Propose a merger

[edit source]

Since the version content is basically the same, why can't it be merged into Preview 26.50.20? Or you can switch to the 'Minecraft Closed Beta' and add that page to the version number. (You can include multiple test versions)KTManoger T  00:15, 9 August 2026 (UTC)(Last edited on 06:13, 13 August 2026 (UTC))Reply

Oppose, this specific release is unique for Switch 2 and it's the first release of the dedicated Switch 2 version. It's also distributed differently than regular previews/betas. --Capopanzo (talk | contribs) 00:19, 9 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
If you put it that way, all tests on different platforms are different. Also, you can totally mention it specifically on the 26.50.20 version page. KTManoger T  00:22, 9 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Sure you can, but personally I see no benefit in mixing Switch 2 release-specific info with the regular preview info. --Capopanzo (talk | contribs) 00:31, 9 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
No big deal, this kind can also be placed in a lot of places like history. I still hope it can be a bit more standard. KTManoger T  00:35, 9 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Oppose This version isn't like a development version for 26.50 per se, but its own development version for the Nintendo Switch 2 edition. It just so happens that 26.50 is being developed currently, so it takes traits from the 26.50 development line. Iactuallycantdothat (talk) 00:49, 9 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
One way to handle it is to set up a secondary heading specifically for 'Minecraft Closed Beta' related content. You still can't rule out that it's a branch of Preview 26.50.20. KTManoger T  00:58, 9 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I recall using this method before. KTManoger T  01:01, 9 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Oppose. Different version, different changelog, different context, different info.  Nixinova  T ⁄ C  01:53, 9 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Support, all the unique information can probably just be moved to "Nintendo Switch 2 Closed Beta" or something since it seems the versions aren't actually unique Sightnado t | c 16:44, 12 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Agree, technically speaking this version isnt any different from 26.50.20 (except some irrelevant networking/production stuff), all specific Nintendo Switch 2 code existed long ago in other versions.
It is the exact same situation as 26.41/26.42: same version, different platform release. MinecraftBedrockPlayer7 (talk) (contribs) 21:57, 14 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Oppose per Nixinova and Capopanzo. Slimeball (Talk) 16:41, 16 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Move and rewrite proposal

Moved page to Nintendo Switch 2 closed beta -- Dipanshu Sarkar (Talk) 18:05, 18 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

The previous discussion does not seem to be getting consensus because merging this page sounds too much like deleting this page, which it isn't. That's why I'm redoing this proposal: we will not merge this page but move it to Nintendo Switch 2 closed beta.

Yes, it will no longer be a version page with a version infobox (though we can keep some kind of small infobox), but it will go much more in detail about what's special about this beta, as well as linking all published beta versions with their release date. Much more useful and promotable than the current page.

Some reasoning:

  • "Nintendo Switch 2 closed beta" nomenclature: it is known as "Minecraft Closed Beta" on the switch, but there are more versions referred to as "closed beta" so we can't use that. Lowercase because this name isn't really official ("Nintendo Switch 2 beta" sounds ok as well but might become ambigious if there'll be an actual beta).
  • 26.50.21 isn't a real version, it is literally a reupload of 26.50.20 for the NS2 and has 0 "changes" or fixes from that version; logically it cannot have it's own version page, similar to 26.41 and 26.42.
  • There are and likely will be more closed betas for NS2, we currently don't have a page describing all of them.
  • Right now this info is just unfindable for readers, the only links are in the navbox and on planned versions iirc. Moving it would allow readers searching for "nintendo switch 2" to find this page, and we can also "promote" it on pages like Bedrock Edition and Version types.

Support, but leave a redirect for users who know it by 26.50.21

26.50.21 will redirect to 26.50.20 which will include a link to this page, because there's info about build number, title screenshot etc. MinecraftBedrockPlayer7 (talk) (contribs) 19:05, 16 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hmm. We don't do this for any other init version right. Might be a bit surprising of a page. Although, could be worth it to start to have a wider conversation on how to handle init versions for a platform - currently we just use an empty page and say "Based on X Edition Y".  Nixinova  T ⁄ C  21:58, 16 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Have there been any similar cases like this before? On a sidenote I think Bedrock Edition beta (or Minecraft beta) should also get a page similar to Minecraft Preview, then this NS2 beta page would feel more logical. MinecraftBedrockPlayer7 (talk) (contribs) 22:01, 16 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Why do we need a page for a single NS2 closed beta when as of now there are two? Whydeletemyaccs * talk * contributions 18:04, 17 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Read my comment again. The page will not be about a version but about the closed beta, which is one app that can get versions as updates, which already have pages. MinecraftBedrockPlayer7 (talk) (contribs) 18:41, 17 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Date?

[edit source]

I got the invite on August 15th, not 14th. Mistake? TogepisWikiAccount (talk) 21:28, 11 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Either you saw it late or you're in a different timezone from UTC. The invites were definetely sent on 14. MinecraftBedrockPlayer7 (talk) (contribs) 21:32, 11 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
