Chainmail boots[a] are an uncommon variant of boots that cannot be crafted, and are only obtainable through other means such as trading. They are the fourth-highest tier of boots, having the same armor points as leather, golden, and copper boots but with higher durability.
Zombies, husks, zombie villagers[Java Edition only], skeletons, strays, bogged, and parched have a small chance to spawn wearing armor, which may include chainmail boots. There is an 8.5% chance (9.5% with Looting I, 10.5% with Looting II and 11.5% with Looting III) for the mob to drop the boots they're wearing upon death unless they are spawned from an ominous trial spawner. The dropped boots are usually badly damaged, and may be enchanted with enchantment levels 5-19.
Chainmail boots can be repaired in an anvil by adding iron ingots, with each ingot restoring 25% of the boots' maximum durability, rounded down. Two pairs of chainmail boots can also be combined in an anvil. Both methods preserve the boots' enchantments.
Chainmail boots can now be trimmed using a smithing table.
There are 10 types of material that determine the color of the trim: iron, copper, gold, lapis, emerald, diamond, netherite, redstone, amethyst, and quartz
