranbanein, Enedora, Marmod, Rabbit. |
| 277 | What do you do when you are stuck on a storyboard or when making the story isn't going well? A: I change the characters' arrangements and try fiddling with various things. If even that doesn't go well, I write out the problems in the part where I'm stuck and summarize them, then do something else. If I get all the problems down, the brain gathers information on its own to solve the problems, so just by talking to people or taking a bath the solution will come to me. |
| 278 | Is World Trigger drawn digitally? Or analog? A: The characters up until the draft are done analog, inking and the finishing touches are done digitally. Backgrounds are analog up to the inking, and only the finishing touches are done digitally. |
| 279 | Why isn't the weight in characters' profiles? A: Because compared to the height the weight changes day by day. |
| 280 | How are the characters on the cover of the manga volumes decided? A: I draw the character that showed up in that volume, that played an active role in that volume, that I wanted to draw at that time. |
| 281 | Why and how did you come up with your own zodiac? A: It was something I thought up as a game when I was about 20, I like it so I used it. At the time it was 14 signs of the zodiac along with the Otter (かわうそ座, Kawauso-za ?) and the Tiger (とら座, Tora-za ?). |
| 282 | How many hours a day on average does Ashihara-sensei sleep? And is that in a bed? Or a futon? A: Before, the cycle used to be sleeping 3~4 hours a day and pulling all-nighters before the deadline, then sleeping 8 hours once the manuscript was done. After I hurt my neck I started sleeping 6 hours a day. Even nowadays I sometimes pull all-nighters before the deadline depending on the circumstances. When I sleep it's in a futon on the floor. |
| 283 | What does Sensei pay attention to/keep in mind when making characters? A: It's just normal, but I take care not to run away and use "manga character stereotypes" (like how the villain is like this, the rival is like this). I think about how I'd like the characters' each and every action and speech to convey a sense of humanity when I draw. |
| 284 | World Trigger is rare for a shounen battle manga and depicts "group battles", why did you think of drawing group battles? Please tell us if you have any hangups on this. A: It is because it is easier to write developments for group battles compared to 1-on-1. There are a lot of components, so I can create or change the course of events without forcing it. Drawing it becomes very difficult though…. In 1-on-1 the protagonist must do his best with his own power, there aren't that many factors that can tip the scales of victory and defeat, and it is very difficult to draw the battle itself so that it is interesting and satisfying. (That's why I think many works rely on drama or a sense of exhilaration) |
| 285 | How do you think up the World Trigger's story with all that minute foreshadowing? A: Are they at the point of being called foreshadowing…. I just let out beforehand a little of the contents that I will draw one day, so it's more like a lead-up than foreshadowing. It's important to think of future developments up to a point beforehand? |
| 286 | How do you think of the strategies and techniques for battle scenes? A: If the situation and characters are decided properly, in general the characters think them up themselves. I just fiddle with the situation. So I think the circumstances before the battle and the characters' arrangements are important. |
| 287 | When it comes to the contents of the battle/depicting tactics, what do you refer to and take heed of? A: Maybe how it's easier when there are weak characters. Strong and composed characters cannot become effective surprise roles, and the story has a tendency of becoming matter-of-fact, so I think it's really great that Osamu is weak. Also, making sure it doesn't become technical. I've read some books on military strategy and so on, but I don't use any ideas that look like they won't be conveyed well in a manga. If it's too professional the readers can't understand it, and I think it will lose a sense of reality. |
| 288 | Not restricted to World Trigger, what does Ashihara-sensei think is the most important thing when it comes to drawing manga or art? A: I think, as expected, the most important thing is "what is interesting" (drawing while considering how to convey interest), but my personal theme is "stimulating the imagination of readers". |
| 289 | Are there any hangups on the differences in first person pronouns (hiragana ore, katakana ore, kanji ore)? A: "Hiragana ore" has a sociable image, "katakana ore" has a youthful image, "kanji ore" has an adult image. This kind of difference in writing is a kind of expression that is in manga but not anime or other things, so I end up wanting to use them. The difference in speech bubbles is like that too. |
| 290 | Which chapter does Sensei like the best/has the most emotional attachment to? A: There are two, "Chapter 79" and "Chapter 85". For "Chapter 79", I had decided from the beginning that I would do this for the climax of the Second Large-Scale Invasion, so even though I went down a different route from what I had planned, I'm glad I was able to reach it naturally. "Chapter 85" is what I had thought up as the last chapter of the series when I hurt my body and couldn't move at all, so even now when I read it I feel deeply moved. |
| 291 | What lines from the story does Sensei like? A: I like Usami: "Let's increase the glasses population!", Suwa: "Come on, Mister Black Trigger", Izumi: "Exciting animal bastard", Miwa: "Drop dead", Osano: "Don't know any of them", Hokari: "Has it come? A new wave in the world of Snipers". As expected, I like the dialogue that characters came up with on their own. |
