Review intro:
Astrolux is a name that has been around the flashlight world for many years now. Technically, they are produced by Mateminco and are Banggood's “house brand” of flashlights, generally rebranded versions of Mateminco flashlights.
Either way, I have always liked the look and feel of Astrolux /Mateminco lights and anytime I could get my hands on one. The performance can be hit or miss from what I understand, (although I have had more hits, if you will).
This, and the fact that I love big ole throwy flashlights, is of course why I was excited to see the “Astrolux TM01 - SFT90X LED 6500LM Long-Range Flashlight 1442m Beam for Search & Rescue” come across my desk for review. How about that Bangood nomenclature? Anyhow, after seeing the size of this thing in that hand-photo on the website, I couldn’t wait to test it out!
Let’s see if this thing really does what it says, shall we?! Remove that giant battery insulator and lens protection sticker and plug in your own USB-C cable into the TM01’s charging port on the side. Press that power switch and let's get ready for some bright, throwy, LED fun!
What's in the package
The Astrolux TM01 arrives in a typical brown cardboard flashlight box, (but larger) with the Astrolux branding across the top and some barcodes and other info stickers on the side. All straight to the point, no frills etc. Flip open the Astrolux packaging to reveal the foam padding cover and nestled underneath, in its own foam cutout, is our handful of flashlight, the Astrolux TM01.
The included battery (see batt section below) ships inside the flashlight with an insulator on the positive end to prevent connection and obviously needs to be removed before you blast away those lumens.
There is no charger or cable included, but our fancy TM01 does have on-board USB-C charging port and we all have too many USB-C cables already (hopefully). Don't forget to remove the lens protection film over the glass lens. Always so satisfying to remove and also helps keep that glass pristine.
The owner's manual sits atop the flashlight, and the small plastic baggie of accessories is inside the slots of the foam that holds our new flashlight. Let’s see what all we get in our brown box special:
- Astrolux Flashlight TM01
- Astrolux removable 33140 Battery
- 2 spare O-rings
- Tripod Mount Screw
- Shoulder Strap
- Shoulder Strap Steel Ring
- Manual

Flashlight in use, Build Quality, and Warranty
In hand, this thing is massive and solid feeling. Reminds me of ye ole maglight with 3-C cells inside. The TM01 is slightly longer and heavier, but does have the same feel in hand. It is definitely a chonk of a light.
Made from Aerospace Aluminum Body, the TM01 is IPX6 rated waterproof & shockproof. There are some grooves milled into the head of the light for heat dissipation. The body itself is 6-sided and has alternating, large dimples or smooth face, cut outs that aid in grip. It is quite comfy actually.
There's a back-lit e-switch with a stainless bezel on the side that operates our TM01 to the fullest. It has a nice, tactile feel, allowing easy manipulation of those quick-clicks for instant feedback. The size of the TM01 will still allow pocket carry as it is still pretty slender considering the weight of the TM01 is where the carry challenge may lie. I've back-pocket carried it plenty without any problems, but you know it is there for sure.
The tailcap itself does have some flat spots that could aid in keeping it from rolling away, but I am afraid if there is any kind of angle, she's gone for sure. There is an abundance of thin, anodized threads here at the tailcap for plenty of twist for the cap.
There are also 2 o-rings here that help achieve that IPX6 water-rating. The base of the tail-cap has a quite large flat spot that will keep the TM01 upright for tailstanding needs. There is even a lanyard loop milled in here for alternate strap locations or lanyard attachment if you like.
Because of the size, Astrolux has included a couple of extras for ease of carry. To start, there is a tripod mount screw-hole opposite the power switch and the screw that goes in it. This screw has a hole for attaching the included shoulder strap. That's right, I said shoulder strap! Does YOUR flashlight have a shoulder strap? The TM01 does.
Then, there are a pair of steel wire wraps that attach to the lanyard-ring hole and aforementioned screw to give two solid points of attachment for said shoulder strap. I prefer this method of carry for this bad boy, since it is quite heavy.
All of the connections rotate freely so there is no binding of parts. For me its cross-shoulder strapped with the business end facing forward, giving quick access to the power switch, which is now on the bottom of the TM01, facing the ground.
Warranty information for Astrolux specifically is a little hard to find, but would fall under the “Warranty Guaranteed” terms at Banggood. Contact banggood for more specific information if you have any problems.
Standard returns policy applies: Full refund if returned within 7 days or full refund minus shipping if returned within 30 days, for any reason. Bangood has a 180 day warranty for quality issues.
Within the Instruction manual, the
“Warranty Service”
1 - Unconditional return in 15 days on product problems
2 - 12 months warranty
3 - Lifelong paid warranty
4 - If you have any problems, feel free to contact us for help, thank you.
Then it goes on to mention the normal, Warranty excluded if you have taken it apart or misused it or if the battery leaks, that’s on you!

