How it works How to rank in ChatGPT: who it mentions, and why. 01 It answers from training and from live search Without search it relies on what it learned in training. With search on, it reads current web pages and cites them. We work on both: the sources it reads today and the signals that shape how models describe you. 02 Citations come from pages it can read Pages that answer a question directly, state facts plainly and are clearly attributed are easier to quote than pages hidden behind scripts, pop-ups or vague copy. 03 Third-party mentions carry weight Reviews, roundups, press and community discussion often shape who gets recommended. Your own site is one input, not the only one. 04 Answers vary by prompt and by day The same question can return different answers. We track a set of prompts over time instead of judging from a single screenshot. Prompts we track What ChatGPT is asked, and where answers come from. Examples of the buyer prompts we track for clients, and the kinds of sources the answers usually draw on.