| 292 | Which Triggers do Sensei want to use? A: Vorvoros, Viper, Lead Bullet, Escudo. For now, I just want to use a Trion Body and try jumping around. |
| 293 | Please tell us Sensei's favorite female character! A: Hmmmm, as expected it's Kitora. Outstanding but awkward, that is she has some immature areas and I like that. Next by a slim margin is Usami maybe. |
| 294 | Who is Sensei most similar to in World Trigger? A: I'm sorry to say there aren't any…. |
| 295 | Please tell us which characters you view as a hot man, handsome man, beautiful woman, or beautiful girl when you draw them. A: People like Karasuma, Narasaka, Arashiyama, Kitora, Ayatsuji, Nasu, and Ninomiya. |
| 296 | Is Sensei's taste in women with short hair? A: It seems so. It's not that I don't like long hair, but I think I like faces that look good with short hair. |
| 297 | What food does Ashihara-sensei like? A: Pork cutlet. The loin faction. |
| 298 | Is Sensei a cat person? Or a dog person? A: I have owned both dogs and cats at home, but I am overwhelmingly a cat person. |
| 299 | When Sensei started World Trigger, how much did you research on SF? Did you like SF from the start? A: Only to the extent of reading the old SF novels I've liked from before, I didn't really do any research. My awareness of SF as a genre is that it is "works where the world in the story is affected by a single technology or system/idea that doesn't exist in real life", so stories like "Death Note" count as SF to me. If I have to say, what I like might be closer to what Fujiko F Fujio-sensei called SF (Sukoshi Fushigi/A little peculiar). Because I like Doraemon. |
| 300 | Please tell us the books that Ashihara-sensei likes/those that have left a deep impression on you. A: There are a lot, but one is Shincho Bunko's "Riryō Sangetsuki". My friend gave it to me when graduating high school, it feels like I learned the foundations of what makes a character from the protagonist of the middle part "Disciple", Shiro. "Riryō" is interesting too. |
| 301 | What movies does Sensei like? A: There are a lot for this one too, it's difficult. If I choose something other people might not nominate, it's Chaplin's "the Kid". The characters' relationships and the way it was depicted left a deep impression on me. I also like "Back to the Future" and "How to Train Your Dragon" for the same reasons. |
| 302 | What sports does Sensei like? A: I don't really like exercising…. For watching, maybe tennis. I watched Wimbledon late at night a lot. I didn't believe in the existence of a "flow" of the match at all until then, but for the first time I felt that personally and became aware of it. A special sport. |
| 303 | I want to know who this manager, Koma, is, who has been around since the one-shot, and what jobs they do. A: They do everything Ashihara doesn't do. Checking the plot, all the finishing touches on characters, adding in sound effects on Ashihara's specifications, inking the speech bubbles, uploading the manuscript data to the publishers, thinking up ideas for the bonus pages in the manga volumes and the layout, checking the color manuscripts and so on in the production side. They are also a capable manager who manages the calculating of the staff's salaries, corresponding with the accountant, buying lunch, ordering consumable goods, simple cleaning of the workplace, gossiping with the editor, and even reviewing soap operas. Favorite food is gyouza, favorite meat is beef skirt steak, favorite paper product is the 10,00yen note, favorite Nanto General (trans: from Fist of the North Star) is Suichouken's Rei. Their shortcoming is that they are noisy about the bust of female characters. |
BBF Other QnAs
[edit source]| qzo= | QnA |
|---|---|
| 1 | Q: How did you come up with the story? A: Before I consider the story, first I think about the characters and the world of the story. I put the characters in there and move them around a bit, cutting out the bits that look like they'll be interesting, so it's not so much that I come up with a story but more like the characters are there first and then I pursue the actions they take. |
| 2 | Q: Why did you want to draw a science fiction story, Ashihara-sensei? A: It's not so much that I "wanted to draw SF", it's more correct to say "it became SF in the end". After my previous work "Super Dog Rilienthal" ended, I thought of drawing a manga that is Shōnen Jump-like, with competition as the main theme. So at first I was going to draw a sports manga, but when I discussed it with my editor, he said "No, it's better if you can do as you please. Isn't it more interesting to make something new?", so I said "then I guess I'll think about it". On another occasion, I had thought of a story about alien technology coming to earth and everyone using it. In Jump, even if the protagonist has a strange power, it's usually a case of "that power belongs only to that person", but if everyone can use it to the same extent I feel like some interesting things could be done with it, and the sports manga components that I had thought up might be able to be included as well. By adding in that idea, it turned into SF. |
| 3 | Q: It has been conjectured that you were influenced by some sort of SF story, so please tell us if there are any movies, TV series, novels and so on that you particularly like. A: I don't usually read or watch things focusing on SF…but during the break after my previous serialisation had ended and I was reading various books, I read the classic Robert A. Heinlein and so on. "Starship Troopers" for instance…also I read "Tunnel in the Sky" once when I was in middle school and it left a deep impression on me. I think I received quite a lot of influence from the premise of "a teleportation device with another world on the other side". With Japanese works, I have liked "Doraemon" for a long time. I really liked strange technology that no one has seen before, in the real world, and then using them to do something. |