LED/LEP/HID, Lens, Bezel, Reflector, and Beam
With no mention of kelvin scale (light temperature), we can only guess what it is supposed to be. We do know that this big ole TM01 is rocking a "SFT90X Hyper-Intensity LED" behind a tempered Glass (Anti-scratch) lens. That's a great start!
The Luminus SFT90X is a high-output, domeless LED designed for extreme brightness and long-range performance. Its domeless structure enhances collimation (the process of aligning the optical elements of an instrument to ensure they are in perfect mechanical and optical alignment, resulting in the best possible image), for maximum throw but demands strong thermal management and high-drain power sources.
With its large 9 × 9 mm footprint and flat-top die, it delivers a tightly focused beam ideal for thrower flashlights and searchlights like our TM01. Generally emitting a cool white (6000–6500K) light with low CRI, it prioritizes intensity over color accuracy. Our sample measures right at that, coming in just barely under the 6000k mark.
The beam itself has a pretty intense hotspot, but it is pretty small. It is a very thin, narrow circle beam that does appear bright-white to my eyes. The hotspot quickly fades to spill that is much lighter, but works well to illuminate everything up close. Beyond the edge of the beam is a single ring that doesn’t hinder any use.
Output temperature was hovering right at or just barely below the BBL, explaining that ever-so slightly blue tint that comes through on this cool, bright white tint. (A positive DUV “above” the curve, exhibits more of a green tint, whereas a negative DUV indicates that the source is “below” the Planckian locus (blackbody curve, aka BBL), potentially giving a red/ blue tint.)
A color temperature of 6000K is considered cool white or daylight white with a subtle blue tint. This type of light is excellent for scenarios requiring high visibility, enhanced contrast, and alertness, such as tactical & security applications, search & Rescue and even task lighting in workshops, garages etc.
The tempered glass lens rests behind a flat, stainless steel bezel giving added durability to our lumen tosser. Our SFT90X is perfectly centered down a smooth, deep reflector.

UI : User interface and driver
There is a lockout feature for our TM01 but it wasn’t locked when shipped. To activate, just press that e-switch 5 times real quick and the TM01 will flash twice to let ya know it is locked. Same motions for unlocking, press 5 quick clicks to get you out of lockout and the light will remain on in last used mode.
Operating the TM01 is very simple, a single press will turn the light on and off. Pressing and holding the button will start the ramping output. Generally it will try to go up in output before being able to go back down.
The ramping is a bit slow to start, but then ramps really fast. This actually makes it kind of hard to hit a specific output other than highest-ramp or lowest-ramp. There seems to only be a small window of opportunity on the ramp before hitting one extent or the other.
And while we’re talkin low, the low mode here is 200 lumens and runs forever. I wish it would go lower, but this seems more lumen-blastin, throwing work. Having said that, I find I am using that low setting the most anyway (when not looking way over there.)
The TM01 does have mode memory so it will come on in the last used mode every time. A good old double-tap will get you Turbo from anywhere and a triple-click will get you a super-bright strobe mode. That is all there is to it!

