Summary of ChangesHello, I'm Gemini Code Assist1! I'm currently reviewing this pull request and will post my feedback shortly. In the meantime, here's a summary to help you and other reviewers quickly get up to speed! This pull request addresses a bug where filesystem tools failed to locate files referenced with the '@' syntax. By implementing a centralized, defensive path resolution strategy, the system now intelligently attempts to resolve paths by stripping the '@' prefix if the literal path does not exist on disk, improving the robustness of file operations initiated by the model. Code Review
This pull request introduces defensive path resolution and sanitization for LLM-generated file paths by adding a new utility function resolveDefensiveToolPath that strips leading @ reference prefixes. This utility is integrated into ReadFileTool, WriteFileTool, and correctPath, and is accompanied by a new test suite. The review feedback highlights two key improvements: first, ensuring that the sanitized path in WriteFileTool is resolved to an absolute path before reading to prevent unsafe resolution relative to process.cwd(); second, enhancing resolveDefensiveToolPath to handle new file creation with an @ prefix by checking if the parent directory of the stripped path exists.

Code Review
This pull request introduces a defensive path resolution utility, 'resolveDefensiveToolPath', to strip leading '@' reference prefixes from LLM-generated file paths, integrating it into 'ReadFileTool', 'WriteFileTool', and 'correctPath' along with a new test suite. The review feedback highlights two critical improvements: first, ensuring that 'getCorrectedFileContent' in 'write-file.ts' resolves the sanitized path to an absolute path to prevent path traversal vulnerabilities; second, updating 'resolveDefensiveToolPath' in 'paths.ts' to handle new file creation by checking if the parent directory of the stripped path exists when the file itself does not yet exist.

Code Review
This pull request introduces defensive path resolution to handle LLM-generated file paths prefixed with '@' (at-references). It adds the resolveDefensiveToolPath utility to strip leading '@' characters when appropriate, integrates this sanitization into ReadFileTool, WriteFileTool, and correctPath, and adds comprehensive unit tests. The review feedback points out a limitation in the path sanitization logic when handling nested subdirectories that do not exist yet, providing a robust solution to check the first segment of the path instead.

Code Review
This pull request introduces defensive path resolution to handle LLM-generated file paths prefixed with @ by stripping the prefix when resolving paths in ReadFileTool, WriteFileTool, and correctPath. It also adds a comprehensive test suite for this behavior. The review feedback highlights two important improvements: handling leading slashes after the @ prefix in resolveDefensiveToolPath to prevent absolute path resolution issues, and validating path access in getCorrectedFileContent to mitigate potential path traversal vulnerabilities.

Code Review
This pull request introduces defensive path resolution for LLM-generated file paths by stripping leading '@' or '@/' reference prefixes when necessary. This is implemented via a new helper function resolveDefensiveToolPath and integrated into ReadFileTool, WriteFileTool, and path correction utilities, along with a comprehensive test suite. The review feedback points out a potential issue in getCorrectedFileContent where calling resolveToRealPath outside of a try-catch block could throw synchronous errors (e.g., due to symlink loops) and cause unhandled promise rejections, recommending wrapping it in a try-catch block.

Code Review
This pull request introduces defensive path resolution logic (resolveDefensiveToolPath) to sanitize LLM-generated file paths containing reference prefixes (such as @ or @/) across ReadFileTool, WriteFileTool, and path correction utilities, supported by a new test suite. The review feedback highlights two critical issues: first, resolveDefensiveToolPath performs synchronous filesystem checks that could throw unhandled exceptions (e.g., due to null bytes or long paths) and crash the execution pipeline, which should be mitigated with an upfront check and a try-catch block; second, getCorrectedFileContent in write-file.ts does not account for plan mode, which requires path resolution relative to the plans directory using resolveAndValidatePlanPath instead of the target directory.

Code Review
This pull request introduces defensive path resolution and sanitization for LLM-generated file paths across several tools (EditTool, ReadFileTool, and WriteFileTool), including stripping reference prefixes like @ and resolving symlinks via resolveToRealPath. It also adds a comprehensive test suite to validate these behaviors. The review feedback highlights a critical issue where throwing errors inside the constructors of ReadFileToolInvocation and WriteFileToolInvocation during path resolution could cause unexpected crashes during orchestration. It is recommended to handle these resolution failures gracefully by falling back to the unresolved path, consistent with the pattern implemented in EditToolInvocation.

Code Review
This pull request introduces defensive path resolution and sanitization for file paths generated by the LLM. It adds a new utility resolveDefensiveToolPath in packages/core/src/utils/paths.ts to handle and strip @ reference prefixes, and integrates it across file tools (ReadFileTool, WriteFileTool, EditTool) and the path corrector. It also adds a comprehensive test suite for at-reference path resolution. The reviewer pointed out a potential issue in resolveDefensiveToolPath where path aliases starting with @/ or @\ could lead to the creation of literal @ directories if the target directory does not exist yet, and suggested always stripping the @ prefix for these common aliases.