| 4 | Q: Continuing from "Super Dog Rilienthal", "World Trigger" is your second serialization with "Weekly Shōnen Jump”" Ashihara-sensei, what kind of similarities and differences are there? A: I think the similarities are that both works have "the characters driving the story". First came the characters, and as the characters come together something happens, and chasing that becomes the story…that process might be similar. What's different is that the characters in "Rilienthal" don't really act in terms of winning or losing. It has a sense of "it's fine if I lose, someone else capable will probably save me", so by everyone saving each other, things turn out alright in the end…is the kind of relationship in there. But with "World Trigger", like I said before, I wanted to draw a story about competition, so even weak people must fight with their own power. That is a big difference, and I think a harsh story for the characters too. |
| 5 | Q: When you first thought of "World Trigger", how did it change from the current developments? And are there any potential new developments that you hadn't thought of when the story started? A: The biggest change from the premise I thought of at first are Yūma and Osamu's roles. With Yūma and Osamu's characters, their personalities were in place from the beginning. Yūma is very capable, doesn't really consider difficult stuff and just jumps straight in. In comparison, Osamu wants to do the right thing but doesn't really have the strength for it…something like that. And at first Yūma was the Border agent. And Osamu was a normal child who hadn't enlisted in Border yet. The two of them meet, and Osamu joins Border…is the story I had thought up…. Yūma and Osamu are the complete opposite of each other the way I saw it, so might as well just make everything the opposite I thought, and made Yūma a character on the enemy Neighbor side. That was the biggest change. Thanks to that, the story could go down a slightly unusual path too. Osamu is an underling on the Border side, so it's a position with quite a bit of hardship though (lol). |
| 6 | Q: Can you explain Osamu and Yūma's relationship? A: From the beginning, I had imagined them working together. I thought it's more fun to make them the complete opposite if I'm partnering them up, so I made them characters the opposite of each other. Yūma and Osamu's difference is that Osamu is a child that endures quite a lot. Even if he's bullied, he thinks it's better to endure it. But Yūma is a child who came from somewhere completely different, he's a child who pays back anything done to him. A character who thinks, if he doesn't pay them back for what's done to him, he'll be pushed all the way to the bottom. Because that's the kind of life he'd lead…so I think that is where the biggest gap between these characters is. I was very conscious of ch1~3 as where that gap between the two of them is steadily revealed when I drew them. |
| 7 | Q: If you were to enlist in Border, Ashihara-sensei, what would your position be? A: I wonder…I think a Gunner seems fun. But I'm very bad at athletics (lol), maybe Operator (lol). hey haven't really shown up in the story much, but there's a department of Engineers, and they make and adjust triggers. I think I might have fun there too. |
| 8 | Q: Who is the character most similar to you, Ashihara-sensei? A: Who is most similar to me…? This is really troubling me…I don't really put myself into my works. I wonder who? When I was young, around elementary school age, I was like Osamu (lol). What about now…There's a child with glasses in Miwa Squad, that child hasn't done anything yet, but he's a whiz at analyzing. Since he analyses and uses that in his fighting, that child contributes to his team. I like analyzing too, so I quite like Kodera. I want to give him an active role in the future. |
| 9 | Q: "World Trigger" is quite a serious story, but the pictures and so on under the cover are very funny. It seems you are quite good at comedy, but that is not really shown in "World Trigger", so is that why you put it into the extras? A: I have liked for a long time how, when it comes to manga, "in the extras a totally different side from the main story can be seen". In the main story of "World Trigger", I also want to do some comedic bits, but, well, it's a serious story in general, what should I do…. But if it's too serious won't it be tiring to read (lol)? |
| 10 | Q: There are a lot of characters, but did you want to have a great number of characters like a sports manga from the beginning? A: When I decide on a character, I start from just the name. Once I decide on a name, I get a feeling of: ah, this is the kind of guy they are. So like that I made about 100 people for the time being. In the case of "World Trigger", it was decided when it began that an organization called Border was going to show up, so I thought up the characters squad by squad. And in that team, the captain has this kind of personality, the two people under them are characters who look after that person…that's the kind of stuff I thought about. Then I introduce them in order, from the ones I thought were interesting, so there's certainly a lot of them, and more to come, probably (lol). |
