Youth

Jensen Ackles was born in Dallas, Texas on March 1, 1978, before moving to Richardson, where he spent his childhood. Ackles grew up with one older brother and a younger sister, with his father also being an actor, making his transition unsurprising. Despite modeling from the age of 4, Ackles originally planned on studying sports medicine at Texas Tech University with the goal of becoming a sports therapist, but ultimately decided to pursue acting instead, moving to Los Angeles in 1996, where his career began.

Education

Ackles attended Lloyd V. Berkner High School, eventually graduating in 1996. He never ended up attending University, with a friend suggesting an acting seminar, which ultimately sparked his move into the industry, rather than studying sports medicine as he initially intended.

Career

It didn't take long for Ackles' career to take off, as he landed several guest roles in shows like Mr. Rhodes and Sweet Valley High in 1996, before securing his breakout role one year later by joining Days of Our Lives. This performance earned him the award for Best Male Newcomer at the Soap Opera Digest Awards, which set him on course for a very successful career.

Having continued to pick up roles here and there, his next big role came in Dark Angel (2000), where he portrayed Alec McDowell, a human/animal hybrid designed to be a soldier. Here, Ackles highlighted his range and versatility, which only made his profile grow stronger.

Appearing in Dawson's Creek in 2002 and then Smallville in 2004 set him up for his biggest project to date — Supernatural (2005). As the show's protagonist, Ackles played Dean Winchester, a morally complex hunter who exuded a bad-boy persona, which Ackles nailed. Despite being loyal to his loved ones, Dean had a fierce yet humorous personality, and having played him for 15 seasons, the Supernatural protagonist is by far Ackles' most iconic role to date.

Since then, the actor has remained active, voicing Batman in various animated movies, alongside portraying one of The Boys' (2019) best villains, Soldier Boy. Now, Ackles feels like one of the more in-demand talents in the industry, hence leading Prime Video's Countdown (2025), and his ability to portray cool yet vulnerable characters has earned him a very strong reputation.
