For a custom OpenAI-compatible service, set `base_url` to the API root (for example, `https://gateway.example/v1`), not an individual request path such as `/chat/completions`. Set the model's `model` field to an ID accepted by the service. For `openai_legacy` and `openai_responses` providers, non-empty `OPENAI_BASE_URL` and `OPENAI_API_KEY` environment variables override the corresponding configuration fields; see [Environment variables](./env-vars.md).
