Suzunari Branch (鈴鳴 支部, Suzunari-shibu ?) is one of the 6 branches in Border[1], and one of the 5 that acts as a contact point for locals.[1] The Director is unknown.
Overview
[edit | edit source]Appearance
[edit | edit source]Their base is located in between office buildings[2] the base appears to be a standard office building, Tamakoma Branch has rooms for people to sleep[3] so it is possible Suzunari has a similar set of rooms.
Location
[edit | edit source]The branch base is along the outer edge of the danger zone, and act as a contact point for locals.[1] The base is close by Tamakoma Branch so they are on friendly terms, and they occasionally conduct patrols together.[4]
The base is also close to the store Jujuen so Suzunari First occasionally orders there.[5]
History
[edit | edit source]Forming the Branch
[edit | edit source]Suzunari Branch was formed around the time Kō Murakami joined Border[6], meaning the branch is about 1 and a half years old.[7]
Tatsuya Kuruma's family donated the branch building to Border.[8]
Forming Suzunari First
[edit | edit source]Murakami, Taichi, and Kon were all scouted from outside the prefecture.[9] The prefectures they were scouted from in order are, Ehime, Kōchi, and Chiba.[10]
Kuruma's parents at some point started to support Border, so Kuruma asked if he could do anything, and eventually joined[11]
When Murakami joined, he wrote "anywhere is fine", and was sent as one of the starting members of Suzunari Branch.[6]
Taichi was recruited due to his youth, decent Trion, and dazzling eyes.[12]
Events
[edit | edit source]Currently Suzunari Branch has no aquariums that Kuruma has made[13] due to Taichi accidentally boiling all of Kuruma's fish in the past.[14]
After seeing Yōtarō's helmet, Kuruma bought the hat Taichi now wears with his reasoning being that he worried about Taichi's clumsiness.[15] Taichi both cherishes, and wears the hat all the time.[15]
Function
[edit | edit source]Director/Branch
[edit | edit source]The director is unknown, but they are a normal employee who doesn't have any Trion abilities.[16] The role for both the branch and the director is to act as a point of contact with locals[1][16]
Defense Duty
[edit | edit source]Regular defense duty has 1 squad deployed to each of the 5 non-tamakoma branches for a total of 5 squads.[17] the 5 branch bases act as points while the squads patrol the boundary of the forbidden zone[18], when many gates start opening at once, squads on standby at HQ will be deployed as reinforcements.[18]
Specifically for Suzunari Branch, They are on friendly terms with Tamakoma Branch, and they occasionally conduct patrols together due to being close by.[4]
Normal Job
[edit | edit source]While it is possible to get a job at Border HQ, to have both a normal job, and being apart of Border makes it impossible to regularly participate in Rank Wars or Defense Duty, so the agent gets transferred to one of the Branches.[19]
Branch vs. HQ
[edit | edit source]There is no differences in treatment between those who are affiliated with HQ, and branch members[20], however it is a bit troublesome to go to HQ when wanting to do Rank Wars.[20]
Strategy Room
[edit | edit source]Suzunari First has their own strategy room at the branch, as well as at HQ, so they don't leave much stuff at the HQ strategy room.[21] Part of the reason why is due to the more amount of stuff out, the higher chance Taichi will destroy something.[21]
Emblem
[edit | edit source]Suzunari Branch does not have their own emblem, but when Suzunari First reaches A-Rank the emblem for the Squad will also become Suzunari Branch's Emblem.[22]
Culture
[edit | edit source]- Taichi Betsuyaku is Suzunari Branch's mascot that spreads destruction.[23]
- Yuka Kon is good at cooking, so everyone else in Suzunari First is fine with whatever she cooks.[24]
- Both Kuruma, and Taichi like tomato flavor instant noodles, but Kuruma doesn't eat it due to Taichi also liking it.[26]
- Suzunari First is a squad that hang out together outside of border[27], and they ordered at Jujuen for that exact reason.[5]
Trivia
[edit | edit source]- Kuruma's family was rich enough to donate the building for Suzunari's base without battling an eye at the rich.[8]

Q: Are there any branches besides Tamakoma and Suzunari?
A: Border has 6 branches: Tamakoma, Suzunari, Wataayu (綿鮎 ?), Yumite District (弓手町 ?), Hayanuma (早沼 ?), and Kuma (久摩 ?). Its personnel are mostly those who prioritise work or school and don’t aim for A-Rank (they do not participate in the twice a week Rank Wars). The branches are placed on the outer edge of the Forbidden Zone. Other than Tamakoma, the branches function as a point of contact for local residents.