| 11 | Q: What is the most fun thing about a weekly serialization? A: As expected, it's really fun when readers react to the story. Shōnen Jump has a survey system, and becoming more popular bit by bit as the serialization went on made me really happy. Especially when I have an aim: "if I do this they might find it interesting", and it hits its mark and the survey results were good. Next is when readers send in fanletters. I really like reading their impressions and seeing the story from a different angle than what I had assumed. |
| 12 | Q: In Jump's ending comments you have stuff like "Volume 2 is out!", acting very happy over the publication, but do you actually go to bookstores to see the comics on the shelves? A: I didn't really go to see them myself. In my place, all the staff go for me, and send me reports by text like: "it's there~". That is enough to satisfy me (lol). |
| 13 | Q: I think there's an official twitter for "World Trigger", but was that your idea or the editing department's suggestion? A: My editor said "I want to do one", so I just said sure. Right now, there's a corner where questions from letters from the fans are answered on twitter, that was something I suggested we could do. |
| 14 | Q: Please tell us about your hobbies. A: There isn't any time to spend on hobbies while in the middle of a weekly serialization. But thinking about manga was my hobby from the beginning…when I was between serializations, I watched movies, read books, played games and so on, but in the end it all came back to making manga. Well, that is my biggest hobby I think (lol). I play games quite a lot, and I've played American games that were localized in Japanese. One I liked a lot recently was "Skyrim". The worldbuilding was very solid, and all the characters felt like they really exist, that's the kind of thing I like. Another thing I found distinctive was how foreign games like "Skyrim" have mods. It's okay for fans to modify it. That was really shocking! Fans steadily making new weapons and characters, or buildings. That was really fun, and I thought it'd be nice if Japanese games did this too (lol). Stuff like that, the fun of everyone changing and creating, in "World Trigger" that would be the triggers. They are technology from another world, but everyone on this side is modifying them and they're changing steadily. Also, in the world on the other side, there are many nations, but each nation is created and managed by its own people. I really like that feeling of things being made by people's hands, so I think that influences me quite a lot. |
| 15 | Q: What currently serializing works in "Jump" (besides "World Trigger") do you like? Do you have the time to read them? A: I don't really have the time, and I'm sorry to say that I haven't read them all properly. Before, I was just a reader and just enjoyed them, but once I become one of the artists I start analyzing them with a creator's eyes, so it might be quite difficult to read them purely like before…but there are quite a lot of times when I feel "I really like this chapter". Recently, ones like "Haikyuu!!", or "Saiki Kusuo no Sainan", it feels like they're already doing the stuff I wanted to do (lol). "Haikyuu!!" is a sports manga, and sports have a bit of a strange feel to me. Even the opponents share the same skills, so you can teach each other, can't you. So the relationship is a bit different from a normal war, and I wanted to draw that too, so right now I'm learning from "Haikyuu!!" (lol). Next, in "Saiki Kusuo no Sainan", the protagonist doesn't really think approvingly of superpowers. In "World Trigger" too there is the "Side Effect" element, but while they are very useful abilities, how do I say it, they are also quite inconvenient, i.e. maybe because of that ability the person's life becomes a little more tiring, and "Saiki Kusuo no Sainan" did that first, so I think "yeah, that's right" as I read it. |
| 16 | Q: From all of your "experiences" until now, which one is the most useful for a manga artist? A: After I graduated high school, I had a part-time job at the front desk of a business hotel, that really comes in handy. I hadn't really communicated with people properly until then; I hadn't needed an ability to communicate beyond what was necessary when playing with friends. But during that period, at the part-time job I was communicating with guests and my bosses, and I think it really comes in handy now. Even when I'm talking with my editor, I think my experiences from that time really come into play. So it's not so much with manga, but these experiences are useful when it comes to working a job. |
| 17 | Q: Which character is the most fun to draw, and which is the hardest? Also, if there is a reason please tell us. A: The characters who're fun to draw are Kitora and Usami from Tamakoma Branch. With male characters, ones like Yōsuke are fun to draw. Kitora's personality is quite two-faced. She is a harsh child, but, how should I say it, is actually quite dumb. I like that kind of character, so she's fun to draw. With Usami and Yōsuke, the fact that they're having fun with life comes through even to me as I draw them. There's a feeling that "this guy is really living freely as they want" and "living life as they like". I like characters who feel like they're enjoying life. Maybe that's why they're fun to draw. Difficult is…maybe Jin. Jin is hard to draw too, because he has a weird hairstyle (lol). But what's inside is difficult too, and you might think he's very cheerful but he has quite a lot of darkness. Because he has the power to see the future, I think there are a lot of things he is seeing. That part shows on his face occasionally, so I'm thinking "I wonder what this guy is thinking" as I draw him (lol). So he's probably a guy with more going on than what Jin himself thinks there is. |
