University Campus Network Infrastructure

A comprehensive university campus network designed using Cisco Packet Tracer for the Computer Networks course.

The project simulates a complete university infrastructure consisting of multiple colleges, academic buildings, laboratories, and centralized services. It demonstrates enterprise network design concepts including LAN segmentation, inter-building routing, centralized servers, and end-to-end connectivity verification.

Project Overview

The network was designed to simulate a university campus containing:

  • 4 Colleges
  • 4 Floors per College
  • 5 Computer Labs on each Floor
  • 10 PCs in every Lab

Overall, the network contains approximately:

  • 80 Computer Labs
  • 800 End Devices (PCs)
  • Distribution and Access Switches
  • Core Routers
  • Centralized Server Farm

The project focuses on designing a scalable campus network capable of supporting communication between all departments while providing centralized network services.

Features

  • Multi-building university topology
  • Hierarchical network design
  • LAN segmentation
  • Multiple interconnected routers
  • Multiple switches
  • Centralized DNS Server
  • Centralized HTTP Server
  • Centralized Mail Server
  • End-to-end connectivity
  • ICMP communication testing
  • Scalable campus architecture

Technologies Used

  • Cisco Packet Tracer
  • Computer Networks
  • IPv4 Addressing
  • Routing
  • Switching
  • DNS
  • HTTP
  • Email Services
  • ICMP Testing

Network Architecture

The project follows a hierarchical campus network architecture:

  • Core Layer
  • Distribution Layer
  • Access Layer

Each college is connected through routers to the campus backbone, allowing communication between all departments and centralized services.

Network Topology

Complete University Campus

The following figure shows the complete university campus network consisting of four colleges connected through the core network.

Full Topology

College Network

Each college contains four floors, where every floor includes five computer laboratories connected through access switches.

College Network

Server Farm

The network includes centralized services accessible from all colleges.

Implemented servers include:

  • DNS Server
  • HTTP Server
  • Mail Server
