VS Code editor focus/group behavior changed after Claude Code 2.1.215 update
Description
After updating to Claude Code 2.1.215, the editor group behavior in VS Code changed.
Previously:
- Clicking files from Explorer would open them in my main/middle editor group.
- Claude Code could be open on the side without affecting where files opened.
Now:
- When I click inside the Claude Code panel, that editor group becomes active.
- After that, clicking files from Explorer opens them in the Claude Code editor group instead of my main editor.
- The active editor group seems to control where Explorer opens files.
Expected behavior
Explorer file clicks should continue opening files in my normal working editor group, not switch to the Claude Code editor group just because Claude Code was focused.
Actual behavior
The active editor group changes after interacting with Claude Code, and Explorer starts opening files there.
Environment
- VS Code: [your version]
- Claude Code extension: 2.1.215
- OS: Windows 11
Steps to reproduce
- Open VS Code with multiple editor groups.
- Open Claude Code in a side panel/editor group.
- Click inside Claude Code.
- Click a file from Explorer.
- Notice the file opens in the Claude Code editor group instead of the previous main editor group.
Additional notes
This behavior did not happen before updating Claude Code. It appears to be related to how Claude Code manages editor focus or editor groups.
Is there a setting to disable Claude Code taking ownership of the active editor group?