| 18 | Q: Replica tells Yūma "to use your black trigger or not, the one who decides that is you", but does that have a special meaning? A: I think that is probably the theme for the story as a whole. There is a line of thought that, when something happens, the one who makes the final decision is you yourself. So it's probably not just Yūma, but Osamu for instance, or for the other characters, there is probably a "turning point". Going down this path is a good thing for Border, but going down that path would break Border's rules. But when you really want to do something, the one who decides that is you yourself, and that theme is expressed by Replica saying it. Various characters stand in front of similar turning points, and, even if not Replica, other people might say something similar to them. |
| 19 | Q: Please say something to the overseas fans. A: I didn't think about people from overseas reading at all when I started, so I am very happy. I will draw so that the people overseas too will enjoy this from now on as well, so please keep reading (lol). Thank you! |
| 20 303Lessons |
Q: Were there any lessons learned from drawing ROOM 303 as you now go on to drawing World Trigger? A: I was very into suspense and mystery at the time and ROOM 303 contained elements of that. As part of that, the ideas of "how to reveal the information to the audience" is, I would like to think, also being put to use in World Trigger. It’s a fine point, but greatly influences the reading of a story. ROOM 303 wasn’t very kind to readers (rather, there were too many areas where it relied on the reader to make it work), and I think it would have been better if I made it easier to understand. |
| 21 BattleManga |
Q: To JUMP, ROOM 303 as a work is pretty different in a good way, but as you were drawing this, did you ever think that you would go on to draw a battle manga like World Trigger in the future? What kind of manga did you imagine you would draw as a serialising manga artist? A: As part of the generation that grew up on Dragonball, of course I wanted to draw a battle manga, and the work I brought in before ROOM 303 was a battle manga as well. But since the Tezuka Award has the pretty strict requirement of 31 pages, I realised that with my current composition abilities, a manga that requires many pages being used on action will not be able to let me showcase all of my ability, gave up on a battle manga and drew ROOM 303. But since I received a prize for this, I gained more interested in non-battle manga, so I am glad I did it. |
| 22 303Happenings |
Q: Please tell us of any happenings when you made this or any thoughts you have for this work. A: The first time I entered, I was told that my work was worthless and unapproachable, so this was my first revenge work after I’ve done some studying. I had made the decision, or rather had the goal of "gonna get the top prize!" That’s why, when I received news that I was one of the runner-ups, I remember being told I didn’t look very happy. Ah, youth. |
| 23 SpurredSF |
Q: Was there a reason that spurred you to wanting to draw something with a world view like "Talented Elite Jin" (or like World Trigger), a SF battle manga? A: After I finished my earlier work "Super Dog Rilienthal", I thought I should be more attentive that this is a shōnen magazine and do something that has winning and losing. There was even a period when I planned out a sports manga; but since I myself isn’t very sporty, I didn’t think I could draw it in an interesting way. Talking it over with my editor, Bapti-san, I was told that I should think about things more freely, so I gave up on existing competitions and went back to the drawing board with the rules of competition manga. The result is SF battle manga. Rather than wanting to draw SF, it felt more like SF was what fit the requirements. |
| 24 JinPersonality |
Q: Was there a reason that spurred you to drawing a character with Jin’s personality? A: When it turned into drawing this one-shot as a prototype for World Trigger, I wanted to set aside Yūma and Osamu for serialisation feeling that using them in the one-shot would be a waste. So I asked Bapti-san if I could use a different protagonist, was given the OK, and so the story came to be about Jin, created to be a senpai character to Yūma and Osamu. Rather than "let’s draw Jin", I judged that Jin would be easier to draw. Compared to Yūma and Osamu, Jin had an easy to understand character that was fitting for a one-shot, so it all worked out well. |
| 25 JinHappenings |
Q: Please tell us of any happenings when you made this or any thoughts you have for this work. A: About half a year before I drew "Jin", the 3.11 earthquake happened and I was shown non-committal big-wigs all day on TV. "If this reporting is real, then things must be pretty difficult where they are" I thought, and the image of the antagonist came to me from that. (I didn’t use anyone as a model or anything.) It might have been the first time I drew a manga with satire on the side. Also, during this period my relations with Bapti-san were kind of bad, so I was glad that the popularity of this work helped mend the fence. The result is what’s important. |

|---|---|
| 7 squad mandatory |
Q: If you become B-rank or A-rank do you have to join squads? (I want to read about the stories behind all the squads’ formations) A: To participate in rank wars, at the very least you need one combatant and one operator. Naturally, it’s more advantageous to have more members, so a squad with few members is quite a thorny path in comparison. |
| 8 radar snipe |
