[Windows 10] Computer Use window capture times out while accessibility reads work #50362

Description

@evgeniy-retail-2026

Problem

Computer Use can enumerate Windows apps/windows and read UI Automation trees, but screenshot capture fails for both 1C thin client and a fresh empty Notepad window. No screenshot is returned, and clicking a UI Automation element fails because coordinate geometry is unavailable.

Environment

  • Windows 10 Pro 22H2, build 19045.6456
  • Computer: Fujitsu ESPRIMO P700
  • Graphics: Intel HD Graphics, hardware ID PCI VEN_8086 DEV_0102
  • Graphics driver: 9.17.10.4459 (read from registry)
  • Desktop app package version from startup log: OpenAI.Codex 26.930.2377.0
  • Computer Use plugin: 26.930.21537
  • Built-in update check: up_to_date; installedVersion 26.930.21537, installedBuildVersion 12776, release channel prod. These are separate version values returned by the updater and startup log.

Reproduction

  1. Initialize the bundled @oai/sky package in node_repl.
  2. Use sky.list_windows() to select a returned Notepad window.
  3. Use sky.get_window() and sky.get_window_state({window, include_screenshot:true, include_text:false}).
  4. Retry after activating the window and refreshing the window handle.

Actual results

  • FrameArrived timed out: timed out waiting on channel
  • window capture timed out: timed out waiting on channel
  • Earlier sky.click with an observed accessibility index: coordinate input geometry is unavailable

Accessibility-only get_window_state with include_screenshot:false and include_text:true succeeds. App enumeration and launch of Notepad also succeed.

Troubleshooting already performed

  • Reset the node_repl session and re-import @oai/sky.
  • Refresh app/window selection and activate the target window.
  • Restart the desktop app and reboot the PC.
  • Manually start the Windows CaptureService instance and confirm Running. Capture still fails.
  • Restart CodexSandboxService.OpenAI.Codex and confirm Running.
  • Check for app updates with the built-in updater: no eligible update.
  • No newer compatible graphics driver found; driver was not changed.
  • Reinstallation has not been performed or confirmed.

Related log observation

After reboot, the app log reported: Windows Appshot hotkey registration failed; computer-use request timed out: service_info. This may be related, but the cause has not been established.

Expected result

Capture a screenshot of a normal, non-elevated Notepad window and allow verified UI interactions.