Additional/summary info on the UI:
- Ramping is a little slow to get started but then ramps really fast making it hard to hit that output you want (unless your desired output is all the way up or all the down). Then you will get a flash to know you made it to the end of that ramp.

Charging and batteries
Included with our lumen blaster is the Astrolux “33140” (15,000mAh) Li-ion Battery. You read that correctly, 15,000 mAh battery! This thing is huge, see photos of the battery in hand! It is bigger than other flashlights alone!
Charging the giant 33140 battery for the TM01 at 4.339v/2.803a/12.14w, it took 5 hours and 17 minutes to fill ‘er up all the way. I found this to be typical times give or take 5 minutes. Battery was drained to 2.9v consistently from runtime tests.

Performance test
Lumen measurements
How Lumens are Measured: Understanding ANSI FL1 Standards
About Lumen measurements: The ANSI FL1 standards specify that output in lumens should be measured 30 seconds after turning on, as this is the standardized time for measuring brightness according to the industry standard. This is why we focus on this part in our measurements. The ANSI FL1 standards require an ambient temperature of 22 ± 3°C. We record the ambient the ambient temperature to identify potential reasons for any observed discrepancies.
Lumen measurements were taken using my 50cm homemade integrating sphere (IS) and a REED R8100SD Data Logging Light Meter (with a measurement range up to 100,000 Lux). The IS has been calibrated using a 1lumen.com calibrated S2+ as a comparable reference source and the included, fully charged, Astrolux 33140 (15000mAh) Li-ion Battery.
| Mode | Specified output | Turn on | 30 sec. | 10 min. |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Low | 101 lm | 206 lm | 205 lm | 205 lm |
| High | n/a | 3,818 lm | 3,623 lm | 3,291 lm |
| Turbo | 6,500 lm | 4,224 lm | 3,908 lm | 3,257 lm |
*Turn-on and 30 second measurements are done manually, while the 10-minutes readings comes from the runtime graph. This is our standard approach, though some reviewers may choose a different approach.
Ambient temperature during testing:
- 20.5°C
Battery Life: Runtime graphs
How Runtimes are Measured: Understanding ANSI FL1 Standards
About ANSI FL1 runtime standards: The runtime is measured until the light drops to 10% of its initial output (30 seconds after turning on). This does not mean that the flashlight is not usable anymore. The last column shows how long the light actually works till it shuts off. If there is a + symbol, it means that the test was stopped at that particular point, but the light was actually still running. This happens on certain occasions, with certain drivers, firmware, or batteries.
Runtimes were measured using the REED R8100SD Data Logging Light Meter (with a measurement range up to 100,000 Lux) and the included, fully charged, Astrolux 33140 (15000mAh) Li-ion Battery.
| Mode | Specified runtime | Runtime (ANSI FL1) | Time till shut off* |
|---|---|---|---|
| Low | n/a | 44h 02min+ | 44h 02min+ |
| High | n/a | 1h 09min | 1h 09min |
| Turbo | 2min-4.5h | 1h 10min | 1h 10min |
*The last column reflects the total runtime until the light turns off. A "+" symbol indicates that the test was stopped at that point, but the light continued to run. This typically occurs with certain drivers, firmware, or battery types.
+ means it wanted to keep going. I realized after waiting a few days on the low runtime, that it was specified to run for 15 days! I couldn’t wait that long, sorry! Otherwise, runtimes were somewhat surprising to me. This giant battery ran well above 2000 lumens for almost the entirety of the higher runtimes, which is more than an hour! The bottom line is you have some time - yes!

