Certain levels of Sharpness cannot be received directly through the enchanting table on certain equipment tiers, because their enchantability does not meet the required threshold.
The wooden, stone, copper, iron, diamond, and netherite tiers cannot receive Sharpness V through an enchanting table.
The golden tier is the only tier that is able to receive Sharpness V directly through an enchanting table.
Tiers that cannot receive Sharpness V can have it applied to them by use of an anvil, or can be found naturally enchanted with it through certain structure loot.
In Java Edition, Sharpness adds 1HP extra damage for the first level and 0.5HP × 0.25 for all subsequent levels, using the formula .
In Bedrock Edition, Sharpness adds 1HP extra damage for the first three levels, 2HP extra damage for the fourth level, and 1HP extra damage for the fifth level, using the formula .
In Java Edition, Sharpness does not apply to charge attacks performed using the spear in the offhand.[1]
These tables detail how much damage is done per attack based on the level of enchantment used, assuming the target is not wearing armor and the attack is fully charged[Java Edition only].
If Sharpness is applied to a trident by use of commands or an anvil in Creative, the enchantment boosts the weapon's projectile damage, rather than Power having this effect. If Sharpness is applied to a bow by use of commands or an anvil in Creative, the enchantment boosts the damage of the weapon's arrows. If Sharpness is applied to a crossbow by use of commands or an anvil in Creative, the enchantment boosts the damage of the weapon's arrows but not its firework rockets.
Sharpness is incompatible with Smite, Bane of Arthropods, and Cleaving.[upcoming:JE Combat Tests] It is also incompatible with Impaling, Density, and Breach; however in Survival these incompatibilities cannot be encountered, as no weapon types have access to both Sharpness and Impaling/Density/Breach. If commands are used to have two or more of these enchantments on the same item, their effects stack.[Java Edition only]
Added Sharpness, which currently has this formula 1+ random.nextInt(Level * 3).
Every level has a minimum and maximum damage, 1HP being the minimum for every level, 3HP being the maximum for level I, 6HP being the maximum for level II, 9HP being the maximum for level III, 12HP × 6 being the maximum for level IV, and 15HP × 7.5 being the maximum for level V
Sharpness now deals 1.25HP × 0.625 extra damage at level I, 2.5HP × 1.25 extra damage at level II, 3.75HP × 1.875 extra damage at level III, 5HP at level IV, 6.25HP × 3.125 at level V