Q: When enemies show up on Radar, is it possible to use that to snipe? A: Compass points are displayed on Radar, but not elevation, so it seems impossible. Combined with the topography data that operators have, it is possible to grasp the approximate location of the mark, but it would be hard to pinpoint a human-sized opponent this way. |
| 9 radar optional |
Q: Are Radars and wires Optional Triggers? A: "Radar" is a Standard Equipment Trigger like trion bodies or the Bail Out function. "Spider", a Trigger that uses wires, is an Optional Trigger. |
| 10 yuu hokkaido |
Q: Is Kunichika from Hokkaido? (trans: a reference to the fact that her favourite food is ishigari nabe/salmon hotpot, a traditional Hokkaido dish) A: Her mother is. Her parents would send salmon hotpot sets, sea urchins, crabs, salmon roe and so on to them. Everyone eats them together. |
| 11 arashiyama names |
Q: Why do Arashiyama and his siblings have ‘second position’ type names? A: The person who named them, Arashiyama’s grandfather, apparently had something in mind when he chose them, but since he has passed away nobody knows for sure. The three of them seem pretty happy with it. |
| 12 mini replicas |
Q: How many Mini-Replicas can be released at a time? A: If the functions are limited to conversation and transmitting over the comms he can probably release about 200 of them. |
| 13 body where 2 |
Q: While you are in your Trion Body, where is the Trigger Holder that houses your flesh body? A: In another dimension (a dimension in the Neighborhood) an independent space has been set aside for the Trigger Holder to be stored. |
| 14 jjk |
Q: In the manga volume of "Jujutsu Kaisen," Akutami Gege announced the image songs for the characters; do World Trigger characters have any songs like that? A: Right now, only Yūma has a song connected to him. It’s Dash Through the Night (夜 を 駆ける, Yoru wo Kakeru ?) by Spitz. |
| 28 Yosuke Kill Me |
Q: After the fight between Miwa squad and Yūma at the old train station, Yōsuke, after triggering off, said “Do what you want! I tried to kill you. Can't complain if you kill me.” was he serious…? A: I think he was half joking. He is a 17 year old with too much guts. |
| 43 Nino Squad Summer |
Q: Speaking of Ninomiya squad, the black suit is that squad's trademark, but it looks like it would be hot in the midsummer. Do they have a summer uniform? A: I think "isn't it okay to wear black suits in the summer?", but wearing a black vest and rolling up their sleeved is more likely. |
| 44 Nino Ginger Ale |
Q: Ninomiya is well known for drinking ginger ale with his yakiniku. He's old enough to drink, so if he just not good with it? I love it. A: I don't think he's weak with alcohol, but he certainly doesn't like drinking. Maybe he made a mistake while drinking with the other 20 year olds. He's the type to get stuck on mistakes. (It probably wasn't even anything major) |
| 45 Ema Confess |
Q: Will Yuzuru ever confess to Chika? A: What do you think? "If... I'm selected for the away team, I'll confess..." if he said that he'd need to be careful (foreshadowing) |
| 46 Yuma Survival |
Q: I assume there were times, in harsh environments, where Yuma didn't get enough food, so did he ever had to eat insects and tree roots and such? Or did Replica manage to help get him good food to eat? A: Yuma has been traveling with his father, Yugo, since he was a small child, so he has good survival skills and never had a problem with food unless he was in a desert or something. He would use his trigger to gather birds, fish, small animals, nuts and wild plants, which he either boiled and roasted and ate to his heart's content. Plus his cheeks are round. |
| 47 Ema Join Squad |
Q: Will you tell us how Ema joined Kageura squad? (Is there a special story behind it?) How do the formation of squads differ from one another? Is Tamakoma an outlier? Can you generally form a squad with people you know? A: There isn't anything dramatic behind it. Hatohara and Toma discovered him when he did something exceptional in sniper training, and even though many squads were fighting each other over him, he was enthusiastically recruited by Hikari, who won the right to try by drawing lots, and he joined Kageura squad. The deciding factor was that "he liked that they weren't overly formal" |
| 48 Title Drop |
Q: Is it safe to assume that the title "World Trigger" will eventually be name dropped in the characters' dialogue, and any foreshadowing to be revealed? A: I've never drawn anything that could be considered "foreshadowing", so please don't hold your breath for a name drop (lol) "World Trigger" is in everyone's hearts! |
| 49 Away Test Shirt |
Q: The clothing given to the members of the closed environment test each have a different design on it, but frankly speaking, what is the significance behind them? A: To be frank, there is none, but it's possible that the manager who designed them had some reasoning behind them. For the artist's reasoning, what do you do with a change of clothes on the away ship? Do you wash them? -> It's just a way to smoothly and tastefully show that the clothes are made from Trion |
| 50 Ema Weapons |
Q: Can Yuzuru use other weapons? Is it impossible because of lack of skill? Or is he just inept when it comes to love and relationships? A: I think he could use Gunner triggers, but Yuzuru himself prefers "weapons with high, one-shot firepower", so his style is more geared towards using Ibis even at close range |
| 57 | Q: In Chapter 5, Yūma used both a normal trigger, and his black trigger at the same time. would it still be possible now that Replica is gone A: It seems it would be impossible without Replica. Replica is just that strong of a character. |
