The first edit of a session opens the diff pane by itself only when the main loop made the edit and file checkpointing is on, which is when the built-in panel opens; a subagent's edit, or a session with checkpointing off, opens nothing. An open the engine leaves waiting on a narrow terminal is withdrawn rather than seated by a later resize, is not counted as shown, and the next edit asks again;
/diffstill opens and closes at the person's word. Tests beside the mod.
