mink began his music career in 2020 under the name 9090gate, initially releasing tracks exclusively on SoundCloud. In April 2024, he rebranded as fakemink. In an interview with Hyperpop Daily the following year, he explains the origin of the moniker, detailing its derivation from a song he made titled “Mink:”

It was like a spur-of-the-moment thing. I was sitting on my ex’s bed […] I had a song called “Mink” and then I got the “fake” from somewhere and then I put it in my Instagram […] I was thinking about it ‘cause on Instagram you can’t change your name that much, so I just pressed on it when I wrote it.

Despite releasing a slew of EPs throughout 2021 and 2022, on 21 December 2023, mink released his debut self-produced mixtape, London’s Saviour. Then on 29 January 2026, his 21st birthday, he released the EP The Boy Who Cried Terrified . as a bridge project leading up to his debut studio album, Terrified ., released on 22 May 2026.