| 58 | Q: What traits does Border look for when scouting Operators? A: Stuff like personality, processing power, motivation, academic ability, and potential. |
| 59 | Q: Is it possible for a human to wear a Trion Soldier like a suit performer, jumping inside to put it on, or taking it off like a suit? A: It might be possible to hide inside something like the chest cavity of a Rabbit, but it would shake violently ,and likely cause motion sickness. Something like a powered exoskeleton seems feasible, although i Imagine an unmanned drone would be way more practical. |
| 60 | Q: Why is the size of Chika's cube that appeared with the temporary trigger link in Volume 8 significantly smaller in size from the cubes in Volume 20 and beyond? A: I believe the trion output was restricted because it was Osamu's trigger that was used for the temporary link. |
| 61 | Q: If a character's academic performance on the border entrance exam is remarkably bad, can they still make the cutoff if their other scores are good? A: People like Yōsuke, Taichi, and Hikari showed infinite potential. |
| 63 | Q: Among the 18 year olds who just graduated high school, have any of them started living alone? A: People like Inukai, Kurauchi, Arafune, and Kagami seem like they might be living alone. Although wasn't Tōma already living by himself? (vague) |
| 64 | Q: Can Alektor's bullets fuse together similar to border's composite bullets to create either hybrids or fantasy creatures? A: If Hyrein saw Izumi use a composite bullet during the large-scale invasion, then it is possible that ability might exist by now. |
| 65 | Q: Where do the people who were scouted from far away places live? A: They have three options: living at headquarters, living at a branch office, or living alone in the city. Only those living alone incur rent, but they receive assistance. |
| 66 | Q: Can Yūma's side effect of detecting lies activate even if he can't hear the liar's voice? A: He can't detect lies without hearing the voice, so silence completely blocks it. Surprisingly, his side effect might be weak when exposed. |
| 67 | Q: Please tell us whether Shinoda prefers bread or rice for breakfast. A: About 90% of the time, it's rice. |
| 68 | Q: Was Ikoma Squad always composed of the current four members since its formation? Was there a time when the members were different, including Mario-chan? A: The members from outside the prefecture (Iko-san, Mario, Mizukami, Oki) joined at the same time and apparently intended to form a team from the start. When they got promoted to B-Rank and actually formed Ikoma Squad, Kai was scouted. When they got promoted to B Rank and actually formed Ikoma Squad, Kai was scouted. |
| 69 | Q: At what age did Ikoma start practicing iaido? A: It seems to have been when he was in his first year of middle school (age 13). To rein in Ikoma, who was always trying to be silly and clown around, his strict grandfather stepped in. The result is the Ikoma we see today. How about that? |
| 70 | Q: Among the Galopoula Expedition Force members, besides Rata, are there any members who have (or had) siblings? I think Wen Sō probably has a younger sister. A: Gatlin has a younger brother, and Wen Sō has a half-sister and half-brother from her father's side. Koskero, who was an orphan, might have had siblings too. |
| 71 | Q: Does Ninomiya use honorific language when speaking to his parents? Does he give carnations on mother's day? A: I think he mostly communicates in his usual blunt manner. He does have respect for his parents, so after joining Border, he probably gives gifts on Father's Day and Mother's Day. |
| 72 | Q: Which schools do the two members of the Urushima Squad attend? A: Both are in the regular school group. Urushima is in 1-A, and Rokuta is in 2-C. |
| 73 | Q: How much does Hyuse know about Canada? A: He's playing the part of a Canadian with an attitude like, “I hear the seafood's good. Oh, and the snowy mountains.” Do your best Hyuse. |
| 74 | Q: What is the selection criteria for members of Azuma Squad? A: It depends on whether or not Azuma will give in when asked to become squad captain. What matters most is motivation. |
| 75 | Q: Were there any other squads besides Arashiyama Squad and Chano Squad that Netsuki considered as candidates for being a PR Squad? A: It seems like Ōji Squad might have been under consideration. |
| 76 | Q: Does Arashiyama turn girls into swiss cheese during Rank Wars? A: It seems people like Konami had holes punched into them just like anyone else. Once he turns his trigger on, everyone is fair game. |
| 77 | Q: When Arashiyama first joined Border, did he start as an Attacker (Kogetsu user) or a Shooter? A: He was placed as a founding member into the Gunner Training Project (a new position) because of this he seems to have started as a Gunner. |
| 78 | Q: When did Sōya Kazama's growth spurt end? A: I don't think it has even started. |
| 79 | Q: Please tell us the name of Miwa's sister? Q: I would like to know the name and age of Miwa's sister. A: Her name was Yuki (優希 ?). She was apparently 6 years older than Miwa. |
| 80 | Q: Does Yōko keep her cat-like persona of acting meek when she is actually bold when around Torimaru? A: Katori generally has high self-esteem, so I don't think she feels the need to act. |
| 81 | Q: Does the cool-headed Hana get shy around Arashiyama? A: I don't think it shows on her face, but deep down, she probably feels shy or nervous. |
| 82 | Q: What was Ninomiya's reaction when Kagami made the 3 towers during the Battle Simulation Exercise? A: He seems to have thought: "If this confused me, then this will confuse our opponents So it is all good." |
| 83 | Q: Did anyone notice that Ikoma's Wildflower In Bloom originally looked very... poopy. A: People like Ōji, Mizukami, Osano, and Kagami all gave suspicious glares. |
