Axel is one of Jesse's closest friends and a member of the New Order of the Stone. He is known to be a prankster and his former hostility toward Lukas. He is also a fan of Magnus the Rogue.

Appearance

Axel has a huge build and is tall in appearance. He has short, black hair along with a unibrow and his skin is pale white. He wears a green jacket, black finger-less gloves, tan pants, and sandals. Later on, he also gains a helmet similar to Magnus the Rogue's, a chest piece similar to his former shirt with gloves and brown boots.

In Season Two, Axel's jacket is now replaced with a green plaid flannel, which is left unbuttoned to reveal a black t-shirt with a skull on it.

Personality

Axel is portrayed to be a joker who enjoys making people laugh. He acts as a source of comic relief, making lots of sarcastic quips and short one-liners. Over the course of the story, he is revealed to be a little cowardly, but is very fierce when defending his friends and will risk a great deal to protect them. He is, at times, loud and explosive and enjoys griefing. Axel is also shown to be a kleptomaniac, as he tries to steal small items whenever he can.

Biography

A Journey's End?

Hadrian used the portal atlas to travel to the world of Jesse and their friends and imprisoned Axel and Olivia in an obsidian prison. Hadrian then suddenly changed the terms of his deal with Jesse, stating that if Jesse won, then Olivia and Axel would work in the mines forever, but if Jesse lost, all of their friends would be able to leave, but Jesse would have to stay behind.

Relationships

Jesse

Axel is one of Jesse’s closest friends and is very protective of them. He always tries to help and support Jesse, and Jesse appreciates his efforts.

Reuben

Axel loves sharing jokes with his friends, including Reuben. Even though they don’t spend an excessive amount of time together, they get along well. In The Order of the Stone, Axel even got Reuben an ender dragon costume for EnderCon. Unlike Olivia, Axel has more faith in Reuben’s abilities despite him being a pig.

Olivia

Though Axel and Olivia are constantly portrayed as complete opposites and often disagree with each other, they never abandon each other in dire situations.

Petra

Axel tends to worry deeply about Petra. In A Block and a Hard Place, Olivia could mention that Axel is practically obsessed with Petra, and it is quite noticeable—he brings her up on multiple occasions, even when she is not the main topic of conversation. If Petra contracts wither, Axel will be visibly frightened and concerned. If she suffers from amnesia instead, he will ask her in disbelief if she truly does not remember him.

Lukas

Axel and Lukas never had a very close relationship starting from The Order of the Stone. They argue many times because Lukas tries to take charge of the group, which Axel disapproves of. Their relationship noticeably improves starting in The Last Place You Look, and they rarely quarrel after that point. If Jesse chooses to go after the amulet in The Last Place You Look, their bond will grow even stronger.

Magnus

Axel is a huge fan of Magnus, viewing him as his hero and mentor. He aspires to be just like Magnus, which is reflected in his clothing and behavior.

The rest of the Order of the Stone

Axel is friendly with the other members of the Order of the Stone and admires them as legendary heroes.

Blaze Rods

Axel dislikes the Blaze Rods, particularly Aiden, whom he called "punk" after he caused lava to spill during EnderCon Building Competition.

Interactions

The Order of the Stone

Axel

Axel can be interacted with during Jesse's search for Ivor at EnderCon.

 Talk to

(A chicken drops after stepping in redstone mechanism.)

Axel: Thought you could just wiggle right out of that trap, didn’t you? Well -- Wiggle as much as you want -- you’re not goin’ anywhere.

Jesse: Axel, listen up-- any chance you’ve seen a creepy-looking beard-y guy anywhere?

Axel: No, but Petra told me what happened -- I’m keeping an eye out for him.

Axel: It’s just this machine presses all my buttons -- unnecessarily complicated, and mean to birds for no reason. It’s just, when something like this calls, you gotta answer. But I swear, as soon as the demonstration is over... Petra did make it sound kinda serious.

 You’re no help.

Jesse: Well, if you’re just gonna mess around, don’t bother.

Axel: C’mon, let me help! I just got distracted for a second.

Jesse: Nope. We’ll find him without you.

 Stop messing around.

Jesse: Stop messing around -- we need your help.

Axel: I was looking, I swear -- I’ve just got a short attention span.

 We can’t find him alone.

Jesse: We really need your help, Axel. If we don’t find this guy soon, we might never find him.

Axel: I was looking. I just got distracted.

 ...

(Jesse stares at Axel without saying anything.)

Axel: The old silent treatment, huh?

(If Reuben was not with Jesse in EnderCon.)

Jesse: Have you seen Reuben? I was hoping he might’ve made it to town while I was distracted.

Axel: Haven’t seen hide nor hair. But I’m sure he’s fine. He’s a tough little ham.

(Axel looks back to the chicken machine.)

Jesse: Axel?

(If Reuben is with Jesse in EnderCon.)

(Immediately proceeds to the next line of dialogue.)

Axel: All right, all right! I’ll look. After I watch one more chicken get owned.

(Jesse rolled their eyes and leaves.)

Axel

Axel can be interacted with again at EnderCon after Jesse was blocked from entering the hall.

 Talk to

Jesse: Any ideas?

Axel: Yes.

Jesse: That pertain to our current situation?

Axel: No.

Jesse: Thought so.
