Instant mining
(Redirected from Instant mined)
Instant mining, or insta-mining, is a game mechanic in which 1 block can be broken per game tick without the delay of 3⁄10 of a second (6 ticks). Blocks that break instantly without using tools do not decrease durability if a tool is used. Below are listed the tool tier and the Efficiency and Haste levels necessary to instant-mine a block.
Without commands

With the help of commands
[edit | edit source]Using commands, much higher levels of haste may be applied to enable instant-breaking of the following blocks:
| Tool | Efficiency enchantment level Haste level |
Blocks instantly mined | Calculation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Efficiency V Haste X |
123 = (15 + 26)×(1 + 2) which is greater than 120 = 4×30 | ||
| Efficiency V Haste III |
54.4 = (8 + 26)×(1 + 0.6) which is greater than 54 = 1.8×30 | ||
| Efficiency V Haste IV |
61.2 = (8 + 26)×(1 + 0.8) which is greater than 60 = 2×30 | ||
| Efficiency V Haste IV |
61.2 = (8 + 26)×(1 + 0.8) which is greater than 60 = 2×30 | ||

Blocks unaffected by Efficiency
[edit | edit source]These blocks don't have an assigned tool. However, with commands, they can be instantly broken with the right level of haste. Note that the maximum level of haste is 255.
| Level of Haste | Blocks instantly mined | Calculation |
|---|---|---|
| unbreakable |
|
All of these blocks have a hardness of -1, and -1×30 = -30. Since breaking starts at 1, these blocks can never be broken. |
| Haste CVII (107) |

| Haste X | 3 = 1×(1 + 2) which is equal to 3 = 0.1×30 | |
| Haste XXV (25) | 6 = 1×(1 + 5) which is equal to 6 = 0.2×30 | |
| Haste XXXIII (33) | 7.6 = 1×(1 + 6.6) which is greater than 7.5 = 0.25×30 | |
| Haste XL (40) | 9 = 1×(1 + 8) which is equal to 9 = 0.3×30 | |
| Haste LV (55) | 12 = 1×(1 + 11) which is equal to 12 = 0.4×30 | |
| Haste LXX (70) | 15 = 1×(1 + 14) which is equal to 15 = 0.5×30 | |
| Haste LXXXV (85) | 18 = 1×(1 + 17) which is equal to 18 = 0.6×30 | |
| Haste CXLV (145) | 30 = 1×(1 + 29) which is equal to 30 = 1×30 | |
| Haste CDXLV (445) | 90 = 1×(1 + 89) which is equal to 90 = 3×30 | |
| Haste DXCV (595) |

300 = 1×(1 + 299) which is equal to 300 = 10×30 |
| Haste V̄MMMCCXLV (8245) | 1650 = 1×(1 + 1649) which is equal to 1650 = 55×30 |
History
[edit | edit source]| Java Edition | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.3.1 | 12w18a | The 6-tick (3⁄10 second) delay between block breaking is now removed if a block takes 1 tick or less to break in Survival. The player can now instantly mine a large amount of blocks in Survival simply by holding destroy if conditions are met. | |||||
| Before this version, blocks that can be instantly mined do break instantly, but the 6-tick delay between block breaking still exists. | |||||||
| 12w24a | While holding a block-breaking tool, breaking a block that can be instantly mined by hand no longer reduces the tool's durability. | ||||||
| 1.4.2 | 12w32a | With the addition of beacons, the haste status effect can be legitimately accessed in survival, which enables the instant mining of stone using a diamond pickaxe enchanted with Efficiency V, making the acquisition of resources and clearing out a large area/volume much easier. | |||||