Peak beam intensity and beam distance measurements
About Peak beam intensity: Understanding ANSI FL1 Standard
About peak beam intensity: The calculated value of distance in meters at which the flashlight produces a light intensity of 0.25 lux. (0.25 lux is about the brightness of a full moon shining on an object). This means that the intensity has decreased so much, it becomes difficult to see darker objects, or objects that don't reflect light. The columns ‘Meters’ and ‘Yards’ use rounded numbers.
Throw measurements were taken outdoors in complete darkness at 10 meters using a Dr. Meter LX1330B Digital Illuminance Light Meter, with a 0-200,000 measurement range for accurate lux readings, converted to candela. All measurements were taken at 30 seconds for most accurate measurements in accordance with ANSI measurement ratings.
| Mode | Specified intensity | Specified beam distance | Candela measured | Meters | Yards |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Low | n/a | n/a | 17,400 cd | 264 m | 289 yd |
| High | n/a | n/a | 341,000 cd | 1,168 m | 1,277 yd |
| Turbo | 520,000 cd | 1,442 m | 380,000 cd | 1,233 m | 1,348 yd |
Ambient temperature during testing:
- 18.3 °C
Our candela measurements were surprisingly short of the specified numbers given. The TM01 THROWS for sure, but measured to be more around 73% of what was claimed. (65% claimed lumen output - while I'm here) So, not the best compared to their numbers. Would it be better to just maybe not claim as much? It’s still impressive.

Beamshots
Beamshots were taken using a Canon EOS 4000D. Settings as follows:
- ISO 1600, 1/4sec., f/10, WB - “AWB ambience priority”
- Distance to fence is 28m
Beamshots of the following flashlights compared:
- Astrolux TM01
- Astrolux TM03
- Convoy L21A
- Convoy L8
- Fireflies E90 Blaze
Please note that the following beamshots are mainly intended to showcase the beam pattern and beam quality, rather than overall performance. These images are typically taken directly after activation, and in different seasons or weather conditions, and therefore do not fully represent its overall performance. In few cases the camera settings are even different and therefore not meant for performance comparisons. For accurate performance metrics, such as output, beam distance, and runtimes, you need to look at the performance section of this review.

Okay, okay let's wrap this up. All in all, the Astrolux TM01 is one beast of a flashlight, both in size and output. It’s clearly aimed at users (and of course myself) who want long-range performance and a solid build rather than compact convenience or playful features.
That Luminus SFT90X LED delivers a focused, high-intensity beam with serious throw, and while it didn’t quite reach the claimed 6,500 lumens or 1,442 meters in testing, the real-world performance is still very impressive. It is plenty bright and quite punchy for search, rescue, or large-area scanning. The sustained output is also better than expected, slowly falling from over 4000 lumens and maintaining over 3000 lumens for the first 35 minutes or 2,000 lumens plus, for well over an hour thanks to that massive Astrolux "33140" battery.
Build quality feels very robust, with nicely anodized aluminum, clean machining, and a reassuringly solid feel in hand. The inclusion of a tripod mount (hole) and shoulder strap system is actually quite practical given its heft. It's not a gimmick and works great and my preferred method of carry actually!
The onboard USB-C charging works well, even though it takes some time. (I won't say it's slow as it was really getting after it charging close to 14w/5v/3a on some of my fill-ups). Anyway, it is understandable to take a little bit for such a large 15000mAh cell to re-charge.
The user interface is simple but lacks good function. Mainly just the ramping speed, it could use some help, perhaps a little fine-tuning to make landing on mid-range adjustments easier. The lack of high-CRI options or auxiliary LEDs might turn off a few enthusiasts. But again, saying all of that, that’s not what this light is built for. You know what it is — it’s a thrower, pure and simple!
It falls short on star ratings due to its weight, ramping interface, and slightly optimistic claims on lumens and throw. Despite these minor issues, it is a highly capable, enjoyable long-range thrower and for those who enjoy powerful, long-throw flashlights. The TM01 stands out, maybe not for daily carry, but as a dedicated long-range searchlight, it absolutely earns its spot. (I'll carry it!)