Code Review
This pull request introduces defensive path resolution and sanitization across file-related tools (ReadFileTool, WriteFileTool, and EditTool) by implementing and utilizing resolveDefensiveToolPath and resolveToRealPath to handle LLM-generated paths and reference prefixes (such as @). It also adds comprehensive tests for these changes. The review feedback highlights a potential security risk in EditTool.getModifyContext where falling back to an unresolved path upon resolution failure could bypass path validation, and suggests throwing descriptive exceptions instead.
…iles Implement resolveDefensiveToolPath to sanitize leading '@' prefixes in ReadFileTool, WriteFileTool, and pathCorrector, resolving the 'File not found' error.

Code Review
This pull request implements defensive path resolution and sanitization for LLM-generated file paths, specifically handling reference prefixes like @. It introduces the resolveDefensiveToolPath utility in paths.ts and integrates it across EditTool, ReadFileTool, WriteFileTool, and correctPath to ensure paths are safely resolved to real paths and validated. A comprehensive test suite has also been added to verify these behaviors. There are no review comments to address, and I have no further feedback to provide.
Note: Security Review did not run due to the size of the PR.

Summary
This PR introduces defensive path resolution and sanitization for LLM-generated file paths by adding a new utility function
resolveDefensiveToolPaththat strips leading@reference prefixes. This utility is integrated intoReadFileTool,WriteFileTool, andEditTool(includingcorrectPath), and is accompanied by a comprehensive consolidated test suite. This PR also addresses code review feedback by:
resolveDefensiveToolPathto always strip the@prefix and leading slashes for common path aliases starting with@/or@\(e.g.,@/components/Button.tsx), regardless of whether the target directory exists on disk. This prevents creating literal@directories in the workspace root when creating new files.EditTool.getModifyContextin try/catch blocks and propagating any resolution errors as descriptive exceptions, rather than silently falling back to the unresolved path. This enforces a secure-by-default posture and completely mitigates potential path traversal vulnerabilities.WriteFileToolis resolved to an absolute path usingresolveToRealPathbefore reading to prevent unsafe resolution relative toprocess.cwd().resolveDefensiveToolPathto handle new file creation with an@prefix by checking if the parent directory of the stripped path exists on disk while the parent directory of the literal path does not.@prefix (e.g.,@/policies/new-policies.txt) to ensure it is always resolved relative totargetDirrather than being treated as an absolute path from the root of the filesystem.config.validatePathAccess(resolvedPath)ingetCorrectedFileContentto enforce a secure-by-default posture and completely mitigate potential path traversal vulnerabilities.resolveToRealPathin a try-catch block ingetCorrectedFileContentto handle synchronous resolution errors (e.g., due to infinite symlink loops or permission issues) gracefully without causing unhandled promise rejections.resolveToRealPathbefore storing them inthis.resolvedPathand before callingvalidatePathAccessin bothReadFileToolandWriteFileTool(including Plan Mode). This ensures that any symbolic links pointing outside the workspace are resolved and correctly blocked byvalidatePathAccessduring execution and parameter validation, completely preventing arbitrary file read / path traversal vulnerabilities.resolveToRealPathin try-catch blocks inReadFileToolandWriteFileToolconstructors and validation methods to handle synchronous resolution errors gracefully and return them as clean validation failures or throw descriptive errors instead of falling back to unsafe path resolution methods.Details
We implemented a centralized, defensive path resolution utility to handle
@prefixes dynamically without breaking legitimate filesystem paths starting with@(e.g., scoped directories such asnode_modules/@google/):resolveDefensiveToolPathinpackages/core/src/utils/paths.ts. It checks if the literal path exists on disk first. If not, and the path starts with@, it strips the@and any leading slashes, and checks if the stripped path exists. It also handles new file creation in nested subdirectories by checking if a literal directory starting with@exists for the first segment. If it does, we preserve the@prefix. Otherwise, we defensively strip the@prefix.@/and@\prefixes to always strip the@and leading slashes, ensuring that common path aliases are resolved correctly even when the target directory does not exist yet.resolveDefensiveToolPathinReadFileToolInvocationconstructor andvalidateToolParamValuesinpackages/core/src/tools/read-file.ts. In both places, the path is resolved to its real path usingresolveToRealPathinside try-catch blocks before validation.resolveDefensiveToolPathinWriteFileToolInvocationconstructor, validateToolParamValues, andgetCorrectedFileContentinpackages/core/src/tools/write-file.ts. IngetCorrectedFileContent, the sanitized path is resolved to an absolute path usingresolveToRealPathinside a try-catch block, and path access is validated usingconfig.validatePathAccess(resolvedPath)before reading. In all places, the path is resolved to its real path usingresolveToRealPathinside try-catch blocks before validation.resolveDefensiveToolPathat the beginning ofcorrectPathinpackages/core/src/utils/pathCorrector.tsand inEditToolInvocationconstructor, validateToolParamValues, andgetModifyContextinpackages/core/src/tools/edit.ts.EditTool.getModifyContextin try/catch blocks and propagated any resolution errors as descriptive exceptions, rather than silently falling back to the unresolved path.packages/core/src/tools/at-reference-resolution.test.tsto verify successful path resolution, file updates, new file creation, nested subdirectory creation, new directory creation, path traversal blocking, and symlink loop handling across all three tools.WriteFileToolandEditToolsuccessfully create new files in nested subdirectories when the path is prefixed with@/or@\and the first segment does not exist, without creating a literal@directory. Also added a test to verify thatEditTool.getModifyContexthandles symlink loops gracefully by throwing a descriptive error.Related Issues
