A nautilus shell is an item that is rarely dropped by killed nautiluses, always dropped by drowned that hold them, and it can be fished out of water. Nautilus shells, along with hearts of the sea, are required to craft conduits.
Obtaining
[edit | edit source]Mob loot
[edit | edit source]Drowned have a 3%[JE only] or 8%[BE only] chance to spawn with a nautilus shell in their off-hand, and they always drop that nautilus shell upon death. In Bedrock Edition, this also includes zombies converted into drowned.
In Bedrock Edition, wandering traders have a chance of 25% (increased by 1% per level of Looting) to drop 1 nautilus shell when killed while showing the item as trade offer, if the player holds an emerald.

Fishing
[edit | edit source]Nautilus shells are obtainable through fishing as a treasure item, with a 0.8% chance to obtain one, per catch, without Luck of the Sea. Like other treasure items, this chance is then increased to 1.2% with Luck of the Sea I, 1.5% with Luck of the Sea II, and 1.9% with Luck of the Sea III.
Trading
[edit | edit source]Wandering traders may sell 1 nautilus shell for 5 emeralds.
