Please use this space to discuss the plan for the Google team(me) to autogenerate @types/google-apps-script and the associated changes.

Key Changes

Namespace Alignment: The types will match the runtime environment. Consequently, the GoogleAppsScript namespace will be removed. This change is intended to better enable JSDoc usage and support using tsc without TypeScript annotations.
Source of Truth: Type definitions will match the Reference Documentation exactly.
- Note: Signatures may be added or removed based on the official docs.
- No Patching: We will not accept patches to this package. Developers will need to create local declaration files for any undocumented types they rely on.
Null Handling: Consistent handling of null values to match the internal runtime behavior.
Contribution Model: External contributions to the types will no longer be accepted.

Versioning & Roadmap

Warning

This transition will result in breaking changes. To accommodate this, we will release these changes in v3 while deprecating v2.

Q1: Core Apps Script types.
Q2: Advanced Services types.

Hello, I found a problem in the ContactGroupMembership definition of People API.

The types/google-apps-script/apis/people_v1.d.ts defines:

            interface ContactGroupMembership {
                contactGroupId?: string | undefined;
            }

but according to the doc, it seems the definition should rather be something like:

interface ContactGroupMembership {
    /** @deprecated Use contactGroupResourceName instead. */
    contactGroupId?: string | undefined;
    contactGroupResourceName?: string | undefined;
}

I will not provide a PR since it is discouraged but I would be glad to have information about the advancement of the automatic generation and when this issue could be fixed.

I have a side project coming soon in this area with an LSP for Apps Script to catch type errors in the Apps Script IDE via a Chrome extension, https://myfunction.dev.

I was hopeful when this year-old thread get surfaced, but then immediately get discouraged when the OP says he is no longer working on this...

Just a note, there is an ongoing PR from me, that experimentally brings data schema from google's discovery-artifact-manager repo into @types/google-apps-script.

So, let's see how it goes for the Big Query API first, when DT maintainers later gets to review my PR. If thing goes well, I can aim to update People API with another PR that follows.

That being said, what I am doing will not stop anyone from contributing to the People API at the same time :)
