Bear docs

Comments

Bear doesn't have native comments, and for most blogs and suggest a Reply via email link instead. It takes a few seconds to set up and tends to lead to much better conversations.

Why email instead of comments?

It's more personal. Comment sections tend to bring out short, surface-level reactions. An email is written to you. Readers who reach out directly usually send something more thoughtful, and those messages often turn into real back-and-forth conversations, which comment threads rarely manage.

Moderation is built in. Spam bots and click farms target comment sections, so any comment system needs constant moderation to stay usable. Your inbox already filters spam, and nothing reaches your readers unless you decide to share it.

It's easier. There are no third-party accounts, scripts, or dashboards to manage. It's just a link.

Add this to the bottom of a post, swapping in your own email address:

<a href="mailto:[email protected]?subject=Re: {{ post_title }}">Reply via email</a>

{{ post_title }} is filled in automatically, so every email arrives with the post's title as the subject line.

To add it to every new post, put it in your Post template so each new post starts with it.

Sharing replies on your post

Sometime having comments on a page is nice. Readers can add a clarification, expand on a point, or simply say thanks. You can keep all of that with email. When you get a reply that adds something to the post you can add it to the bottom of the post like this:

## Replies

> This post was awesome! Thanks for writing it!
> - Jane

You end up with a curated comments section that only includes the replies worth reading.

If you really want a comment box

If you'd still like a traditional comment section, Komments is a simple, privacy-respecting option. Sign up, add your blog, and paste its embed code into your post, and moderate it via the Komments dashboard.

Note: Embedding comments requires JS execution, which means this is only available on upgraded blogs.