| 84 | Q: Is Ikoma, The Red Freesia of Border, knowledge about flowers? A: I think all he knows about flowers came from Mario. |
| 85 | Q: What is the win rate between Izumi, and Yōsuke in solo rank wars? My guess is Izumi 6/10, and Yōsuke 4/10... A: I think it is Izumi 6.5/10, and Yōsuke 3.5. However Yōsuke starts 100% of the matches. |
| 86 | Q: Haya Kittaka has two younger sisters. How old are they compared to her? Also, how do her sisters address her? A: The two sisters are Sakura (桜 ?) (5 years younger), and Kagome (かごめ ?) (3 years younger). They address her either as "big sis" or "Professor Chihaya Tachibana" (立花ちはや先生, Tachibana Chihaya-sensei ?). |
| 87 | Q: Does Suwa and Tsutsumi equip "Starmaker" during Rank Wars? It seems kinda pointless to use in matches. A: It is used as an anti trigger / counter pick against Chameleon. It is the type of trigger that "just having it makes a difference" as it can deter people from using Chameleon. |
| 88 | Q: Have Arafune, and Pokari attempted to rehabilitate Hanzaki so he doesn't complain so much. A: Since there's no sign that Pokari's inverted sentence structure was trying to be corrected, so they probably let that kind of thing slide as part of his personality. |
| 89 | Q: Since Kuruma Squad / Suzunari First is a thing, does that mean there is Suzunari Second? A: Right now it doesn't exist, but here are C-Rank Trainees who are apart of Suzunari Branch so it is possible that a Suzunari Second, and Third will exist in the future. |
| 90 | Q: Does Chika's Side Effect not activate during Rank Wars? A: Her Side Effect activates when "something she would fear that has trion is approaching". Since Chika counts Rank Wars as a competition, she thinks the matches pose no danger to her physical safety. |
| 91 | Q: When Usami was transferred to Tamakoma, which Squad was Mikami affiliated with? A: Operators generally start out as HQ intelligence division operators (central operators), then they can transfer to a different divison or join a squad based on introductions or recruitment. Madoka, and Kittaka were originally central operators. |
| 92 | Q: Couldn't Jin's foresight let him see Hatohara's plan of sneaking into the Neighborhood. A: There are two theories, "Since it happened during a period of time where Jin wasn't at Headquarters as much, he wasn't aware of it to begin with" with the other theory being: "He knew about the plan, but decided to turn a blind eye". I think it is about 80:20 in favor of the first theory. |
| 93 | Q: I’d like to know what made Hana become a fan of Arashiyama. A: It was because he non-chalantly protected me from a reporter who suddenly approached me when I was taking the enlistment exam, using the hook, "A girl who lost her parents in a neighbor invasion." |
| 94 | Q: What does Maki Risa call Fuyushima, and Tōma? A: She normally calls them, "Captain" and "Tōma." In public, she calls them "Fuyushima-kun" and "Tōma-kun." |
| 95 | Q: Does Shinoda train or does spars with other combatants? A: Shinoda has been busy lately, so the opportunities have decreased, but he still does it from time to time. For example, he does spar with Tachikawa. It seems like he sometimes face off against regular combatants in solo rank wars. |
| 96 | Q: What does Izumi think of Tachikawa's poor academic ability? A: Izumi thinks "It's a good thing there's Border." Or rather that is what Tachikawa told him. |
| 97 | Q: In the academic ability chart, Konami-senpai is listed on the sports-oriented side, but have her classmates really not figured out that she’s not actually an operator? She seems like the type who would excel at events like the sports festival. A: Since her junior, An Kobayakawa (Kako Squad's Operator), is also pretty good at sports, I don’t think many people have figured it out. |
| 98 | Q: On the back cover of Volume 29, how is Enedorad still on, even when not plugged in. A: I think Enedorad is powered by Raizō's Trion. It is similar to wireless charging. |
| 99 | Q: Hokari seemed quite adept at general household chores—does he usually cook and do things like that? A: I get the feeling he does. Within Arafune Squad, I think Arafune and Hokari are the types who like to try doing just about everything themselves, while Kagami and Hanzaki tend to focus their interests on their specific areas of expertise. |
| 100 | Q: Is Saeki an All-Rounder because he wanted to, or is it Captain Kusakabe's order? A: He was originally an Attacker and served as both captain and ace of the Saeki Squad, but after joining the Kusakabe Squad, he was converted to an All-Rounder on the captain’s orders. |
| 101 | Q: I used to think of Satori as a cheerful, upbeat guy, but seeing his expression in chapter 115 page 17 (Volume 13 Page 185) changed my impression of him. How do you see him as a character? A: I think he’s one of the cool guys in Border. |
| 102 | Q: Who developed the lead bullets? And what prompted its development? A: Chief Engineer Mochizuki created them based on a "trigger designed to incapacitate the enemy rather than destroy it" that the Away Team had brought back. Triggers with unusual characteristics are usually Mochizuki's work. |
| 103 | Q: I'd like to know the name, and age of Narasaka's older sister. I'd also like to know if she is close with her cousin, Nasu A: Her name is Shinobu (忍 ?), and she's 20 years old. I think she's also like an older sister to Nasu. Since Shinobu graduated from Rokueikan High School, she might have connections with people like Kako. |

A: I think part of the reason is that Arashiyama was acting as the commander, but I also think he tends to speak more informally to Tachikawa and Kazama in general.
