A beetroot[a] is a food and dye ingredient.

Obtaining

[edit | edit source]

Farming

[edit | edit source]

Beetroots are obtained from harvesting a fully-grown beetroot crop, which drops 1 beetroot in Java Edition or 1 to 2 beetroots in Bedrock Edition and 1 to 4 beetroot seeds (2 5⁄7 per crop harvested on average). If a crop is harvested before it is fully grown, it just drops one seed. Harvesting with a Fortune-enchanted tool increases the number of seeds dropped but does not increase the yield of beetroots.

Usage

[edit | edit source]

A beetroot can be eaten to restore 1 (🍖) hunger and 1.2 hunger saturation. Six beetroots can be crafted into beetroot soup, which restores six times the hunger and saturation of a single beetroot.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • Jeb has stated that beetroots were originally added to Pocket Edition as a developer on the team "thought it would be a nice thing to have."[2] When they were added, though, they served as a more reliable source of rose red dye. Rose red's only other source, red mushrooms, generated uncommonly in the Old worlds of the time or could be spawned, with tedium, using a Nether reactor.
