The Illager Empire[1] was a group of illagers serving as the main antagonists of Minecraft Dungeons. It was formed by uniting several illager clans under the Arch-Illager under guidance from the Orb of Dominance, seeking to take over the Overworld.

Prior to becoming the Arch-Illager, Archie lived in an illager clan led by Walda and based in a woodland mansion. After finding the Orb of Dominance in a crumbling sanctuary, Archie would take power from Walda, and begin uniting all illager clans under his rule, relocating to the newly-created Highblock Halls, and creating infrastructure such as the Fiery Forge and Redstone Mines locations. Using the material collected in the mines, Archie started creating an army redstone golems and some redstone monstrosities.
After his attempt to attack the Squid Coast village is foiled by a group of undead, Archie is taken to a Desert Temple, where he meets and allies himself with the Nameless Kingdom, and their king, the Nameless One, both to procure more soldiers, and secure a promise of safety, that no Undead would ever attack the Illagers again. Since then, the Orb of Dominance's power granted the undead immunity to the sun.
Subsequently, the Illagers would attack the village again, this time succeeding in taking it over, capturing villagers as prisoners for work in the Redstone Mines; during their reign, the illagers would begin taking over several of the island realms, as evident by the illagers’ presence in the Howling Peaks and Creeping Winter DLCs, respectively, as well as the optional sub dungeon, The Bilge, in the Coral Rise, which shows an illager banner hanging near the back of the sunken ship.
After the defeat of the Arch-Illager by the four heroes, the Illager Empire would dissolve, and the island realms’ tribes would become independent groups.
At its peak, Archie's empire controlled most of the mainland and even some of island realms.
